The Most Arbitrary Wizard

Chapter 257 - 139: Table of Truth (Middle)

Just as everyone was remarking that there seemed to be far more people at the Table of Truth this year than last, the air above the center of the field suddenly began to BUZZ.

A phantom, ethereal Magic Array resembling a clock face materialized from nothing. It rotated slowly, counterclockwise, causing the surrounding space to twist before being torn asunder to form a dark, deep Teleportation Gate.

Diana, clad in a silver gown, stepped out from the vortex. Her expression was cold and aloof as she looked down upon the field, instantly provoking a wave of astonished gasps and cries.

"The Saintess is here!"

"Oh my God! Her Highness the Saintess is so beautiful this year!"

"Am I seeing things? Her Highness the Saintess is actually wearing a gown!"

Anyone who had lived in the city for any length of time knew that the current Saintess, Her Highness Diana, was a cool character. She was noble and icily beautiful, and every time she appeared before the public, she was clad in Battle Armor, like a valiant female general in her prime.

But this time, Her Highness the Saintess had swapped her Battle Armor for a gown...

It wasn’t just the Wizards in the audience. Even the members of the Knight Order—who were responsible for maintaining order and were supposed to be closer to the Saintess and understand her best—stared with wide eyes.

They had followed Her Highness the Saintess for many years and never dreamed she would appear before them like this.

The Saintess was already breathtakingly beautiful in her Battle Armor. Add to that an evening gown designed to enhance a woman’s beauty...

It was simply to die for!

This wasn’t them seeing her through rose-colored glasses.

In everyone’s eyes, the Saintess had never been perfect—no one could be. Many compliments would contradict one another if applied to the same person; for instance, "icily beautiful" and "gentle," or "valiant" and "seductively charming." To put it simply, she lacked a certain feminine touch. However, Her Highness the Saintess was so exquisitely beautiful that even without this "femininity," she was utterly captivating.

But this silver evening gown supplied that very "feminine touch."

Compared to her previous "female general" persona, her current attire as an "ordinary young noblewoman" undoubtedly made her feel much more approachable.

If Her Highness the Saintess had once seemed unreachably lofty, now she seemed approachable.

Granted, her impeccably beautiful face was still expressionless and cold, so calling her "approachable" was perhaps an exaggeration. But the "demotion" from a female general to a young noblewoman already felt much more down-to-earth.

In short, the extreme contrast in her attire sent the Wizards in attendance into a frenzy.

"*Sob* Her Highness the Saintess, I really, truly want to be your dog this time... *Sob* WOOF!"

"Get lost! I was here first! My seat is even closer to the front than yours!"

"Wait, what year is it? People are actually fighting for the chance to be her dog? Well, if that’s the case..."

"Count me in!"

Some of the Wizards were seeing the Saintess for the first time today.

Teacher Tony and his companions, for example.

Kave and Johnson stared, their eyes practically glued to her. ’No wonder Elise said the Saintess isn’t photogenic...’

"Damn, how can a woman this beautiful even exist?"

They said every Saintess from the Church Court was a peerless beauty of her generation, and now that they saw her...

’Why am I suddenly a little envious of Mr. Blake?’

Only Sean, tucked away in a corner, was complaining to himself.

’I remember the history books back home—the ones this Saintess had a hand in promoting—said *he* was suspected of practicing some kind of Charm Art. But look at this scene. Every man here has fallen for the Saintess at ’first sight,’ and even a lot of the girls look completely smitten. So... who’s the one really practicing Charm Art here?’

’Also, why does this gown look so familiar? I feel like I’ve seen it somewhere before.’

As Sean watched the Saintess, she also noticed him.

As a Tier Ten, it was a simple matter for Diana to locate a single person in the field.

However, she didn’t look toward Sean. It wasn’t the right time.

’Business first.’

If even Sean’s subtle gaze couldn’t escape her notice, then the loud chatter from the audience certainly couldn’t. All the comments praising her beauty, vowing to be her dog, and the like—Diana heard it all.

But none of it particularly moved her.

She was long used to it.

Every time she came to Black Rose Castle, some people were bound to lose their minds.

In truth, she hadn’t cultivated any so-called Charm Art, and neither had Carl Black back in the day. They were simply very good-looking.

Diana ignored the crowd’s "mad ramblings" and raised her hands, using her Magic Power to once again condense a swirling Magic Array.

Seeing her begin the Casting, the field finally grew a bit quieter.

The next second, the ground began to tremble violently. Those who hadn’t been watching Diana’s movements thought an earthquake had struck.

A massive ring burst from the earth like a bamboo shoot after a spring rain. The participating Wizards, including Tony, who were standing almost in the very center of the ring and at the heart of the Magic, nearly lost their balance.

This was the Power of a Tier Ten. A single, casual spell was enough to make a Low-tier Wizard’s heart leap into their throat.

Fortunately, this Magic was not aimed at them.

The ring rose straight from the ground to halt at Diana’s feet. As the Array in her hands spun, the ring began to rotate as well. A golden curtain of light then spread from the outer edge inward, rapidly filling the empty space within the circle.

When the golden light dissipated, an enormous round table appeared before their eyes.

Diana shattered the Magic Array. With a flick of her hand, the resulting motes of light scattered and drifted around the table, coalescing into chairs—

This was the Table of Truth.

"Her Highness the Saintess is so powerful!"

"No matter how many times I see it, it’s still unbelievable."
