In truth, this was a very simple form of Magic: using Magic Power to materialize an object. It was a basic skill that every Wizard was expected to master. The difficulty, however, lay in the sheer size of this round table. It could seat over a thousand people, and the amount of Magic Power required for such a feat was unimaginable.
This proved the old saying: the simpler the Magic, the greater the test of a Wizard’s skill.
And from Diana’s recent actions, it was clear she had performed it with ease.
Their Highness the Saintess was not only beautiful, but also immensely powerful.
This effortless display was as graceful as scattering someone else’s ashes.
The appearance of the table marked the official start of this "academic discussion."
Diana landed at the head of the table.
Below, Catherine used her Magic Power to project her voice throughout the entire venue.
"Everyone, please find your designated seats."
The round table was in the sky, and there were no stairs, but this was obviously not a problem for Mages who possessed Magic Power.
One Old Wizard said excitedly, "Her Highness the Saintess is so beautifully dressed today. There must be a special reason for it."
"I hear Her Highness the Saintess has always been single?"
"Hehe, in this old man’s opinion, this Table of Truth is probably not just about the table!"
On the surface, the Table of Truth was an academic discussion, or a competition for Cultivation resources. But in essence, it was a selection for true geniuses.
"Think about it. In past years, haven’t the Wizards who performed exceptionally at the Table of Truth always received a private audience with Her Highness the Saintess and a personal invitation to join the Knight Order?"
"That part shouldn’t change this year."
At first glance, it didn’t seem any different. But don’t forget, today Her Highness the Saintess was wearing an evening gown.
What did that mean?
It meant that Her Highness the Saintess no longer saw the Table of Truth as mere official business. Who wears an evening gown to meet with subordinates?
There’s a saying, "A woman adorns herself for the one who delights in her." Perhaps Her Highness the Saintess was planning to use the Table of Truth as an opportunity for something like a contest to win her hand in marriage!
Of course, Her Highness the Saintess couldn’t be so casual. Even if she had such intentions, it wouldn’t happen so quickly. There would undoubtedly be other trials involved. But that was all for later. The important thing was today—
Based on past years, the Table of Truth would last until evening. The final victor might even have the chance to dine with Her Highness the Saintess. Add a few candles to the table, and the atmosphere... ahem.
"In your dreams!"
Tony cursed, "How old are you, you old coot? And you still want to have dinner with Her Highness the Saintess?"
"Pah! Shameless!"
Whether the guess was right or not, even if it was, what did it have to do with an old geezer who already had one foot in the grave?
Opportunities were for the young.
And he was in the prime of his life!
"The person Her Highness the Saintess summons today will be me, and no one else! You can go home and hug your grandchildren!"
Tony snorted, cast a Wind Spell with a flick of his hand, and lifted himself straight toward the round table.
The Old Wizard: "?"
’Damn it!’
’Young people these days have no manners.’
’And how am I old?’
’I’m only in my thirties! I just happen to enjoy writing novels!’
Seeing Tony race toward the round table, the other Wizards, not to be outdone, used Magic to surge into the sky.
Instantly, great winds stirred in the venue as all sorts of Magic appeared one after another.
There were those like Tony who used Wind Magic, those who used Summoning Art to conjure flying mounts, and those who used Flame Magic to blast themselves into the sky. Some even materialized wings of Magic Power, their auras terrifyingly powerful.
This sent Kave into a panic.
He was quite good at fighting, but he really couldn’t fly.
Well, not completely unable.
It was mainly that he rarely needed to. If he had to, he’d use a broom. Having not flown on his own for a long time, Kave had gotten rusty. On top of that, with so many people around, the heated atmosphere, and the Saintess watching, he got nervous and completely forgot the Spell he barely knew in the first place...
"Don’t worry, I’ll help you," Johnson said. "Here, bend over."
Kave: "Huh?"
Johnson flew up and kicked Kave’s ass like he was shooting a soccer ball, sending him straight to the round table.
The hairstyle Kave had just gotten this morning was thrown into disarray mid-air.
"FUCK!"
Soon, all one thousand-plus Wizards had taken their seats.
This once again demonstrated the power of Her Highness the Saintess.
The number of seats was perfect—not one more, not one less.
The only empty row was for the judges.
There was one more seat than last year, but no one would dare question whether Her Highness the Saintess had misremembered. They would only wonder if there was an extra "examiner" this year.
"I’m afraid this year’s Table of Truth will be even harder than last year’s..."
The first stage of the Table of Truth was a "written test."
One more examiner meant several more questions, and since each examiner had a different style, it would indirectly increase the test’s difficulty.
"What’s there to be afraid of?" Tony said, full of confidence. "True gold fears no fire, and the core principles remain unchanged."
As long as one’s understanding of the Truth Technique was thorough enough, any question could be solved with ease.
’A new examiner is even better. It’s a greater chance to prove my strength.’
’I already got an A+ from the strict Mr. Scholar last time. This time, I’ll conquer this new examiner as well!’
’It’s just a shame Sean isn’t here.’
’There’s no one to witness my stunning performance today.’
’Ah, life... it truly is as lonely as snow... sigh...’
Ryan: "..."
If nothing else, he noticed that this guy Tony really loved to string together random proverbs.
"Alright, silence."
Catherine spoke up, silencing the crowd’s chatter.
The examinees had all arrived. Next up were the examiners.
As a grand academic event, the Table of Truth was naturally not without its sense of ceremony. Catherine would introduce each Judge by name.
The first few were the same as last year, with no changes.
Chief Judge "the Scholar" Laelando, Vice-Judge "the Lady" Fesilina, Vice-Judge "the Poet" Lembach, Vice-Judge "the Paper Pianist" Cheerva... and so on.
"And today’s specially invited Honorary Judge, Sean... Wait a minute!"
"Sean...?"
Even Catherine herself paused for a moment as she read the name.
She had only received the list just before the event. ’Did I remember wrong?’
She remembered there was a man named Sean among the newcomers they had "captured" last month.
Because of Sean’s looks, and the "Hey!" he’d called out as she left the church, Catherine’s impression of the man was quite deep. He was indeed handsome, but the Table of Truth was about academics, not a beauty pageant. How could Sean have become a Judge?
’Could it be someone else with the same name?’
Meanwhile, when Tony and the others heard Sean’s name, they too looked at each other in confusion, wondering if they had misheard.
In the audience, Elise even rubbed her ears and asked Eleanor beside her, "Sister, did you hear that?"
"Did Lady Catherine just say Sean’s name...?"
Eleanor: "..."
She heard it.
But she was very unsure.
And it was even more unreasonable.
She felt that either both she and Elise were "thinking about" Sean so much they were hearing things, or Lady Catherine had misspoken. After all, Sean was just like them, a newcomer who had only entered the city last month. There was no way he could have become some Honorary Judge.
But sometimes, things were just that magical.
Under the gazes of the hundreds of thousands of Wizards present, a man in a suit with hair slicked back shinier than his leather shoes walked out from a corner. He didn’t use Magic to launch himself to the round table like the other Wizards. Instead, he pieced together countless golden characters to form a golden carpet.
He raised his left arm slightly, bending his hand before his chest, while his other arm hung naturally at his side. He smiled and nodded to the crowd in acknowledgment.
He exuded an air of calm elegance.
The venue immediately erupted in gasps of astonishment.
"Holy crap, he’s so young?!"
Look at the judges who were already seated—all of them were old geezers, led by Laelando. Even the relatively youngest, Lady Fesilina, had wrinkles and an aged look that her noble makeup couldn’t hide. In contrast, Sean looked to be in his early twenties at a glance. Compared to Laelando and the others, he was practically a child. How could someone his age become an Honorary Judge??
"Not only is he young, he’s handsome as hell!"
The one who said that was a Male Wizard. As for the Female Wizards, even more so; many of the girls’ eyes were sparkling.
They didn’t know Sean was a newcomer who had just arrived this year. All they knew was that this man was so rude, trespassing into their hearts upon their very first meeting.
At the head seat, Diana watched Sean slowly approach, the corners of her lips curling up slightly.
’He’s still the same as ever,’ she thought, ’always using the Truth Technique to build bridges in any situation.’
"Your Highness the Saintess, this..."
Catherine turned to look at her, momentarily confused about the situation.
Diana wiped the smile from her lips and said coolly, "That’s right. It’s him."
The name on the list of Judges was correct.
And she hadn’t misidentified him.
But Tony, sitting in his seat, stared with wide eyes.
’This has to be a joke, right?’
’It must be a joke!’
’How could this year’s specially invited Honorary Judge be Sean... *the* Sean he knew??’
Kave, on the other hand, just went "SMACK" and slapped Johnson across the face.
Johnson, clutching his face: "?"
"Tell me I’m not dreaming."
