"Where'd he go?"
"Where'd the old guy go?"
"He couldn't have been slapped into ash, could he…?"
Seeing the figure in the center of the round table vanish, the Wizards in the audience couldn't help but gasp.
They had seen the Male Wizard use the Third Law Ring with their own eyes, yet that one slap seemed to have shattered both the Tier Seven ring and the man himself…
The people who'd believed Elise's nonsense now looked at the young woman, their hearts hammering.
"You call that Tier Three??"
Elise: "…"
'But he really is Tier Three!'
'She was a Tier Six, for crying out loud, and she'd met Sean before. How could she not tell what his level was?'
'Besides, wasn't this something "everyone" already knew?'
Whether it was her sister Eleanor, Teacher Tony, Kave, or the others, they all knew Sean's Tier perfectly well.
But for that very reason, Elise's eyes widened in shock as well.
'How could a Tier Three possibly kill a Grand Mage with a single slap??'
In truth, however, it wasn't quite that dramatic.
They were his own people. Why would Sean use lethal force?
Every Wizard willing to remain was one of the Holy Sanctuary's most precious assets now, to say nothing of the exceedingly rare Grand Mages.
From a high enough vantage point, one could look down through the man-shaped hole in the center of the round table. Below, on the ground, was a matching crater. And in that crater lay the Male Wizard, slapped into a wretched, dust-covered state, his body splayed awkwardly and embedded in the earth.
He looked as if he'd been struck by lightning and scorched, covered head to toe in filth, his face a mess of grime. He finally managed to gasp for a difficult breath, and the air he exhaled was a cloud of dust.
"So… so strong…"
He mumbled, staring blankly up at the round table in the sky.
A second ago, he had still harbored doubts about Sean's true power. He'd thought Sean merely had a superior understanding of the Truth Technique; when it came to an actual fight, ten Seans wouldn't have been his match.
But now, a second later, the Male Wizard understood one simple truth.
'Some people's Power can't be judged by their Tier alone.'
'A Judge will always be a Judge, and your teacher will always be your teacher.'
So, the Male Wizard wasn't actually dead.
He had simply been slapped into the dirt by Sean.
It was a minor punishment, meant to assert his authority as a teacher.
Even so, in the eyes of the other Wizards, this was still utterly mind-boggling.
Whether the Male Wizard was dead or not, one thing wouldn't change—
Teacher Sean was only a Tier Three!
It was common knowledge that the higher the Tiers, the harder it was to fight someone of a higher rank. The gap between each Tier grew exponentially larger the further one progressed.
Yet Sean hadn't just punched up a Tier—he'd jumped four of them at once. And that included Tier Seven, known as the most difficult threshold in a Wizard's life, a rank that was supposed to be impossible for any Low-tier Wizard to defeat…
If they hadn't seen it with their own eyes, they would never have believed it.
Thus, after a brief silence, the audience erupted in a wave of excited cheers.
"Teacher Sean, you're so cool!"
"Teach me, Teacher Sean! I'm a Tier Three too, and I want to beat up a Grand Mage!"
"I declare, from this day forward, Teacher Sean is the only teacher I acknowledge! As for that Mr. Scholar, he can go take a hike!"
Laelando: "?"
'How did I get dragged into this?'
Another Wizard seemed to have a lightbulb flash on above his head.
"Guys, I get it now!"
"Do you guys remember that problem from before?"
"3=8!"
"To wield the might of a Tier Eight as a Tier Three—that's the real meaning of the equation!"
"This is the true Truth Technique!"
Sean: "Oh?"
'Who is this guy?'
'Figuring out the true nature of 3=8 that quickly… not bad.'
'As for all the praise about him being cool…'
'Isn't that obvious?'
Facing the crowd's enthusiasm, Sean held up a hand to quiet them. "Alright, alright, it's no big deal. This is just a basic application of the Truth Technique. No need to get so excited. Everyone, sit down, sit down."
Catherine, Laelando, and the others: "…"
'Why does it feel like this kid is just showing off?'
But that was unfair to Sean.
He really wasn't.
Otherwise, the Male Wizard would have faced something far worse than a simple slap.
After borrowing the Power of numerous Wizards and Her Highness the Saintess, his Magic Power had surpassed Tier Seven and was approaching Tier Nine. He had countless flashy and powerful Techniques at his disposal. Picking any one of them would have been enough to blow these youngsters' minds—the ship that never makes port, for instance, or the Mobius Ring…
Sean just didn't think it was necessary.
Besides, everyone's foundations weren't solid yet. If they saw too many High-tier Techniques, they might grow to despise Low-tier Techniques. That would lead them to aim too high too fast, which would be counterproductive—it would go against the entire purpose of the "open class" he was teaching today.
In short, the man who was once Carl Black may not have been a good husband, but he was certainly a good teacher.
Besides, the exam wasn't over yet.
He wasn't the star of today's show; he shouldn't steal the examinees' thunder.
That was what Sean thought. So, he lightly dusted off his sleeves, elegantly picked up the fruit juice on the table, and took a small sip as if it were Champagne. "Come," he said, "let's continue the exam."
But after speaking, he suddenly recalled something.
He added, "I seem to recall someone else wanted to have a go…"
As he spoke, he glanced over at Tony, a wry smile on his face as he asked:
"So, what do you say, Teacher Tony?"
"Do you want to experience 3=8 too?"
The audience, which had just fallen silent, erupted once more.
"What?"
"Someone else is questioning Teacher Sean's authority?"
"Alright, alright! This year's round table is getting good! Hey, Tony, my man, I'm betting on you! Get up there!"
"Take down Teacher Sean and you'll be the next teacher!"
"Go, go, go!"
Tony: "???"
