His body, propelled by Diana's Tier Ten Magic Power, plummeted swiftly off the cliff.
The boundless darkness swallowed him in an instant, like a black hole. His vision blurred, and Diana's figure on the cliff grew smaller and more distant.
Sean's final image of this New World journey was of Diana. Even as he plunged into the abyss, completely enveloped by darkness, his mind was still filled with her exquisitely beautiful and frigidly cold face.
Apparently, there are many ways to make a man remember you.
It doesn't always have to be through a fiery confession of love.
"Killing" him worked, too.
'I'm done for...'
As he continued to plummet, the icy air scraping painfully against his face, a chill filled Sean's heart.
He always said he had many lives and wasn't afraid to die, but people are like that—they talk tough. Now that the moment had truly arrived, being pushed off a cliff by his own wife, Sean felt utterly uncertain.
Not only had Diana given him a send-off, but she seemed to have also casually sealed his Magic Power, leaving him unable to take any effective action in his current predicament. He couldn't even change his posture to avoid landing face-first.
The abyss was frigid.
So cold, Sean felt his body was about to freeze stiff.
Surrounded by pitch darkness, he didn't know how far he had fallen or when he would land. The feeling was like being a prisoner on death row with a guillotine hanging overhead; those few seconds waiting for the blade to drop were the longest and most agonizing.
Sean didn't dare to imagine what state he'd be in after the impact.
He was only a Tier Three!
And he couldn't use Magic Power.
Death was certain. It was just a question of whether he'd be splattered into a paste or a pulp.
「A minute later.」
The excruciating pain he expected never came.
Just as Sean gritted his teeth, vowing to make Diana pay the next time they met, a strange sense of weightlessness suddenly struck him.
Normally, an object in freefall continuously accelerates. But this sudden sense of weightlessness made Sean feel as if his body had become lighter. The wind scraping his face wasn't as painful, and he seemed to be slowing down.
Slowly, a faint light appeared before him.
In the light from this unknown source, Sean discovered his body had become transparent, like a Ghost.
Before he could dwell on it, the sense of weightlessness intensified dramatically. It was as if two enormous, invisible hands were pulling him apart from his head and heels, making Sean dizzy. The 'hand' at his head seemed to win, and his body began to fall uncontrollably again... No, it was more like he was "rising."
As gravity pulled at him, the scene before Sean's eyes and his own perceptions seemed to flip upside down.
A person usually judges whether they are flying up or falling down based on bodily sensation, which in turn is determined by gravity. Sean was sure the direction of his body's fall hadn't changed, but his physical sensation had shifted from falling to rising, as if he were ascending to the heavens.
And he did indeed "ascend to the heavens."
In a dizzying spin, Sean's translucent body "shot" out from beneath the cliff. The intense Sunshine stung his eyes, forcing him to squint. At that moment, he felt as if a rope were tied around him, hauling him up from the abyss. But just pulling him up wasn't enough; the rope kept pulling, dragging his body rapidly backward.
In the process, Sean finally rediscovered a familiar, tangible sensation.
As the invisible rope pulled him backward, he saw the flag planted on the cliff. He saw the path he, Sopea, and the others had first taken to find World's End. He saw the impossibly steep cliff faces, and he saw the town closest to World's End, the one where they had made their stop...
Sean was pulled from the cliff all the way back to the town, through its bustling streets, and finally into the hotel.
He even saw himself lying on the bed, as well as Elvire keeping watch by his side, who seemed to have been awake for some time.
But neither the people on the street nor Elvire could see him.
His translucent body symbolized 'weakness.' He was now just a weak Soul Reflection, unable to affect this world in any way.
Until he plunged into his own body.
Soul returned to body.
WHOOSH!
Sean shot up in bed.
'He knew where the New World was!'
His sudden, corpse-like movement jolted the drowsy Elvire wide awake.
She nearly jumped out of her skin, instinctively recoiling. The stool beneath her scraped across the floor with a loud SCREECH.
"You're awake??"
Beyond her fright, Elvire's expression quickly turned to one of delight.
"How long was I asleep?" Sean asked.
"A month," Elvire replied, then added, "To be precise, you slept a month longer than I did."
The flow of time in the New World was, indeed, the same as in the Real World.
She had tried many ways to wake Sean: shaking his arm, pinching his face, tracing her fingertip along the sole of his foot... But no matter what she tried, Sean remained unresponsive. Elvire hadn't dared to use too much force; forcibly interrupting his Meditation could have caused him mental trauma.
So, all she could do was wait by Sean's side, and that wait had lasted a whole month.
The only thing she could do in that time was carry Sean from the sofa to the bed to let him "sleep" more comfortably.
