The Most Arbitrary Wizard

Chapter 301 153: "Lady of the House

"The Master does as he pleases. Why should he explain anything to you?"

"If you're rude to the Master again, don't blame me for being impolite in return!"

Elvire: "?"

Sean: "???"

'Seriously, how dare you say that?!'

'Are these two girls here to help me or to screw me over?'

Seeing that Elvire was about to erupt, Sean quickly grabbed her hand. He turned back, feigning anger, and said to Elise, "Stop messing around. I'm grateful that you and Eleanor showed up in time to save our lives, but jokes have their limits! Do you really want me to be in the doghouse tonight?"

Elise, seeing that he still didn't believe her, looked aggrieved. "Master, we're not joking."

Sean: "Then tell me, how did you and your sister end up as my maids?"

Elise pouted and explained, "Master, have you forgotten? That night, you and Her Highness the Saintess…"

Sean's eyes shot open. "Stop!"

'Better not to explain.'

'That'll only make things worse.'

But Elvire had already caught a certain keyword. She narrowed her eyes at Sean. "This has something to do with the Saintess?"

Sean coughed twice. "It's a long story…"

Elvire cut him off. "Then make it short."

Sean: "…"

'There's no short version.'

'I can't possibly make something up this fast!'

So Sean thought for a moment, then said, "Well, I feel that instead of a poorly-told short version, it's better to say nothing at all. Rather than a vague description, let's just leave it to the imagination. What do you think?"

Elvire: "?"

'Are you trying to write a novel here?'

Before she could ask again, Sean burst out laughing and changed the subject. "See? I told you Elise and Eleanor are my friends. Everyone, just relax. Let's clean up the battlefield and secure this ship first, what do you say?"

Sopea, of course, sided with Sean. He immediately agreed, "Alright. It's getting late, and we still need to go deal with the Witch Hunters who haven't returned. We should hurry so they don't sense something is wrong and escape."

Elise, on the other hand, sided with Elvire. Recovering from her shock, she shot Sean a meaningful smile. "We're not the ones who are nervous now, Mr. Author. It seems the one who should be nervous is you."

Sean put up a tough front. "What do I have to be nervous about?"

"The three of us have a perfectly innocent and clean relationship. Even as Master and Maids, it's a respectable arrangement, understand?"

Everyone: "…"

'The three of them have a "clean and innocent" relationship...'

'Why did that sound so strange?'

Elvire sneered. "So you admit they're your maids?"

Sean's voice immediately lost its bravado. "I told you, it was just a joke…"

Elise staunchly defended her status. "It's not a joke, Master."

Sean: "?"

'Damn it, you're getting addicted to calling me that, aren't you?'

He actually had a good idea of what was going on. 'Couldn't you just keep your mouth shut for once?'

'Do you really want to be my maid that badly??'

Feeling Elvire's grip on his hand tighten, Sean knew he had to explain himself, or his sister-in-law was going to get seriously angry. He couldn't bluff his way out of this one. And he couldn't bring up Olivia, because that would be admitting he was that scumbag brother-in-law… 'Come to think of it,' Sean thought, 'I'm actually pretty lucky. The Eleanor Sisters are only calling me 'Master.' If they'd called me 'Mr. Blake,' I'd be toast.'

Since both paths were blocked, Sean had to find another way. He steeled himself—

'So you like calling me Master, huh?'

'Fine.'

'Then I'll be your Master.'

'But you don't just have one master!'

Sean adopted a scolding tone, pointing at Elvire as he spoke to Elise. "Do you know who she is?"

Elise: "Hm?"

Sean: "If I am your Master, then she—Miss Elvire—is your Lady of the House!"

"Understand?"

Elise: "?"

Eleanor: "??"

Elvire: "???"

'No... wait!'

'She wanted Sean to explain why he was the Master of a pair of beautiful, twin Grand Mages, not for him to introduce her! Besides…'

"Who said I wanted to be the Lady of the House!"

'How could I ever show my face again after he said that in front of everyone??'

Flustered and annoyed, Elvire shook off Sean's hand. "I can't be bothered with you! Go on, go with your maids!"

With that, she turned and stormed off, feigning anger as she returned to the ship.

Everyone: "…"

Elise was speechless for a moment. 'You would have been better off just going along with it,' she thought. 'You could have explained later that you were just playing along to save Sean some face.'

'Now you've gone and worn your heart on your sleeve. If you try to claim there's nothing going on with Sean in the future, no one's going to believe you.'

Kate, meanwhile, secretly gave Sean a thumbs-up.

'The atmosphere had been so tense, he'd thought Sean was a dead man for sure. But he never expected the guy to solve the problem with a single sentence by making her flustered... Brilliant!'

'Truly brilliant!'

'That kid must have pulled this kind of stunt plenty of times before.'

Watching Elvire's retreating figure, Sean let out a long sigh of relief.

'Finally managed to pacify my sister-in-law.'

But he knew this was only a temporary reprieve.

He would have to explain to Elvire sooner or later where the Eleanor Sisters came from and why they called him Master.

Knowing her earnest nature, this matter wouldn't be dropped so easily.

The good news was, he had finally bought himself some time.

Once he got the full story from the Eleanor Sisters, he could use his professional skills to weave a good tale. It shouldn't be too much of a problem.

"Alright, alright, everyone get back to what you were doing."

Sean shooed the crowd away, not about to let them enjoy his predicament any longer. He added a reminder, "Be careful not to kill the wrong people."

Eleanor asked cautiously, "Master, perhaps Elise and I should go instead?"
