’Meet Daeli?’
At these words, Sean’s heart lurched.
’No, no... Absolutely not!’
’Although he missed Elvire’s sister too, now was not the time.’
’How does that saying go again?’
’If love is true, it need not be together day and night, right?’
Sean had no idea why Elvire suddenly wanted to take him to the Blazing Angel Family. He could only hide his nervousness and feign surprise, asking the young woman, "Why would I go meet your sister?"
Elvire, however, felt he was playing dumb. She glared at him. "You tell me."
’Actually, it should have been to meet our parents.’
It was just that her and her sister’s parents hadn’t lived to see the day the Reshaping Technique was developed. Their souls had returned to the ocean, their memories washed clean. In their next lives, they would be two entirely new people. Even if the sisters found them, they would never remember having had them as daughters.
’As for their parents in this life...’
’All the more reason not to drag them down.’
They were ordinary people, and the world of Wizards was another world entirely. To be swept up in the Empire’s war—a war destined to one day become a river of blood—would mean throwing their lives away for nothing. Elvire was grateful to the parents who had given her life and a body in this lifetime. But for that very reason, she could not bear to see them harmed because of her. It was a selfish, even cruel, decision, but she had no other choice.
Daeli had done the same.
When they awakened their memories and Magic Power and decided to leave home, they erased all memories of themselves from their parents’ minds, leaving behind a large sum of money—enough for them to live comfortably for the rest of their lives.
Daeli had been heartbroken to leave.
But it was the best way to handle the situation.
She didn’t want to see her parents die.
Nor did she want to have a weakness.
So, in this life, Daeli and Elvire "had no" parents. They only had each other.
Although they were separated by a great distance—one in the "New World," the other on a farm—and could hardly be said to be relying on each other for survival, the sisters’ bond hadn’t changed. With no parents to visit, her sister was the only one left.
Sean understood all of this.
But he strongly disagreed!
"I think it’s too soon, Eli," he said with a serious expression.
"You think I want to rush things?" Elvire scoffed. "It’s all because your Tier is too low."
The Blazing Angel Family was no small house like Florist. At Sean’s age and Tier, he couldn’t even compare to the most ordinary members of her family, let alone her. Still Tier Three in his twenties? Back in the days of the Holy Sanctuary, he would’ve been kicked out in a heartbeat.
Elvire herself knew Sean’s Tier was only so low because he had awakened recently. In fact, his cultivation speed was even faster than hers. But what good was it if she was the only one who knew? Other people wouldn’t care about such details; they would only see Sean’s current Tier. Those people, with eyes only for Magic Power, would mercilessly mock their own siblings—to say nothing of an "outsider" like Sean.
After listening to all this, Sean said, disgruntled, "So basically, you’re taking me back home just to watch me be humiliated?"
Elvire rolled her eyes. "If I wanted to watch you make a fool of yourself, would I need to take you home to do it?"
’All I’d have to do is challenge him to a "friendly" sparring match. He wouldn’t be so smug then, would he?’
Sean: "?"
’What does that mean?’
"So what if you’re a high Tier? Is that supposed to be impressive?"
"Sorry, but being a high Tier *is* impressive." Elvire lifted her chin proudly. "And another thing, you’re not allowed to call me Eli."
’It’s my pet name, and our relationship hasn’t reached that level yet.’
’The guy hasn’t even confessed his feelings for me; he doesn’t get special privileges. Hmph.’
Sean seized on her words and threw up his hands. "See? You think it’s too soon yourself, don’t you?"
’She won’t even let me use her pet name, yet she wants me to meet her family?’
"That’s different," Elvire said. "You have to get my sister’s approval first."
From the Blazing Angel Family’s perspective, as the current young lady of the house, her boyfriend had to be exceptional—at least enough to silence any detractors. If her sister decided Sean wasn’t good enough, things between them would become fraught with difficulty. They would face pressure from all sides. If they couldn’t be together in the end, it would be better for everyone if they never started at all.
Although her sister wasn’t one to place much importance on Talent or looks, and she planned to tell her about Sean’s rapid cultivation speed, it was always better to be safe than sorry. She had to be prepared.
From a personal standpoint, however, Elvire believed Sean would do her proud. It didn’t matter if he was mocked, as long as he could put them back in their place later.
As one of the very few Duke Families in the Empire, the Blazing Angel Family had no shortage of resources. If Sean came home with her, she could use her status as the young lady of the house to requisition cultivation resources for him. Although he was limited by his soul and could never become a Grand Mage, breaking through to Tier Five and Tier Six would still be a breeze.
This was what Elvire truly wanted to do.
Of course, if Sean managed to win her sister’s approval on the first try, that would be even better.
"No, no, no. This is bad, very bad." Sean broke out in a cold sweat just listening to her.
He was sure he could pass the test of whether he was worthy of being Elvire’s boyfriend.
But whether he would still be alive *after* passing... that was another matter entirely.
Elvire frowned in displeasure. "What, are you unwilling?"
’Is this guy rejecting me?’
"No, no, that’s not it either," Sean said hurriedly, explaining with a straight face, "Miss Flame Crow, deep down, I really do want to go back with you. After all, a future brother-in-law has to meet the family eventually... And I can feel how good you are to me. But it’s for that very reason that I can’t go back with you."
