The Most Arbitrary Wizard

Chapter 309 - 155: The Next Step

’What’s this about the ugly brother-in-law having to meet the sister...’

Elvire’s cheeks flushed as she grumbled inwardly. ’That sounds so harsh, and it’s not even true.’

’First of all, Sean isn’t ugly—far from it, he’s actually very handsome.’

’Second, Sean is not my "brother-in-law."’

’Getting past my sister is just the beginning. Sean still has a long way to go if he wants to win me over!’

Sean continued, "Think about it, Miss Flame Crow. If my Cultivation progresses quickly because I used resources from your Blazing Angel Family, what would your family members think?"

"They wouldn’t think my Talent is good. They’d just see me as a pretty boy who only got this far by riding your coattails."

"They’d look down on me even more."

"They might even start gossiping about you."

"So, even for your sake, I can’t go back with you," Sean said, his expression firm. "I’m not afraid of losing face, and I don’t care what other people think of me. But I do care what they think of you, and what *you* think of me... Miss Flame Crow, I hope you understand. It doesn’t matter what anyone else says. You’re what’s most important to me."

Elvire: "..."

’Is this a confession?’

At the side, Elise’s teasing gaze made Elvire’s cheeks burn. She turned her head away and huffed, "Cut it out. Sweet talk doesn’t work on me. I’m not falling for that."

Elise blinked. "Is that so? Because it looks to me like you’re eating it right up."

Elvire: "?"

"Shut up, Elise!"

"Alright, Miss Flame Crow."

Sean cleared his throat and said, "In any case, Miss Flame Crow, please believe that I can reach Tier Six through my own Cultivation."

Elvire pursed her lips, folding her arms as she stared at the man before her.

’I didn’t expect this guy to have some backbone.’

’But backbone or not, the fact remained that Sean had still rejected her.’

Elvire, trying to read Sean’s mind, asked, "Tell me, do you really not want to rely on others, or do you simply not want to come home with me?"

The former would mean he truly had integrity.

The latter would be the act of a scumbag.

He might be afraid that after meeting her sister, he wouldn’t be able to break up with her.

Men were all fickle, especially the handsome ones. Her own brother-in-law, Carl Black, had personally proven that to her, so Elvire couldn’t help but consider all possibilities.

Sean, however, thought she’d seen through him and hastily promised, "Of course it’s the former!"

"Miss Flame Crow, rest assured, as soon as my Cultivation reaches Tier Six, I will definitely go home with you to meet your sister!"

Sean’s tone was exceptionally earnest, but inwardly he was grinding his teeth, as if making some monumental decision.

’If I don’t say this, Elvire will probably get suspicious for real. The only option is to delay as long as possible.’

’Just trying to survive another day.’

"Really?" Elvire asked.

Sean nodded. "Really!"

"That’s more like it." Elvire huffed, finally dropping the subject. "But you should still take the notebook back. Look it over when you have time and try to make it a habit. It’s better than cramming at the last minute."

Sean: "Alright."

"Alright, you can go now. I’m going to rest." Elvire waved her hand dismissively. She looked just like Sean had when he left the Eleanor Sisters’ room, except he was the one leaving after business was concluded, while she was the one kicking someone out.

"Take care, Mr. Writer. I won’t see you out," Elise said with a grin.

’She’d certainly had her fill of juicy gossip tonight. So many little secrets revealed.’

Sean shot her an annoyed glare, a look that said he wouldn’t forget her little bombshell. Sooner or later, he’d get her back!

Elvire suddenly spoke up again. "Oh, and remember what you said at the beginning."

’The Eleanor Sisters are proper Maids.’

’If she found out he was doing anything improper with them, hmph...’

’He’d be in for it!’

And so, after leaving Elvire’s room, Sean went to the Eleanor Sisters’ room.

"Huh?"

"Master, why is your back all wet?"

"Is it raining outside?" Elise asked, glancing out the window.

’It doesn’t look like it’s raining, though.’

Sean snapped, "Don’t ask! Just draw me another bath!"

...

「The next morning.」

When Sean woke up, the first thing he saw was a steaming glass of milk and a sandwich on his nightstand.

In the living room outside his bedroom, Eleanor was cleaning while Elise was polishing his shoes.

Last night, after his second bath, Sean had gone back to his own room to sleep. He remembered locking the door, but the Eleanor Sisters had somehow gotten a spare key card and slipped in to start their work.

Seeing Sean open his door, both women stopped what they were doing, bowed, and said in unison, "Good morning, Master."

Sunshine poured through the floor-to-ceiling windows, casting a delicate play of light and shadow across the two women’s beautiful profiles. Sean couldn’t help but marvel to himself. ’Letting the Eleanor Sisters stay was definitely the right choice. It feels amazing to wake up and see beautiful Maids.’

"Good morning, Elise, Eleanor," Sean replied, then asked, "Have you two eaten yet?"

Elise, thinking Sean was showing concern for them, answered with a sweet smile, "We’ve already eaten, Master."

Sean: "Excellent."

"Eating your own meal before your Master has dined... You tell me, what should the punishment be?"

Elise: "???"

Eleanor: "..."

’Damn it, he baited us.’

Elise said with a pout, "Master, you’re being mean."

Eleanor, however, asked tentatively, "Master, have you read the *Court Maid Manual* as well?"

"I haven’t." Sean wasn’t lying about that. "But don’t you forget, your Master was once the greatest noble in the entire Era of Polymath. When it comes to these rules, no one knows them better than I do."

"Seeing as this is your first offense, I won’t be too harsh."

"Later, when you have a moment, go find Yisha and get the workbooks. I want each of you to copy them out ten times."
