December 15th, night.
Krim State, Mozgo Castle.
As the most prosperous and bustling central city in the state, the local residents were always fond of saying—
"Mozgo Castle has no night!"
The nights here were more lively than the days.
The daytime world belonged to others; the nighttime, to oneself.
Competition in modern society is intense, especially in the workplace. To gain a foothold in this major city, many people have no choice but to work hard and put in overtime. In such a high-intensity, fast-paced environment, they had almost no personal time. So they chose to sacrifice a few hours of sleep, using a rich and varied nightlife to comfort their weary bodies and souls.
Coincidentally, many wealthy people also loved the night. For them, however, nightlife wasn’t a form of catharsis but a symbol of freedom, wealth, and unrestraint.
And so, these two different classes of people came together to form a city of endless revelry that never slept.
Meanwhile, inside the Royal Opera House, a solo piano recital was underway.
A graceful, melodious tune drifted through the luxurious concert hall. It made one feel as if they were standing by the sea, embraced by a gentle ocean breeze at sunset. The atmosphere was so captivating, one could easily get lost in it.
And yet, despite such a beautiful and moving performance, the hall was almost completely empty.
There was only a single man, dressed in an expensive suit with a handkerchief folded like a flower in his breast pocket. He was leaning back quietly in a seat in the middle of the second row, his expression rapt as he enjoyed the sublime piano music.
...and the pianist, who had slender fingers and was as beautiful as an angel.
Carlos truly enjoyed all of this.
He was different from those vulgar nobles who only knew how to hunt for women in bars or gamble away their fathers’ allowances in casinos. He was a man of refined taste. Compared to the mass-produced, low-quality liquor and the cheap girls who would strip for cash, he much preferred elegant light music and women with a unique artistic temperament.
’Just think,’ he mused, ’if they play so beautifully, they must sound even better when they scream.’
For this reason, Carlos had bought out all the tickets for the recital.
He wanted to savor every sound the beautiful pianist Dorunla made, all by himself.
Until his subordinate burst into the concert hall.
"Mr. Carlos!"
"This is bad!"
"Something terrible has happened!"
The abrupt, frantic shouts were like a dagger to the graceful melody, causing the piano to stop short.
Carlos frowned, displeased.
"You had better have a good reason for this."
’Otherwise, for such a rude interruption, he’d be thrown into the Saint Houston River to feed the fish.’
The subordinate gasped, "Mr. Carlos, something really terrible has happened!"
Carlos nodded slightly. "Very good."
He believed him.
But no matter how major the issue, it wasn’t as important as his personal business.
Carlos stood, adjusted his collar, and walked onto the stage with a smile.
"Miss Dorunla, your gown tonight is a perfect fit."
Dorunla bit her lip slightly, not answering.
Carlos asked again, "I wonder, has Miss Dorunla given my offer some thought?"
A trace of stubbornness showed in Dorunla’s conflicted expression. "Mr. Carlos, I’ve said it before. We’re not a good match."
’This wasn’t the first time this man had come to her recital.’
’Every time, he booked the entire venue, imperiously forcing her to perform for him and him alone.’
’Without a doubt, Carlos was incredibly rich.’
’And probably very powerful, too.’
’After all, for a place like the Royal Opera House, you needed more than just money to buy out all the tickets.’
’But not everyone in this world is swayed by money and power.’
’Dorunla valued personality far more.’
’She hoped her other half would be someone who could put up with her occasional bad moods, tolerate her bouts of willfulness, and share her interests. Money, looks, family background... none of that mattered.’
Carlos chuckled. "We haven’t even tried, Miss Dorunla. How can you be so sure we aren’t a good match?"
Dorunla lowered her head. "Mr. Carlos, I’m not as perfect as you think."
Carlos: "I know."
"I’m not perfect either."
"There’s no such thing as a perfect person in this world."
"But it’s our imperfections that make us ’human,’ isn’t it?"
"Miss Dorunla, please don’t doubt your own Charm, and don’t doubt my taste," Carlos said gently. "Believe me, I can appreciate not only your confident, beautiful exterior, but also the imperfections and cautiousness you hide away. I think we should try dating for a while and see. If you decide we aren’t a good match, you can walk away at any time. What do you say, Miss Dorunla?"
Dorunla lifted her beautiful eyes to look at him, seemingly moved.
"You can really accept all of me, the good and the bad?"
"Of course," Carlos said, his eyes full of adoration. "When you truly like someone, isn’t that how it’s supposed to be?"
Dorunla: "Even the fact that I’m a man?"
Carlos’s smile froze. "...?"
"What did you say?"
The initial conflict in Dorunla’s eyes had given way to anticipation. "The truth is, you like men too, right?"
Carlos: "?"
’Like hell I do!’
"Wait a minute. I’ve seen your file. Didn’t it say you were female?"
Dorunla: "That’s my gender identity. I filled it out myself."
Carlos: "?"
"So you’re saying you’re biologically male but identify as female??"
Dorunla nodded shyly. "Mmm-hmm~"
Carlos took a deep breath, as if he had made some kind of decision.
Dorunla, thinking he was actually willing to give it a try, switched from defense to offense and took the initiative, reaching for Carlos’s hand.
Unexpectedly, Carlos yanked his hand away, pulled a stack of tickets from his pocket, and slammed them onto the piano with a SLAP.
