The Most Arbitrary Wizard

Chapter 316 - 157: Something Big Has Happened

"Damn it, I want a refund!"

Dorunla: "???"

"Didn’t you just say you’d accept everything about me?"

"That was on the condition that you were a woman!"

Carlos suddenly realized his statement wasn’t precise enough, so he made a point to clarify, "Biologically female!"

Tears of grievance welled up in Dorunla’s eyes. "You lied to me! You scumbag!"

Carlos: "???"

’You son of a bitch... You’re the one wearing a dress, pretending to be a young female pianist, and you have the gall to call *me* out?’

’Who’s the real scumbag here, playing with people’s emotions?’

The beautiful, elegant image of Dorunla in his mind shattered instantly. Carlos felt as disgusted as if he’d swallowed a fly. Cursing his bad luck internally, he turned to leave, not wanting to lay eyes on this man who considered himself a woman for another second.

Leaving Dorunla alone, slumped over the piano, sobbing softly.

His subordinate hurried after him.

Carlos went to the restroom first. Having just been "held" by Dorunla, he washed his hands several times, seething with anger.

After coming out, he strode quickly toward the opera house exit.

He didn’t want to spend another second in this godforsaken place.

On the way, he finally seemed to remember his subordinate had something to report and said as he walked, "Go on, what is it?"

"It’s big!" his subordinate said hurriedly.

"Mr. Carlos, the Florist Family has been wiped out!"

Carlos stopped in his tracks. "?"

"What did you say?"

"I don’t think I heard you right. Say that again. Who was wiped out?"

"The Florist Family."

His subordinate repeated, "It happened last night. The news is already everywhere."

It wasn’t just text reports; there were pictures, too. A quick search online would pull up a ton of them.

Florist Castle, once as heavily guarded as a military fortress, had been reduced to ruins overnight.

It had clearly been through a massive battle.

Logically, a violent conflict of this scale should have attracted the attention of the local police and any other Witch Hunters who happened to be in Lankate City. But the reality was, there wasn’t a single sound during the entire battle. All the nearby residents said they slept soundly last night and heard nothing unusual. It wasn’t until this morning, when a farmer on his routine delivery of fresh ingredients to the Florist Family drove his truck up, that he discovered the world had caved in...

The Florist Family only lost a castle and some people.

But he lost a whole truckload of goods!

With such a large quantity, who was he going to sell it to now that the Florist Family was gone?

When the police arrived on the scene, they discovered that Florist Castle hadn’t just collapsed.

Almost everything of value was gone. They didn’t even spare the crows registered as "pets."

The police department classified the incident on the spot.

"As what?" Carlos asked.

The subordinate: "A large-scale home invasion and robbery."

Carlos: "?"

’Such an obvious Wizard case, and they’re classifying it as a robbery?’

"A bunch of incompetents," Carlos muttered, cursing elegantly under his breath.

’Slept soundly my ass. Weren’t they obviously put under hypnosis?’

His subordinate said quietly, "I’m guessing the Siracle State Government pressured them."

With the Florist Family gone, the state government is the biggest power in all of Siracle State. If they say it was a robbery, then it has to be a robbery, even if it wasn’t.

Carlos raised his voice. "Doesn’t that make them even more stupid?"

The Siracle State Government is doing this for two reasons: one, to seize the opportunity to rise in power, and two, to cover up the truth. But can something this big really be covered up by simply calling it a "home invasion"?

During the last plane crash incident, the Siracle State Government was already treating the public like fools. Some people might have thought their performance was brilliant and their speeches passionate, but in Carlos’s view, the government’s official story was riddled with holes. They would have been better off saying nothing, not holding any press conferences, and just letting it cool down. They could have dragged out a few public figures they keep on their payroll to have a scandal or something. After a while, when the hype died down, people would naturally forget about it.

But no, the Siracle State Government just had to be so damn self-righteous.

It was like they didn’t get enough of it last time, so they’re at it again.

"Just you wait."

"In less than three months, this current batch of old geezers in the Siracle State Government will all be packing their bags and getting the hell out," Carlos said.

What the Church Court wants is stability and the unwavering faith of all its citizens. They probably don’t even care that the Florist Family was destroyed, but if public opinion becomes a problem, then someone will have to take responsibility.

"If I recall correctly, Siracle State will be starting a new gubernatorial election in the middle of next month, right?" Carlos asked.

His subordinate nodded. "Correct."

Carlos saw this as a golden opportunity. He narrowed his eyes in thought. "Perhaps... we could stick our oar in?"

A single family controlling two states—there was no precedent for that. He didn’t know if the Church Court would allow it.

If they allowed it, that would be for the best. If not, there was nothing to be done.

But it would take time to send someone new to take over Siracle State. In the meantime, even if they just managed to get a temporary governorship, they could skim a hefty profit. Who would complain about having too much money?

No matter what happened, their Wolf Family wouldn’t lose out.

"No, wait."

Carlos suddenly remembered something. "The Florist Family was wiped out yesterday?"

His subordinate: "Yes."

"Didn’t we also make a delivery to the Florist Family yesterday?" Carlos asked.

His subordinate: "Correct."

"Did it arrive?"

The subordinate: "It all arrived. Our men are already on their way back."

Those men got lucky. They arrived in Lankate City at noon, made the delivery, and left. The timing was perfect, letting them miss the night the Florist Family ran into trouble.

"What about the money?" Carlos asked again. This was his main concern. "Did they pay?"
