Subordinate: "...No."
As per their agreement, payments were settled every six months, after delivery. Today was December 15th, meaning there were still fifteen days until the settlement date. In other words... no one would be paying them this year.
The timing of the Florist Family’s annihilation was perfect for swallowing their last shipment of the year, successfully maximizing the Wolf Family’s losses.
"Shit!" Carlos cursed.
"Do you know how much that batch of Magic Potion Materials was worth?!"
"A full one hundred million!"
They made two deliveries to the Florist Family each month: one at the beginning of the month, and one in the middle.
From July until now, they had made 16 deliveries. That was 1.6 billion!
That was enough money for him to find hundreds, even thousands, of beautiful pianists who both identified as and were biologically female!
Of course, his subordinate knew the materials were valuable.
But he had no idea the Florist Family was going to be suddenly annihilated...
A powerful family, in no way inferior to the Wolf Family and the true masters of Siracle State, had been wiped out overnight. Just like that. If the source hadn’t been reliable, he would have thought the Florist Family was pulling some kind of group insurance scam.
"Did you find out who did it?"
"Not yet."
Carlos: "?"
"Say that again?"
"Oh, no, no, no, we found something! We found something!"
Seeing Carlos was about to fly into another rage, the subordinate quickly changed his tune. "Based on my guess, this has to be connected to the Dream Builders."
None of the residents near Florist Castle heard a thing. Hypnosis on such a massive scale made him think of one person—Sopea.
Of all the Wizards he knew, only Sopea was capable of something like that.
Carlos frowned. "Isn’t he from our Krim State?"
As one of the top targets on the Wolf Family’s list, Carlos was certainly familiar with the name Sopea.
But he hadn’t received any recent reports of Sopea leaving Krim State.
The subordinate scratched his head awkwardly. "Those High-tier Wizards are difficult to keep tabs on. You know that, Mr. Carlos..."
Having people at Tier Three and Tier Four shadow a Tier Six Wizard without being discovered was, to be honest, asking a bit much of them.
Carlos knew this as well, so he didn’t dwell on it. "Besides Sopea?" he asked.
"Was the Night Watcher there too?"
"That’s... hard to say," his subordinate said hesitantly. "The report on the Magic Power traces from the scene isn’t out yet, but my personal opinion is that the Night Watcher probably wasn’t there."
Because there was no "motive."
The Night Watcher has a volatile temper and holds grudges. If he really wanted to attack a family, it would be one that had previously besieged the Long Night Union, and the Florist Family was not on that list. So, the destruction of Florist Castle probably wasn’t the Night Watcher’s doing—or at least, it wasn’t an idea from the Long Night Union.
"The most likely culprit is still the Dawn Council," the subordinate said.
After all, the Dawn Council was the local Wizard Organization in Siracle State and could be considered the Florist Family’s true arch-nemesis. They were always at each other’s throats in a kill-or-be-killed struggle. Perhaps this time the Florist Family really provoked the Dawn Council, pushing them to take a desperate risk and attack their main stronghold.
"No." Carlos’s gaze flickered. "It’s not that simple."
’Everyone gets desperate sometimes, himself included. But in most cases, losing your cool doesn’t solve any problems—it just makes you look like a clown.’
’If you can’t win, you can’t win. Even if you get so desperate your eyes pop out, you still can’t win.’
The Florist Family was no paper tiger; they had killed their fair share of Dawn Council members in the past. So why hadn’t the Dawn Council tried this before?
Because they knew perfectly well that Florist Castle was not a place they could enter.
Just as the Wolf Family wouldn’t carelessly attack the Wizards’ strongholds.
The higher the Tier, the more tricks they have. You never know how many Magic Arrays your opponent has set up at home, just waiting for you to fall into them.
Therefore, if the Dawn Council dared to go to Lankate City, they must have had some intelligence about a "weak point" in the Florist Family.
For example, that the Florist Family had sent most of its people away, leaving its internal defenses hollow.
Upon hearing this, his subordinate’s expression turned serious. "Brilliant, Mr. Carlos!"
"Hah." Carlos sneered. "If I were really so brilliant, would I have shipped goods without getting paid? Would I have wasted my time on a man who thinks he’s a woman?"
Subordinate: "..."
Apparently, Carlos was still hung up on the Dorunla incident.
He took a breath and said in a low voice, "Regardless, this won’t be over so easily."
He could guess what these Wizards were thinking.
They wanted to turn the tables, to go from the hunted to the Hunters.
But would it really be that easy?
Prey will always be prey.
When a massive quarry suddenly turns and kills a Hunter, the other Hunters don’t get scared. They certainly don’t get timid.
They will swarm it, killing the dangerous beast together with their hunting rifles. They do this to warn the remaining prey to obediently play their part and not get any ideas, lest they meet a miserable end.
The subordinate seemed to understand. He asked tentatively, "Mr. Carlos, you mean we’re going to avenge the Florist Family?"
"Avenge them? No." Carlos said mockingly. "The Wolf Family doesn’t have friends who get killed by their prey."
"I just want to take back what’s ours and make the ones who swallowed our shipment settle their bill."
"That’s all."
Just as Carlos expected.
「One day later.」
