The Most Arbitrary Wizard

Chapter 337 - 164: "A Matter of Great Importance

The plane took off within Siracle State.

And Kendili International Airport is an official airport.

Regardless of who was truly behind the explosion, to pull something like this off, they would have had to go through the Siracle State Government.

In other words, as the Governor, Pulente must have known about it.

And who died in the plane crash?

A group of suicide-bombing Witch Hunters.

Along with a flight crew of questionable innocence.

All of them were people from the Church Court.

So the party that truly suffered was the Church Court.

Then there’s the press conference afterward.

The Church Court was the one who got hurt there, too.

Pulente is clearly a very smart man, a natural-born politician. Yet he used the most foolish and far-fetched explanation for the cause and circumstances of the crash, treating the public like idiots. It caused the "great" persona he’d painstakingly built to collapse overnight. The Siracle State Government’s reputation plummeted as a result, and even the people’s faith was shaken. With a mind like Pulente’s, could he really not have anticipated that fabricating such a story would have such severe consequences?

No, Pulente knew.

It’s not just Pulente; any politician would understand that public opinion is what matters most.

No matter what you truly think, you at least have to appear to be for the people. If you respect them, they’ll respect you. By the same token, if you treat them like idiots, they’ll call you an idiot.

But Pulente did it anyway.

What does that tell us?

It suggests that making the Church Court suffer was perhaps Pulente’s true goal.

People from the Church Court "dying in the line of duty," the government’s reputation tanking, and faith being shaken—this is the outcome Pulente wanted.

"Governor..." Sean said as he walked behind the sofa. He placed his hands on Pulente’s shoulders from behind, leaned down, and whispered in his ear, "Do you think my analysis makes sense?"

Pulente’s expression shifted slightly, but he masked it well. He grunted and said, "I don’t know what you’re talking about."

Elise sighed. "A classic."

Pulente: "What’s a classic?"

"That line of yours."

Elise blinked and said, "’I don’t know what you’re talking about’—people playing dumb love to say that."

Pulente: "..."

Sean chuckled as well. "It’s fine even if the Governor truly doesn’t understand. After all, what you think isn’t important."

"What’s important is what *I* think."

"And what the Church Court thinks."

"If the Church Court thinks you’re a problem, then you’re a problem even if you aren’t one."

"So, Governor..."

"You don’t really have a choice."

"Cooperating with us is your only way out."

Sean’s tone was heavy. "The Governor wouldn’t want the Church Court to find out about these little schemes of his, would he?"

Pulente: "?"

’Damn it, is this kid treating me like some beautiful housewife who’s been caught with a dirty secret while her husband’s away?’

"Are you threatening me?" Pulente turned his head to stare at Sean.

"Of course not," Sean said with an innocent look. "I’m merely stating a fact to the Governor."

"But if the Governor insists on thinking that way, there’s nothing I can do. If you say it is, then it is."

Pulente: "?"

Elvire: "..."

’That line’s a classic, too.’

’He sounds like a seasoned scumbag the moment he opens his mouth.’

"My time is limited, so the Governor should make a decision quickly." Sean patted his shoulder, sat on the sofa opposite him, and crossed his legs. "While I’d love to cooperate with you, Governor, I won’t force the issue. If you’re really unwilling, I can find someone else. We can still be friends."

These words seemed reasonable, giving off a "no hard feelings if the deal doesn’t work out" vibe, but in reality, this was the real threat.

Pulente could already see it. Sean wanted an obedient "Puppet Governor," and intended to use him to control Siracle State. So it didn’t matter who the puppet was; what mattered was their obedience.

If he wouldn’t do it, plenty of others would.

The gubernatorial election had only just begun. With nearly a month left, Sean had more than enough time to back another politician and get them into office.

Meanwhile, tonight’s polls showed his approval ratings were absurdly high—several times that of his competitors. It was safe to say his reelection was a sure thing; no one could contend with him.

Unless he happened to pass away before the election was over.

Pulente had no doubt Sean was capable of such a thing.

These guys were lawless Wizards to begin with. In their eyes, the government was in cahoots with the Witch Hunter Families, making them enemies. Killing an enemy was perfectly normal.

Zajik was the perfect example.

Originally, Pulente hadn’t been afraid of Sean making a move on him.

He possessed the highest Tier in the Farm World and knew the Truth Technique. Forget Sean, even if Adelf himself showed up, there would have been nothing he could do.

But who knew this young man also knew the Truth Technique.

Not only did he know it, he could even control Pulente’s own Technique.

He had been careless and failed to dodge.

The Flame Crow had blasted him with a Phoenix Curse, leaving him half-dead.

If Sean wanted to kill him now, it would be effortless.

’...No, I can’t die.’

’I still have an unfinished mission.’

’I promised to make Siracle State great again.’

As Pulente thought this, his gaze hardened. Finally, he gritted his teeth and nodded. "Fine. I agree."

"But there’s one thing I have to make clear."

"Cooperating with you doesn’t mean I’m afraid of you. I’m only thinking of the people of Siracle State."

"Those other politicians just try to one-up each other with grand promises. Their words are beautiful, but they never get anything done. All they think about is how to fleece the public under the guise of policy. Putting Siracle State in their hands would be the same as sending everyone who lives here to Hell."
