The One King

Chapter 07: The Divine Soul

When Azrael realized that his current level of power was insufficient to determine the nature of the mysterious presence he had sensed within Gaia's body, he ended the examination and opened his eyes.

Gaia slightly raised herself when she saw that Azrael had opened his eyes. Then she asked in a slightly trembling voice,

"Did you find anything?"

Azrael stared at her for a long moment before finally answering,

"Your energy pathways are intact, and your dantian is in perfect condition."

He paused for a moment.

"In fact, it is even larger than that of an ordinary cultivator."

The moment Gaia heard his words, happiness appeared on her face.

For twenty-one years...

Twenty-one years of believing that she had been born without talent.

And now, someone with unimaginable experience was telling her that her dantian was not defective. In fact, it was superior to that of an ordinary person.

She asked eagerly,

"Then... did you discover why I can't cultivate?"

Azrael sighed once more.

"No. I haven't discovered the reason yet."

The happiness that had appeared on Gaia's face instantly vanished, replaced by a sorrowful expression that made her look utterly pitiful.

But Azrael continued,

"However, I sensed the presence of something inside your body."

Gaia raised her eyes toward him.

"And because my current cultivation is insufficient, I couldn't determine what it is."

Hope returned to Gaia's eyes, but it was quickly mixed with fear.

"There is something inside my body... and even you couldn't determine what it is?"

Azrael answered calmly,

"But I have a way to force it to reveal itself."

He gestured toward her.

"Lie down again."

Gaia obeyed, although anxiety filled her eyes.

Azrael then called out,

"System."

The familiar voice of the Eternal Council System sounded in his mind.

"Examine her body."

The system immediately carried out the command.

A mysterious force flowed through Azrael's body before entering Gaia's body through his hand, which remained placed against her. The system began conducting a complete and extremely detailed examination of every part of her body.

Only several seconds passed.

Then the system's response appeared in Azrael's mind.

[Examination complete.]

[The target's physical body is healthy.]

[The target's physical condition is superior to that of an ordinary cultivator.]

[A living existence at the Divine Realm has been detected.]

[The existence is residing above the target's dantian.]

[The existence is continuously absorbing the target's spiritual energy.]

[As a result, spiritual energy is unable to enter the target's dantian, preventing the target from beginning cultivation normally.]

Azrael opened his eyes.

Gaia was staring at him with hope and vulnerability, anxiously waiting for the result.

Azrael smiled faintly and said,

"I've discovered why you can't cultivate."

Gaia's face immediately brightened.

"Really?!"

She looked at him eagerly.

"You've discovered why I can't cultivate? Then what is the reason?"

Azrael's expression became somewhat strange.

"There is a spiritual existence of an extremely high level residing above your dantian."

He paused briefly.

"It is absorbing your spiritual energy. That is why you cannot cultivate."

Gaia was stunned.

Then fear began spreading through her eyes.

Another spiritual existence...

Inside her body...

Since the day she was born?

She swallowed nervously before asking,

"How high... is the level of this spirit?"

Azrael answered simply,

"The Divine Realm."

Gaia's face turned pale.

A god.

There was a divine spirit living inside her body.

For twenty-one years.

Twenty-one entire years...

And she had never known of its existence.

Twenty-one years spent enduring ridicule and contempt, believing that her inability to cultivate was caused by her body or her lack of talent.

But the truth was that a divine existence had been residing above her dantian, continuously absorbing her spiritual energy and preventing her from cultivating.

The fear in her eyes gradually transformed into anger.

Gaia clenched her fists and looked at Azrael.

"Can you get it out?"

She paused for a moment.

Then she added in a sharper tone,

"Or better yet... can we destroy that spirit?"
