The One King

Chapter 12: The Forbidden Demonic Technique

Olivia hesitated to reveal the true reason she had entered Gaia's body.

The words were caught in her throat, and her mind raced as she searched for a way to soften the impact of the truth. But then she noticed Azrael's eyes.

The coldness in them had gradually deepened until his gaze resembled a frozen lake whose depths could not be seen.

At that moment, Olivia's survival instinct warned her.

If she continued to remain silent, something terrible would happen to her.

Her hesitation vanished instantly.

She gathered herself and said,

"After I returned to the mortal world thousands of years ago, I traveled across every corner of the world, gathering treasures, spiritual herbs, and pills in preparation for creating a new body for my soul. But in some ancient ruins in the Northern Barbarian Continent, I discovered a forbidden demonic technique."

She paused.

Gaia listened attentively, but the moment she heard the words "demonic" and "forbidden," a chill ran through her body.

Her instincts told her that whatever Olivia was about to say would be horrifying.

And her instincts proved correct.

Olivia continued,

"This forbidden demonic technique allows a powerful soul to possess anyone's body, as long as that person's soul is weaker than the possessing soul."

Silence descended upon the room.

Even the air seemed to stop moving.

In the next instant, Olivia felt a terrifying killing intent lock onto her.

But it wasn't coming from Azrael.

It was coming from Gaia.

Gaia raised her eyes toward Olivia.

There was no longer the slightest trace of kindness or hesitation in them.

Her face was cold and severe, as though she could hardly wait to tear apart the soul that had stolen twenty-one years of her life.

Olivia smiled bitterly.

She realized that her fate had already been decided.

Olivia was now Azrael's subordinate, and attempting to possess the body of one of his subordinates was practically equivalent to slapping Azrael across the face.

Knowing that man's temperament, there was no doubt that Azrael would kill her...

Or worse, he might torture her.

Gaia looked at Olivia with an icy expression and said,

"So you entered my body with the intention of possessing it? And by entering my body, you absorbed my energy and prevented me from cultivating throughout my entire life, forcing me to live in hell for twenty-one years."

Olivia trembled.

She couldn't deny a single word.

For the first time, after hearing Gaia describe everything in those terms, Olivia truly understood the extent of the suffering she had caused without ever caring about it.

Her ethereal body froze, and regret appeared on her face.

Then she said,

"That's true. Everything that happened to you was because of me."

Azrael remained silent.

He listened to their conversation without interrupting, but his gaze briefly shifted toward Gaia.

He said nothing.

Yet, somehow, Gaia felt that his presence beside her gave her a sense of security she had not experienced in many years.

Gaia turned toward Azrael and said,

"My Lord, although I don't know your name or your identity, you are the only person who has treated me like a human being in a very long time. Therefore, I want to ask you for a favor."

Azrael looked at the woman before him.

Although they had rarely spoken during the days since their first meeting, he couldn't deny that he felt a strange sense of familiarity toward her.

Perhaps it was because the two of them had lived through similar pasts.

Both had known loneliness.

Both had tasted abandonment.

Azrael said,

"Ask."

Gaia glanced at Olivia.

Then she turned her gaze back to Azrael.

"Please destroy her soul."

She pointed toward Olivia.

Olivia trembled.

But Azrael did not answer immediately.

He looked at her for several moments before turning his gaze back to Gaia.

Instead of anger, a gentle smile appeared on his face.

He said to Gaia,

"Are you certain you want her dead? Because I have a better idea."

Gaia tilted her head curiously.

"What is it?"

Azrael's smile widened slightly.

It was different from his previous smile—calm on the surface, yet enough to send a chill through Olivia's soul.

Azrael continued with a sinister smile:

"I possess a forbidden technique of my own. It allows me to enslave any living being, whether spiritual or physical, through absolute servitude until the very end of its existence."

Olivia froze.

For the first time since leaving Gaia's body, she felt that perhaps death was not the worst fate she could face.
