The Real Heiress Has an Appraisal System
Chapter 58: 40, Divorced, with 2 KidsGu Shengsheng didn’t take her words to heart at all.
"I don’t believe you."
"You’ve always wanted to be a freeloader. ’Eat, drift, and wait for death’ is basically your life’s motto."
Lu Linlin had never given a single thought to getting ahead in life.
First, there was no need; her family had more money than they could ever spend. Second, she was sharp enough to realize that if she could just coast, why bother joining the rat race?
Gu Shengsheng had known from the start that Lu Linlin was capable of anything. She at least knew a little bit of all the things a legendary socialite was supposed to know—piano, dance, and even business.
She just didn’t want to do them, nor did she have to. Her daily "job" was to go out and have fun.
Lu Linlin grinned at her. "Sister-in-law, since you already see through my little scheme, I won’t hide it anymore. I just want to invite you to come have fun with me."
"I’ve discovered these past few days that going out alone is no fun. You made so much money today. Can’t you take a break and come out with me?"
"I’m not going." Gu Shengsheng had no interest in going to clubs or places like that.
She would only feel out of place if she went.
Lu Linlin resorted to acting cute, hugging Gu Shengsheng’s arm and refusing to let go. "Sister-in-law, if you don’t come with me, it’ll be so dangerous for me to be out alone at night!"
"What if some creep shows up? I’m so frail and weak. What if you never see me again after tomorrow?"
At this, her eyes even started to turn red.
Gu Shengsheng really had to hand it to her. She could only say helplessly, "Alright, let’s go."
"But I’m not drinking or partying. I’ll just watch you. I’m not doing anything else."
"Deal!"
Lu Linlin linked arms with her and said, "Well then, Sister-in-law, what are we waiting for?"
Gu Shengsheng pointed at her pajamas. ’Are we seriously going out like this?’
With a practiced motion, Lu Linlin whipped off her pajamas, revealing a sexy little slip dress underneath, complete with fuzzy trim and sequins. In a flash, she swapped her earrings for a pair of large hoops.
She also quickly applied a coat of bright red lipstick.
Gu Shengsheng was speechless. "..."
’Damn, this is the first time I’ve ever seen a production like this.’
"Should I go change into a dress, then?"
After all, she had been busy all day. Gu Shengsheng was about to change her dress, but Lu Linlin immediately stopped her.
"I’ve checked, Sister-in-law. All your clothes are too conservative. You’d look like a dean of discipline in them. This is fine! This outfit is perfect for clubbing."
"Clubbing?" Gu Shengsheng’s eyes widened, but before she could refuse, Lu Linlin was already dragging her out the door.
"Sister-in-law, I’m not letting you go back! Now that you’re on my pirate ship, don’t even think about escaping!"
"..." Gu Shengsheng was speechless. She could only accept her fate.
’I hope it won’t be too awful.’
"We shouldn’t drive. If we both get drunk, it’ll be a hassle to call for a designated driver."
Just as Gu Shengsheng finished her motherly warning, Lu Linlin smiled and said, "I’ve got it covered!"
"Young Madam, Young Miss." Lin Kai greeted them formally.
"This is my older brother’s former assistant, and now he works for Lu Chaoyang. But he’s the person I trust the most. Sister-in-law, you should trust him from now on, too."
"Okay, okay, I’ll trust him," Gu Shengsheng muttered. "You haven’t even had a drink. Why are you acting as giddy as a drunk person?"
Lin Kai explained, "The Young Miss is always like this. It’s normal. Out of twenty-four hours in a day, she’s normal for five minutes. The rest of the time, she’s recharging."
The two women got into the car, and Lin Kai sent a message to his boss: "Boss, aren’t you returning to the country tonight? I probably can’t come pick you up. The Young Miss and the Young Madam are going to a club. I’m taking them there now."
With that, he thoughtfully sent the club’s address as well.
Seeing no reply, he figured his boss must be on his way back. So, Lin Kai didn’t think any more of it.
Lu Linlin was already buzzing with excitement.
"Sister-in-law, I’ll show you a good time later. We’ll party tonight, and you can take tomorrow off so we can go shopping. How about it?"
"Okay," Gu Shengsheng nodded.
Then she added, "I can’t drink. I’m a one-drink lightweight. You can do the drinking."
"Mhm! No problem!" Lu Linlin said. "Sister-in-law, don’t do anything you don’t want to. I’m already happy that you’re just coming with me."
"My mom says people like me have no skills and can’t contribute to the family, that all I know how to do is be lazy and go out to have fun. A lot of the girls from the other prominent families don’t hang out with me, but I’m happy to be free. I do whatever I want."
"Why should we be tied down by all that nonsense, right?"
"Right," Gu Shengsheng nodded.
It’s best to live the way you want to live.
Lu Linlin leaned on her shoulder. The moment they arrived at the nightclub entrance, she threw open the car door and, with a WHOOSH, flew out like a pixie.
She then gestured for Gu Shengsheng to hurry up and go inside.
Gu Shengsheng frowned and looked at Lin Kai, who was standing to the side. She said, "We’ll go in first. You can come in after you park the car."
"You got it, Young Madam!"
This was Gu Shengsheng’s first time in a place like this. The music was deafening, and as soon as she walked in, she could feel her heart start to race.
She had a strange urge to leave. You couldn’t even hear someone talking unless they were right next to you.
Seeing Gu Shengsheng’s desire to flee, Lu Linlin immediately pouted. "Sister-in-law, you’re not going to abandon me and leave, are you?"
"...No. Let’s go. I’ll make sure you have a good time tonight."
Even though Lu Linlin didn’t say anything, Gu Shengsheng could feel that she was very upset inside. ’What happened to her today?’
The two of them started by sitting at the bar. In the middle of the dance floor, many pretty young women were dancing energetically.
The people in the crowd below were all swaying their hips.
The bartender mixed two drinks and gave them to Lu Linlin. She handed one to Gu Shengsheng and said, "Sister-in-law, if you don’t drink this, it’s like you haven’t even been here. You have to at least try the specialty."
"Don’t worry, the alcohol taste isn’t strong. It’s more of a fruit cocktail."
"I’m not drinking." Gu Shengsheng had always been stubborn and principled. When she said she wasn’t drinking, she meant it.
Lu Linlin’s eyes darted around. "Sister-in-law, if you don’t drink it, I’ll have to drink it myself. Otherwise, it’ll go to waste."
"No, you can’t drink that much."
"Then you drink it, Sister-in-law! You’ve never had a drink before, anyway. Give it a try this once. What if you end up liking it? Every time I come here, I have to drink to have a good time."
Before Gu Shengsheng could react, Lu Linlin pressed the glass to her lips.
Gu Shengsheng took a small sip. The first taste was surprisingly good. She asked, "What’s this drink called?"
The bartender flirted with her. "Heart of the Ocean. Does the young lady have a boyfriend? How about you give me your WeChat?"
Lu Linlin: "Go for it, she’s single."
Gu Shengsheng: "Divorced, two kids, forty years old."
When you’re out and about, you decide who you are. Whatever you say, goes.
