The Rebirth of Humanity

Chapter 23: The Stages of Training

Several days had passed since the initial training had begun.

During that time, the army's commanders came to understand one undeniable truth.

Gathering hundreds of thousands of warriors beneath a single banner had been nothing more than the first step.

Turning them into a true army...

Was far more complicated.

A warrior might possess immense strength, a powerful weapon, and years of combat experience.

But that did not necessarily mean they knew how to be a soldier.

A soldier needed discipline.

The ability to follow orders.

The knowledge of how to fight alongside others.

And the ability to remain calm when the battlefield descended into chaos.

For this reason, the army established a comprehensive training program.

It was not random training.

It was a series of consecutive stages.

Each stage had a specific purpose.

And every stage had to be completed before advancing to the next.

And so...

The first stage began.

In the early hours of the morning...

The training grounds filled with thousands of recruits.

They stood in perfectly straight lines.

No one moved.

No one spoke.

No one dared leave their position without an order.

The instructors stood before them.

Then the commands began.

"Attention!"

Everyone straightened.

"Advance!"

The ranks moved forward.

"Halt!"

They stopped at the exact same moment.

"Turn!"

The units turned together.

At first, there were countless mistakes.

Some recruits moved faster than others.

Others were too slow.

Some had never grown accustomed to following orders in the first place.

But the instructors showed no tolerance for such mistakes.

The exercises were repeated once.

Then again.

Then dozens of times.

Until obeying an order became instinctive.

The purpose was not to humiliate the recruits.

It was to instill a simple principle in their minds.

In an army, an individual does not move according to their own will once an order has been given.

Because the delay of a single person on a battlefield could lead to the collapse of an entire unit.

And so the training continued until thousands of soldiers could move as though they were a single body.

After discipline came physical training.

Despite all the recruits being cultivators, the army did not rely on energy alone.

The body was the foundation of every warrior.

Therefore, the recruits were subjected to grueling exercises.

Long-distance running.

Weight carrying.

Jumping.

Dodging.

Climbing.

Endurance training.

And prolonged combat without rest.

But the training was not the same for everyone.

Each cultivation realm had its own program.

Those at the Energy Sensing Realm underwent training focused on building a powerful physical foundation.

For those at Foundation Establishment and Energy Core, the exercises became increasingly demanding.

As they reached the Nascent Soul and Divine Transformation Realms, the training placed greater emphasis on controlling energy while maintaining physical strength.

Those at the higher realms were subjected to exercises suited to their powerful bodies.

As for the Bronze Immortals and Silver Immortals...

Their requirements were entirely different.

An Immortal's body could withstand forces that would effortlessly crush the bodies of ordinary cultivators.

Therefore, the objective was no longer simply to increase strength.

It was to increase their ability to fight for extended periods while maintaining the highest possible degree of control over both body and energy.

After completing their physical training...

The recruits moved on to weapons training.

The army's weapon stores were opened.

Various weapons were placed before the recruits.

Swords.

Spears.

Axes.

Greatswords.

Bows.

Daggers.

And heavy weapons.

No one was forced to use the same weapon.

Each recruit had to determine which weapon they were most proficient with.

Then...

The training began.

Repeated strikes.

Defense.

Evasion.

Counterattacks.

Distance management.

Exploiting an opponent's weaknesses.

And most importantly...

Using weapons within a formation.

A warrior who could wield a sword with great skill in single combat might hinder their comrades if they used it improperly within a military formation.

Therefore, weapon mastery alone was not enough.

A recruit had to learn when to attack...

When to defend...

When to retreat...

And when to leave room for the warrior fighting beside them.

After mastering the fundamentals...

The individual combat examinations began.

The recruits entered specialized arenas.

Each warrior faced an opponent whose cultivation level was close to their own.

The objective was not to kill the opponent.

It was to test skill.

Speed.

Reaction.

The ability to read an enemy's movements.

Energy control.

And the ability to make use of the surrounding environment.

At first, many recruits relied on brute force.

But as the examinations continued...

The instructors began correcting their weaknesses.

A warrior who wasted their energy too quickly was forced to repeat the examination.

A warrior who relied on a single attack was matched against opponents capable of exploiting that habit.

And a warrior who lost focus under pressure was subjected to additional training.

The army was not searching for the strongest strike.

It was searching for the most efficient warrior.

Here...

The real difficulty began.

The recruits were divided into units.

Ten individuals.

Then fifty.

Then one hundred.

And eventually, even larger formations.

Each unit was given a specific mission.

Attack.

Defense.

Protect a target.

Escort another unit.

Rescue the wounded.

Or withdraw from a dangerous area.

Every individual had to know their position.

A single mistake in movement could create an opening in the formation.

The warriors began learning how to protect one another.

The close-combat warrior protected their comrade's flank.

The ranged fighter provided support.

The healer remained in the rear.

The scout monitored the unit's surroundings.

And the commander watched over the entire battlefield.

For the first time...

The recruits began to understand the true meaning of an army.

Strength did not come merely from the number of warriors.

It came from their ability to work together.

For the cultivators, this stage was even more important.

Strength alone was not enough.

A warrior who could not control their energy properly might exhaust their reserves far too quickly.

Thus began the training in precise energy control.

Releasing the minimum amount of energy necessary.

Strengthening the body.

Reinforcing weapons.

Protecting vulnerable points.

Concealing one's aura.

Increasing movement speed.

And channeling energy into coordinated attacks.

The training varied according to cultivation realm.

Cultivators at the lower levels learned basic control.

Those at higher levels were taught increasingly complex methods.

As for the Bronze Immortals and Silver Immortals, their energy-control training became even more demanding.

The higher one's strength...

The more dangerous a mistake became.

Once the recruits had learned to fight both individually and in groups...

They began training in military formations.

Offensive formations.

Defensive formations.

Protective formations.

Siege formations.

Retreat formations.

And encirclement formations.

Every unit trained to switch between formations with speed and precision.

On a real battlefield...

The army might begin with an attack.

Then be forced to defend in the very next moment.

Then retreat.

Then launch another assault.

For this reason, the ability to change formations rapidly was of enormous importance.

The soldiers trained until changing formations became almost instinctive.

One command from the leader...

And the entire unit moved.

Not every human was suited for direct combat.

Therefore, the army began assigning specialized roles.

Fighters.

They formed the primary strength of the front lines.

Scouts.

They specialized in reconnaissance and detecting enemy movements.

Sensory specialists.

They possessed abilities that allowed them to perceive and sense distant targets.

Healers.

They were responsible for treating injuries and preserving the lives of soldiers.

Formation specialists.

They were responsible for establishing military formations, barriers, and defensive structures.

Ranged fighters.

They specialized in bows, long-range weapons, and offensive abilities that allowed them to strike enemies from a distance.

Heavy-weapon wielders.

They specialized in breaking through enemy defenses and destroying fortifications.

Thus...

Not every soldier was merely a fighter.

Every individual now had a defined role within the army.

After completing the previous stages...

The most difficult stage began.

War simulation.

Massive training grounds were constructed to imitate different environments.

Plains.

Forests.

Mountains.

Cities.

And fortified regions.

Then the battles began.

The orders were no longer simple.

The units had to make rapid decisions.

A simulated enemy would suddenly appear from an unexpected direction.

A unit would come under a surprise attack.

A commander would be declared wounded.

Certain resources would run out.

Communication between two units would be severed.

And sometimes...

The entire army would receive an order to retreat.

The objective was not simply to determine who could win.

It was to determine who could maintain their organization when everything began to go wrong.

At this stage...

Many commanders began to fail.

Some lost control of their units.

Some made poor decisions.

And some managed to turn disastrous situations into opportunities.

These examinations revealed the true talents within the army.

After completing every stage...

Each unit had to undergo the final examination.

It was not a test for an individual.

Nor was it a test for a small group.

It was a test for the entire unit.

The unit had to complete a fully integrated military operation.

Advance toward the objective.

Secure the area.

Protect its soldiers.

Deal with sudden attacks.

Manage its resources.

Execute its orders.

Then return without allowing the formation to collapse.

The unit was evaluated according to several factors.

Discipline.

Cooperation.

Combat strength.

Speed.

The ability to execute orders.

Casualties.

Leadership efficiency.

And the ability to deal with unforeseen circumstances.

Only units that succeeded in every aspect received a high evaluation.

As for units that failed...

They returned to the stages in which they had fallen short.

And began their training again.

And so...

A massive transformation began to reshape the nature of the Human Army.

At first, they had been nothing more than warriors gathered from across Zeta.

Then they became recruits.

After that, they became units.

Then they began learning how to fight together.

And with the passage of time...

Something new began to emerge.

Discipline.

Coordination.

Experience.

And mutual trust.

A soldier no longer looked at the person standing beside them as a stranger from another city or a follower of a different family.

They saw them as...

A comrade-in-arms.

As the training continued...

The training grounds of Zeta began to fill with a sight humanity had not witnessed in thousands of years.

Endless ranks of soldiers.

Banners fluttering above the training grounds.

Units moving in perfect coordination.

Energy colliding across the skies.

And commands echoing throughout the land.

The army was still in its infancy.

But its foundation...

Had been laid.

And now...

The question was no longer how to gather humanity.

Nor how to unite it.

But something far more dangerous.

Could this army fight a real war?
