The Reincarnated Hitman
Chapter 90: Attacking The Splinter’s Base [2]: Liam Vs Tesla"Let’s get this over with, shall we?" The clone said as he readied himself to fight.
"Of course," Tesla responded with a smile.
For a moment, neither of the two made a move as they simply stood there, reassessing each other.
Liam knew he couldn’t make the first move, since the woman before him was quite unpredictable.
But he couldn’t stall forever either because that’d just give her enough time to sense that he was relying on Dr. Crew’s tech right now.
Soon enough, it seems a decision was made for him, because the next second,
BOOM!
Thanks to the tech that Dr. Crew had created so that he could replicate or even surpass the speedster’s Factor, Liam’s clone managed to move just in time to avoid a blast of electricity from Tesla.
The blast slammed into the wall behind him, immediately turning it into lava, but Liam couldn’t afford to pay attention to that since he was forced to move again.
"Your Factor is quite annoying, newbie," Tesla said after missing yet another attack. "how bout you hold still and let me blast a hole through you?"
"No thank you," Liam responded, "I quite like my body without a hole through it."
"Pity."
BOOM!
She missed another attack, and this time, Liam decided to close the distance, and since he was a lot faster than she was, he was certain that he could catch her off guard.
At least, that’s what he thought.
The reality of the situation was quite different. Liam noticed the smile on Tesla’s face a little too late.
BANG!
Something hot suddenly slammed into his side, launching him towards the opposite end and knocking the breath out of him.
"You’re quite tenacious," he heard Tesla speak, but felt as if his entire body was electrocuted by a million volts, so he couldn’t exactly pay attention to her words.
Fortunately for him, the pain was a lot less than what it could’ve been if his original body experienced it.
"I was certain that would be enough to kill you," Tesla said as she placed a hand on her chin and looked at him with interest.
Of course she knew that the newbie was a lot faster than her, so she simply decided to bait him in.
When she launched one of her electric bolts, she maintained control over it and set it to return to her.
Unfortunately for the kid, he had fallen for her trap and tried getting close to her, hence the current situation he was in.
Liam, meanwhile, was using up as much Pragma as possible to make sure that the clone didn’t disappear.
Fortunately, the clone itself was a Pragma battery, so he could just pull from its own Pragma.
"Damn it," he let out as he slowly recovered, "why’d I have to put nerves in this body?"
Tesla, seeing that he was recovering, charged up a much stronger blast before launching it at him again.
But just before the electric blast could reach him, Liam suddenly disappeared, letting the blast hit the ground he was previously on.
Tesla’s eyes widened. After all, with how many volts she had slammed into the yellow-haired kid, she was certain that he’d be unable to even move a finger,
Much less use his Factor.
Sensing a quickly approaching danger, she suddenly surrounded herself in arcs of electricity, forcing Liam to step back.
He finally had the chance to look at the damage done to the clone, and it didn’t look pretty in the least bit.
The half of his body where the bolt had hit him now had permanent lightning-shaped scars that seemed to still be sizzling, with smoke rising from them.
The entire upper half of his clothes was completely gone, making the scar even more obvious now.
Unlike Lea, Liam had no way of healing the scars; neither had he mastered cellular regeneration to force it in the clone.
Fortunately, it was only a clone, so he didn’t exactly have to worry about the scars.
"Did you know?" Tesla pulled his attention back to her, "There is an electromagnetic field almost everywhere around us."
Liam silently looked at her, waiting for what she was about to do.
"And thanks to the neat little amplifier Dr. Crew made us, I can manipulate that field as much as I’d like," she continued with a smile.
Despite her words, Liam chose not to say anything as he instead remained on high alert.
"What I’m trying to say is," Tesla lifted her hand, "the amplifier allows me to do this too."
For a few seconds, nothing seemed to be happening, but the next, the hitman’s instincts suddenly screamed for him to move.
Liam disappeared just before a massive chunk of concrete was ripped from the ground and launched upward.
The moment he came to a stop, though, a bolt of electricity was already heading towards him, but again, he managed to move moments before it could fry him.
Tesla wasn’t about to let him recover, as she launched multiple blasts of electricity and metal towards him.
Fortunately for Liam, she wasn’t adept enough in manipulating electromagnetic fields to control his, hence the reason she was choosing objects that were completely still.
A steel pipe came flying towards his head, and he quickly caught it before launching it back towards her.
The pipe was moving too fast for her to gain control of it in time, so she suddenly put both hands before her as if trying to block it.
But just before the steel pipe could reach her, it froze midair, which caused it to tremble due to the unspent momentum.
The steel pipe attempted to break through whatever was in front of it for a while before falling to the ground.
The moment the pipe hit the ground, Tesla smiled, "Did you really think something like that would work?"
"No," Liam responded from behind her, "but it provided enough distraction."
Her eyes widened as she realized how close he was to him, but before Liam’s attack had the chance to land.
BOOM!
An electric bolt slammed into him again, launching him to the other end of the room.
This time, the clone wasn’t moving a single muscle as more sizzling scars appeared on its body.
With a chuckle, Tesla said,
"Bye-bye, newbie."
