The Reincarnated Hitman

A few days after the date, Liam found himself in his Zero persona again with a binocular in hand as he looked through it.

"I guess that’s it?" He muttered, looking at the building on the side of the cliff.

It was exactly the place his clone had seen, the Splinter’s base.

It was finally time for Zero to go rescue Dr. Crew, but first, he had to make sure that the man’s family was safe.

From all the clones he found out, his family was also being held within the base, and no one except the maid and the leader of the Splinters had access to the room they were held in.

"Would’ve been a lot easier if they were being held somewhere else," Zero muttered as he lowered the binoculars.

"Fortunately, I came prepared."

He had spent the last few days preparing everything he needed for this operation, as he couldn’t afford to underestimate the Splinters, especially given who their leader was.

"Time to get started."

Deep underground, within Dr. Crew’s laboratory, the scientist could be seen tinkering with something that seemed to be nothing more than one of his other side projects.

Since there were no cameras within the Lab, the Splinters couldn’t exactly monitor him, nor did they have any way of knowing what he planned.

The man looked at the orb in his hand before muttering, "This should create a big enough distraction."

The scientist carefully placed the orb on the table before taking a few steps back.

He had spent the past few days preparing it, using whatever materials he could get his hands on without attracting the attention of the Splinters.

It wasn’t a weapon.

Well, not in the conventional sense anyway.

The orb was designed to overload the laboratory’s energy systems, forcing the entire base to shut down for several minutes.

That alone wouldn’t be enough to get him out, but it would create the opening Liam needed.

Crew glanced towards the door.

"Hopefully the kid knows what he’s doing."

He still found it difficult to believe that David’s son had managed to infiltrate the Splinters and replace one of their own.

But after seeing the transformation with his own eyes, there was little reason to doubt him.

The scientist took a deep breath before pressing his finger against the orb.

"Let’s hope this works."

For a moment, nothing seemed to be happening, but the next second,

BOOM!

A low sound that was similar to an explosion was suddenly heard, and then the lights flickered before going out completely, plunging the room into darkness.

Crew grinned.

"Perfect."

"Hmm?" Cube let out as he heard the explosion and noticed the sudden blackout. With a frown, he asked, "What’s going on?"

"It seems the electrical systems have been overloaded by a sudden spike of energy," a girl with blue eyes, hair and glasses said.

Tesla.

She had on the uniform of the Splinters with the skull logo, an indication that she was one of the seven awakened Splinters.

Well, one of the three that were still alive.

Her Factor allowed her to sense and control electricity, but with the amplifier, she could extend her control to even electrical or rather, electromagnetic fields.

Tesla adjusted her glasses as she closed her eyes, the faint hum of electricity suddenly filling her ears.

"The entire power grid is fluctuating," she muttered.

Cube frowned, "Can you fix it?"

"Of course."

She lifted her hand in the air before opening her eyes, revealing that they were now glowing.

"The problem isn’t the generators," Tesla continued, "something overloaded the distribution system."

The lights above her suddenly started flickering before they finally stabilized, driving the darkness away.

"That was fast." The yellow-haired kid was the one who spoke up this time.

"Yeah, I’m that awesome." She turned to him with a smile before adding, "I only restored the lights, though; everything else would need a hands-on fix, so why don’t you give me a hand?"

"Sure," the clone said, still maintaining a bored expression.

Crew had done his part of the plan, creating a distraction.

Cube was now headed to the basement, since he was certain that there were only two people capable of causing what just happened, and one of them was currently going to fix it.

Which left only Dr. Crew.

"Perhaps it’s time I remind him that his family is still in my hands," the Splinters’ leader said as he headed towards the elevator.

The clone glanced at him for a while before following Tesla; it was time for him to do his part of the plan,

Take out one of the two awakened humans within the base.

"You don’t talk much, do you?" Tesla asked as they walked towards the direction of the grid box.

For the nth time today, the yellow-haired kid only nodded in response, but she didn’t seem to mind.

The two continued walking for a while, but the Splinter suddenly stopped and turned to him with a smile.

"Now then," Tesla started with a smile, "what did you promise the scientist to get him to attempt an escape?"

"..."

The clone had a frown on his face as he looked at her, and she simply chuckled before saying, "It was quite obvious."

"After all, the scientist never once thought of escaping due to his fear of putting his family in danger," she elaborated, "but after a single visit from you this happened.... don’t you also think it’s quite strange?"

"Or perhaps this is just a coincidence," Tesla added, but it was obvious enough that she already knew that he had a hand in whatever was happening right now.

The clone remained silent.

His expression didn’t change, but Tesla noticed the slight shift in his eyes which was all she needed.

"Ah," Tesla’s smile widened, "So I was right."

The clone wasn’t interested in pretending anymore, since his real body had already infiltrated this place, so he simply let out a sigh and answered, "and here I was, thinking that I would never get found out."

His expression turned serious as he added,

"Let’s get this over with, shall we?"
