"I don’t think wanting a normal family is selfish."

Liam said, looking directly at her.

Of course he knew what her family was like, but he also knew that they weren’t always like that.

They were once a family like many others; unfortunately, all that changed after his awakening.

And now, all they saw her as was a tool that’d help them climb to the top of the world. They saw her as someone the world should bow before, hence the reason she became a hero in the first place.

He hated what she had to go through because of them, but they weren’t at the stage where he’d be allowed to interfere just yet.

Besides, it’s not like he could kill them either since that’d just cause his Radiance to become sad, and he didn’t want that.

"Damn it," Olivia suddenly muttered with a chuckle, "you brought me here just to have me ruin the mood."

"Doesn’t that just mean you’re comfortable enough to share it with me?" He responded with a smile.

"I guess," she finally realized that she really was comfortable with him, "still, I didn’t mean to make it this depressing."

"You didn’t," Liam shook his head.

"Really?"

"Really."

"Now then," he turned to the snacks on the blanket, "let’s eat?"

"Hmm," Olivia nodded before picking up what seemed like a chocolate pudding.

The two were in silence as they watched the sun disappear beneath the horizon, but just when she got worried that they’d be plunged into darkness,

She witnessed a scene that could only be described as straight out of a fantasy.

The flowers around them started lighting up, and a couple of artificial fireflies rose into the sky, showering them with a warm, almost ethereal light.

This was the reason why this place was a popular tourist attraction.

It made one almost feel as if they were in a completely different world.

"Wow," Olivia couldn’t help but let out.

"Beautiful, right?" The hitman asked as he looked around the grassy field. Though it was in Liam’s original memories, he hadn’t personally experienced it, so it felt surreal to him too.

It was a place created by an awakened human with a plant-manipulation Factor as a final gift to his lover, and since she was a people person, he had opened it up to the public, certain she would be happy to see so many couples around.

"Hmm," Olivia nodded, her eyes still fixed on the glowing flowers and fireflies.

At this very moment, it felt that every bit of burden on her mind had simply faded away. She didn’t have to think about her family or even the fact that she was Radiance.

She was truly relaxed right now.

Time passed without the two noticing, and by the time they were down, it was already quite dark.

The drive back was a quiet one.

Not because either of them had run out of things to say, but because Olivia seemed unusually content.

She rested her head against the window, watching the lights of the city pass by while a small smile remained on her face.

Liam glanced at her from the corner of his eye before returning his attention to the road.

"Had fun?" he asked.

"Hmm," Olivia nodded without hesitation, "a lot more than I expected."

"I guess the climb earlier was worth it?" He asked with a small grin.

"Yeah," She turned towards him, her smile becoming a bit wider, "I don’t think I’ve ever had a day like this before."

He knew exactly what she meant.

Being Radiance meant she was constantly surrounded by people, yet very few of them actually treated her like a normal person.

Her family saw her as a means to an end, the public saw her as a symbol, and even her agent had to worry about maintaining her image.

But today, she had simply been Olivia and Liam had made sure of that.

"I’m glad."

Olivia stared at him for a few seconds before looking away again.

"Liam?"

"Hmm?"

"Can I ask you something?"

"Sure."

"Why are you so nice to me?" Olivia said, looking directly at him.

’Because you’re a comic book character I fell for?’

But obviously, he couldn’t say that, so instead, he thought for a moment before answering, "Do I need a reason?"

She shook her head, "No, but..."

Olivia turned back to the city out as she added, "It’s just a bit strange that you’re being this nice to a stranger who you barely even know?"

Only she knew.

"I guess I’m just that strange," Liam said with a chuckle as he still kept his eyes on the road, "but if I had to answer..."

He glanced at her and smiled before saying, "Maybe it’s because I liked you from the moment I met you."

"Eh?"

Olivia suddenly froze when she heard his words; of all the answers she expected, this was probably the last thing she thought of.

But that was only because she was quite dense.

"Like, as in, like like?" She asked, just to be certain that she wasn’t misunderstanding his words.

"Yes, Olivia," Liam responded with a smile, "I like like you."

She didn’t know how to respond to that, and her entire face immediately turned red.

Olivia immediately turned her attention towards the window, hoping the darkness outside would hide her reddened face.

Unfortunately, Liam could still see her reflection.

With a chuckle, he said, "You don’t have to overthink it; I’m not asking you to give me an answer right now."

Olivia stared at him for a moment, seemingly unable to find a response.

She had expected him to give her some vague answer about being friends or simply enjoying her company, but instead, he had casually admitted that he liked her.

How was she supposed to not overthink that?

And where the hell was Raika when she was needed?

"I..." Her mouth finally seemed to respond to will, "c-can I think this through?"

"Of course."
