[Imperial Procession — The Capital of Qashmar]

The Imperial carriage rolled slowly through the heart of the capital. Its white wheels glided across ancient stone roads polished by centuries of history. On either side...an endless sea of people stretched as far as the eye could see.

Children perched upon their fathers’ shoulders. Old veterans stood proudly in worn uniforms, saluting as the procession passed. Flower girls scattered silver moon lilies beneath the direwolves’ feet. Merchants abandoned their shops. Priests raised prayers toward the heavens.

Every street, every balcony and every rooftop...overflowed with people, the moment the Imperial carriage appeared—

"LONG LIVE HIS IMPERIAL MAJESTY!"

"GLORY TO EMPEROR KAEL!"

"LONG LIVE HOUSE VAELRIC!"

The cheers became thunder. White petals drifted through the air like snow beneath the summer sun. Inside the carriage... Kael quietly watched everything through the crystal window, his amber eyes reflecting thousands of smiling faces as a little boy waved both hands enthusiastically.

Kael smiled. Then he slowly lifted his own hand; the crowd erupted.

"He waved! His Majesty waved at us!"

"LONG LIVE THE EMPEROR!"

Laughter spread through the streets. A woman clasped her hands together, tears streaming freely down her wrinkled cheeks.

"Our empire...finally has an emperor again."

Kael continued watching the celebrations, the laughter, and the hope shining within countless eyes. After a long silence...he spoke almost to himself.

"...They’re happy." His voice was barely above a whisper. "So many people...are smiling."

Across from him... Lytharion sat with effortless elegance, one leg crossed over the other, his head rested lazily against one hand. His eyes had remained closed ever since the procession began.

Almost as though none of this interested him. Only after Kael spoke did one golden eye slowly open. He glanced out of the carriage window; his gaze swept across the cheering crowds.

The waving banners, the endless celebration. Then...he quietly replied,

"They are."

Silence.

His golden eye slowly narrowed.

"But not everyone."

Kael turned toward him, the smile upon his face slowly faded. "What do you mean?"

Lytharion closed his eyes once more; his voice remained calm, almost indifferent. "The scent of joy...is the strongest today. Which makes the scent of hatred...even easier to find."

Kael’s expression became thoughtful. Outside, the people continued celebrating. Inside only silence remained.

After several moments. Kael lowered his gaze, his fingers slowly tightening against the white fabric covering his knee. "I knew this day would come. I accepted it...long before I signed the Imperial Decree."

His voice remained steady, without regret. "The moment the crown rests upon my head...my life will no longer belong to me."

Another long silence.

"I know. I’ll become the target of every noble who desires the throne. Every assassin seeking glory and every kingdom wishing to weaken Qashmar." He looked back toward the cheering citizens.

"And perhaps...death itself." His amber eyes softened. "If protecting these smiles...requires my life, then I have already accepted that price."

Silence.

For the first time since entering the carriage... Lytharion slowly opened both eyes; those ancient golden irises settled completely upon Kael. The teasing smile that usually rested upon his lips was gone.

"You speak of your own death..." His voice was low. "...far too casually."

Kael smiled faintly. "My father always taught me something."

Lytharion remained silent.

"’An Emperor who fears death...’" Kael looked toward the endless sky beyond the carriage window. "...will never have the courage to protect the living."

The carriage continued forward. Its wheels echoed softly against the ancient stones. Lytharion watched Kael for a long, silent moment, and then he spoke.

"...Mortals."

Kael looked back at him.

"You spend your entire lives trying to convince yourselves that dying for someone is the greatest proof of love." His golden eyes grew distant.

"...It isn’t."

Silence.

Kael frowned slightly. "Then what is?"

Lytharion’s gaze drifted toward the celebrating empire beyond the window as his answer came so quietly it was almost carried away by the wind.

"Living. Choosing to survive...even when every part of you wishes to surrender." His eyes returned to Kael. "That...requires far greater courage, and right now, you’re not that courageous, my queen."

The carriage fell silent once more. Neither man spoke again.

Outside, the empire continued to celebrate. Inside two souls sat opposite one another. One ready to sacrifice his life for his people. The other was silently wondering whether he could save the man who had already decided to die.

Beyond the cheering crowds the towering gates of the Imperial Palace slowly came into view. The time for celebration was coming to an end.

[The Day Of Coronation Ceremony]

Before dawn the Imperial Palace awakened. Thousands of servants hurried through its endless corridors. Royal maids carefully polished every marble pillar until it reflected the morning light like a mirror. Gardeners carried baskets overflowing with white moon lilies, crimson roses, and silver wolf orchids.

The grand staircases were draped in banners bearing the Imperial Crest. Red, silver, and gold. The three sacred colors of Qashmar fluttered proudly from every tower.

Above them all, the banner of House Vaelric danced beneath the morning wind. Outside, the entire imperial capital had transformed into a sea of celebration.

Every street shimmered beneath ribbons of silver silk. Crystal lanterns hung from rooftops despite the daylight. Fountains overflowed with floating moonflowers. Even the oldest bells in the capital rang proudly without pause.

The empire celebrated not merely the birth of a new emperor...but the return of hope.

[Imperial Palace — Grand Plaza]

One after another luxurious royal carriages arrived before the palace gates. Each more magnificent than the last.

Representatives of the Seven Great Houses stepped onto the crimson carpet beneath the watchful eyes of thousands of Royal Knights. Each Duke and Duchess wore robes embroidered with the symbols of their Houses.

Some smiled politely; others whispered quietly among themselves. Many watched one another with carefully hidden suspicion.

Politics...never rested. Not even on a coronation day. High priests dressed in flowing ivory robes slowly climbed the marble staircase.

Their staves shimmered beneath the morning sun as sacred hymns echoed throughout the palace courtyard.

Imperial musicians stood ready beside the grand gates. The moment the emperor arrived...the Royal Orchestra would announce his ascension before the entire empire.

Above them the towering palace balconies overflowed with nobles from every province. Every conversation ended with the same question.

"When will His Majesty arrive?"

[The Royal Chamber—Same Time]

Silence filled the private royal chambers. Several attendants stood respectfully with lowered heads; none dared speak.

At the center of the room. Kael stood before a towering mirror. For a long moment...even he scarcely recognized the reflection staring back at him.

Gone were the simple robes of House Vaelric. In their place stood an emperor. His ceremonial attire had been woven from the rarest Imperial silk. Pure white formed the foundation of the robe...representing justice. Deep crimson swept elegantly across the shoulders and sleeves like flowing fire...the sacred color of the Red Wolf, symbolizing courage, sacrifice, and unwavering resolve.

Every crimson thread had been embroidered with impossibly fine silver vines that curled into ancient wolf motifs—the blessing of the First Wolf King. A magnificent mantle rested across his shoulders. White wolf fur trimmed its edges, while delicate silver chains fastened it beneath an ornate clasp shaped like a crescent moon embracing a wolf’s head.

The long overcoat flowed almost to the floor, splitting elegantly at the front to reveal layers of ceremonial robes beneath. Each movement caused the crimson fabric to ripple like a living flame.

Around his waist rested an Imperial belt crafted from polished white leather, adorned with silver engravings depicting the founding of Qashmar.

At his side hung the ceremonial sword of the Empire. Its snow-white scabbard gleamed beneath the morning light.

The hilt, forged entirely from silver, had set into its guard a single crimson ruby. The Heart of the Red Wolf. His black leather boots rose neatly to his knees, their silver buckles engraved with the Imperial Crest.

Upon his hands rested immaculate white gloves bordered with intricate crimson embroidery. Even before the crown, he already looked every bit the sovereign.

His crimson ceremonial cape fell from both shoulders in graceful folds. Its inner lining shimmered with silver threads that caught the sunlight like scattered stars.

Across the back, stitched by the finest artisans in the empire, stood the legendary Red Wolf, standing proudly beneath the lunar moon.

The symbol of House Vaelric, the symbol of the Emperor. Kael slowly lifted his gaze toward the mirror; his amber eyes remained unchanged, still calm and still gentle.

Yet today they carried a quiet authority they had never possessed before. One attendant swallowed nervously.

"His Majesty..." Another lowered her head immediately. "...looks exactly as the portraits described."

"No..." an elderly royal tailor whispered with trembling eyes. "...Far more magnificent."

The chamber fell silent once again; no one dared interrupt the moment because standing before them...was no longer merely the heir of House Vaelric. Nor the acknowledged mate of the Lord of Darkness.

Standing before the mirror... was the man destined to become... the Emperor of Qashmar.
