[House Vaelric — The Emperor’s Chamber]

Silence.

Kael stood before the towering mirror one final time; his reflection stared back at him. The crimson ceremonial mantle rested perfectly across his shoulders. The silver wolf clasp gleamed beneath the morning light. Every fold of his robes had been arranged with flawless precision.

Outside...the distant sound of royal trumpets echoed across the capital. The coronation procession had arrived.

Kael slowly exhaled, his fingers unconsciously tightening around the ceremonial gloves covering his hands.

"...Let’s go."

His voice was calm. Yet...he could not quite hide the nervousness lingering beneath it. He turned toward the chamber door. Then his footsteps stopped.

For a brief moment he glanced over his shoulder. Lytharion still occupied the same place near the open window, one leg lazily crossed over the other. His posture carried the effortless elegance of someone to whom centuries meant nothing.

The obsidian pipe rested loosely between long fingers. Dark smoke curled upward in slow spirals before disappearing into the morning sunlight. Golden rays framed his midnight-black hair, making each strand shimmer like flowing silk.

He looked less like the Lord of Darkness...and more like a painting brought to life, ancient, untouchable, and dangerously beautiful.

Kael hesitated. "Are you...not coming?"

Lytharion didn’t answer immediately; he slowly inhaled from the obsidian pipe. The fragrant smoke lingered for a moment before he exhaled it toward the open sky. Only then did those ancient golden eyes shift toward Kael.

"No." His answer was simple. Matter-of-fact. "I am a deity. The road you walk today...belongs to mortals."

He turned his gaze back toward the capital beyond the window. "The throne, the crown, the empire—those are not places where a god should stand."

Silence settled between them.

"Not even beside him, Queen?"

No..."

Kael lowered his gaze. "I see."

Lytharion’s voice remained calm.

"But..." That single word made Kael look back; the deity rested his chin lightly against one hand. A faint smile almost too small to notice appeared upon his lips.

"...I shall be watching." His golden eyes met Kael’s. "From afar. So...go."

Outside another trumpet echoed through the palace grounds. The procession was waiting. Lytharion’s smile slowly disappeared; his expression became unreadable once more.

"There are many...waiting to welcome their emperor." Then his voice dropped lower. "And far too many...waiting to become his executioners."

The chamber grew cold.

"The wolves will kneel before you." His gaze sharpened. "But never forget...the foxes smile before they bite."

Kael remained silent; he understood not every bow meant loyalty, not every smile meant kindness, and not every congratulation came without poison hidden beneath it.

He slowly nodded.

"I have already accepted that."

Lytharion studied him for several long moments. Then he gave the slightest incline of his head.

"...Good."

Another ribbon of dark smoke escaped into the air.

"My Queen..." The title no longer sounded teasing. It carried a strange solemnity. "Walk proudly. You do not carry only a crown today; you carry the hopes of an empire."

Kael smiled faintly. "And perhaps...the worries of one deity?"

For the first time that morning Lytharion actually chuckled. A low, quiet, unexpected sound. "You became brave, but do not flatter yourself. I merely dislike unnecessary disorder."

Kael laughed softly; he placed one hand over his chest, a gesture of respect, not to the Lord of Darkness but to the man who had chosen to let him walk this path alone.

"...I’ll return."

For just a heartbeat Lytharion’s golden eyes softened. Kael gave one final nod. Then, without looking back again, he opened the chamber doors.

Brilliant sunlight flooded inside. The cheers of thousands poured into the room like crashing waves from far. The future emperor stepped forward.

Toward his destiny. Behind him the Lord of Darkness remained seated beside the open window. Watching silently until Kael disappeared from sight.

"You’re walking towards your death, my queen, and...I cannot do anything."

[The Imperial Palace — The Throne Hall]

The enormous doors of the Throne Hall remained closed. Beyond them, the fate of an empire waited.

Thousands had gathered. The Seven Great Houses. Imperial Dukes. Marquesses. Counts. Generals. Commanders. Royal Ministers. Representatives from every province of Qashmar, even ambassadors from neighboring kingdoms, had crossed continents to witness the birth of a new emperor.

Not a single seat remained empty.

Above them, magnificent crystal chandeliers hung from the vaulted ceiling, scattering countless rays of golden light across polished white marble. Towering pillars carved with the history of every emperor stretched toward the heavens.

Between them hung enormous crimson banners embroidered with silver wolves beneath the lunar moon. At the very end of the hall rested the Imperial Throne.

Forged from celestial gold marble. Its armrests were carved into two majestic wolves. Behind it stood a towering silver moon disc, symbolizing the eternal blessing of the Spirits upon Qashmar.

Upon a velvet cushion before the throne rested the Imperial Crown. Fashioned from gold. Set with countless diamonds that shimmered like frozen stars.

At its center glowed a single crimson ruby.

The Heart of All Wolves.

No one dared look at it for long because once it touched a man’s head, he would cease to belong to himself. He would belong to the Empire.

Before the throne stood the high priest.

High Priest Azrakan.

His flowing ivory robes shimmered beneath the sacred light pouring through the stained-glass dome overhead. Ancient silver runes had been embroidered into every layer of his ceremonial garments.

His long white hair flowed neatly behind him, while the Staff of the First Spirit rested firmly within his hand. His eyes remained closed in silent prayer.

Around him stood twelve Spirit Priests. Each holding sacred lanterns whose silver flames never flickered.

Silence filled the hall.

No one spoke, no one even dared whisper. Then—

BOOM...

The great doors slowly began to open; every noble immediately lifted their heads. Golden sunlight poured through the entrance. Royal trumpets echoed throughout the palace. Their sound rolled across the Throne Hall like thunder.

The master of ceremonies struck his golden staff upon the marble floor.

CLANG!

His voice resonated through every corner of the palace.

"His Imperial Majesty...Kael Vaelric..."

Another strike.

CLANG!

"...Future Emperor of the Empire of Qashmar..."

One final strike and the hall seemed to hold its breath.

CLANG!

"...Has arrived."

Silence.

Then Kael stepped through the doorway; every eye in the Throne Hall turned toward him. His crimson ceremonial robes flowed gracefully behind him. The wolf clasp upon his mantle caught the morning light.

The crimson cape embroidered with the White Wolf trailed elegantly across the polished marble floor. His ceremonial sword rested calmly at his side, and his amber eyes remained steady, neither arrogant nor uncertain.

Simply calm. Each step echoed softly throughout the hall.

Step...

Step...

Step...

The sound alone commanded attention. The nobles stared without blinking; some looked impressed, others looked uneasy, and a few...looked afraid.

Because for the first time they truly saw the man who would soon rule them. As Kael continued walking toward the throne, something extraordinary happened.

High Priest Azrakan, his ancient gaze settled upon the young Alpha. For several long moments...he simply watched him.

Then, without hesitation, the high priest lowered himself onto one knee. He bowed deeply before Kael.

The sacred staff rested respectfully across both palms. His solemn voice echoed throughout the chamber.

"May the Sacred Spirits bless...His Imperial Majesty...Kael Vaelric."

The moment the high priest knelt, every spirit priest immediately followed. Then, one by one, the entire throne hall descended into respectful bows. Even the proud dukes of the Seven Great Houses lowered themselves before the future emperor.

One after another. Until...thousands of voices united as one.

"Glory to His Imperial Majesty!"

"Long live the Emperor of Qashmar!"

"May the Red Wolf reign for a thousand years!"

Their voices shook the palace itself. The banners fluttered; the crystal chandeliers trembled. Outside...the bells of the capital answered, and their echoes spread beyond the palace walls, across the cities, across the mountains, and across the Empire itself.

Kael stopped several steps before the Imperial Throne, his gaze slowly sweeping across the sea of bowed heads before him.

The mightiest nobles, the wisest priests, and the greatest generals all knelt. The high priest’s voice echoed beneath the vaulted ceiling.

"Let the Coronation Ceremony...begin."

The twelve Spirit Priests stepped forward together. Each carried a sacred relic upon a velvet cushion.

The Imperial Crown. The Emperor’s Scepter. The Imperial Seal. The Sword of the First Sovereign. One by one...they were placed upon the marble altar before the Imperial Throne.

Finally, two priests approached carrying another object.

A crystal chalice. Its surface shimmered with silver runes. Inside...a deep crimson liquid reflected the light like liquid ruby. High Priest Azrakan accepted the chalice with both hands.

He turned toward Kael.

"Your Imperial Majesty..." His voice carried centuries of tradition. "Before the Sacred Spirits acknowledge your reign...you must complete the Rite of Sovereignty."

He slowly raised the crystal cup.

"This wine is prepared according to the ancient covenant forged by the First Emperor. It symbolizes sacrifice, it symbolizes duty, and it symbolizes the promise...that an emperor shall forever place the empire before himself."

The hall remained utterly silent.

Every noble watched with unwavering attention; the high priest stepped down from the altar until he stood directly before Kael. He respectfully offered the crystal chalice.

"Drink...and let the Spirits bear witness to your oath."

Kael lowered his gaze; the crimson wine shimmered quietly within the crystal. It looked almost...too red like fresh blood beneath the palace lights. His fingers slowly closed around the stem of the chalice.

The crystal felt strangely cold, almost unnaturally so. High Priest Azrakan spoke once more.

"Once this wine passes your lips...there shall be no turning back. You shall cease to belong to House Vaelric. You shall cease to belong to yourself. You shall belong...to the Empire of Qashmar."

A long silence followed.

Kael slowly nodded. "I understand."

He lifted the chalice; the entire Throne Hall held its breath. Thousands of eyes followed the crystal cup as it rose toward the future Emperor’s lips.

Another inch...another... Just as the rim touched his mouth, a voice echoed through the Throne Hall, cold, ancient, and powerful enough to silence the world itself.

"...My Queen."

The temperature throughout the palace plummeted.

Every candle dimmed, the silver flames bent violently as though bowing before something greater. Kael froze; the crystal chalice stopped in midair.

Every noble stiffened, and everyone instinctively lowered their heads. A shadow slowly stretched across the white marble floor.

Then—

CRACK.

The towering doors of the Throne Hall burst open; a wave of darkness rolled silently into the chamber.

And at its center...stood the Lord of Darkness. Lytharion’s ancient golden eyes remained fixed upon only one person. Kael.

His expression was unreadable, but his voice...carried an authority that not even the spirits could ignore.

"...Do not drink that.
