Their Sect Leader had suddenly taken off. The men who had set off the fireworks, now waiting for Lu Sangjiu to come to the rescue, were completely baffled.

’Uh... should we keep waiting or not?’

Just as they were hesitating, Gu Jue—whose Spiritual Power had been sealed, making him seem like a lamb to the slaughter—suddenly broke free!

"This is bad! Grab him!"

Alarmed, the men rushed forward to seize him, but the Teleportation Talisman in Gu Jue’s hand was already active.

They were too late. With a flash of golden light, Gu Jue vanished.

The Teleportation Talisman from Lu Sangjiu was affected by the thick fog, sending him a relatively short distance, but it was enough for Gu Jue.

She had given him a healing pill earlier, and his injuries had mostly recovered. Now that he had put some distance between himself and his captors, he could make a clean getaway.

And yet... his steps faltered, and he couldn’t help but look back.

’Was that her?’

’If I leave, what will happen to her?’

A flicker of conflict crossed Gu Jue’s eyes. He almost gave in to the urge to run back.

’But then again,’ he thought, ’since she dared to let me go, she must already have an escape plan.’

’I’ve lost the Phoenix Cry Sword. Even if I went back, I wouldn’t be able to fight someone at the Divinity Transformation Stage. I’d probably just get in her way.’

He desperately tried to convince himself, finally managing to suppress the urge to turn back.

’Lu Sangjiu... please be safe!’

’Even if you can’t get out right away, it’s fine. Just keep up your disguise and wait for me! I’ll come back with reinforcements to save you!’

Meanwhile, Lu Sangjiu had been dragged to the bottom of the lake by a sudden, immense force.

After a brief moment of suffocation, Lu Sangjiu felt herself slam onto the ground. A sharp pain shot through her back, but she could breathe again.

She struggled to sit up and look around, only to discover an underground palace built at the bottom of the lake.

The air was thick with the pungent stench of blood; who knew how many had died here.

Not far from her, a pearl emanated a thick cloud of Demonic Qi. It was clearly what had dragged her down.

Before she could get a clear look at the pearl, a raspy voice echoed out. "Heheheh... I let you escape last time, but you’ve delivered yourself to my doorstep so soon?"

"You have such a delectable flavor. I won’t let you get away this time. I must have a taste!"

Lu Sangjiu sneered. "Just a remnant soul, and you think you can devour me?"

She had already discerned that the object before her was a high-quality Demon Soul Pearl, capable of housing the soul of a Demon Cultivator.

This ancient voice belonged to nothing more than a remnant soul, clinging to existence only by the grace of the Demon Soul Pearl.

Lu Sangjiu knew she was short on time. The man in black was most likely already heading back.

So, she didn’t waste any words, intent on a swift and decisive battle.

As the remnant soul’s power rushed toward her, she channeled Spiritual Energy with one hand and Demonic Qi with the other, unleashing her Immortal Demon Attraction!

"What? How is this possible?!"

The once-malicious, ancient voice was now filled with terror, as if it couldn’t believe someone could wield both Spiritual Energy and Demonic Qi.

But in the next moment, both his voice and the pearl were devoured by the force of the Immortal Demon Attraction.

The underground palace was too small. Despite putting as much distance as possible between herself and the pearl and raising all her defenses, Lu Sangjiu couldn’t avoid the backlash.

The shockwave slammed her body against a wall, sending her tumbling several meters. When she finally stopped, her head spun and her ears were ringing.

She opened her mouth and coughed up a large gout of blood.

Her vision swam with black spots, but she fought to stay conscious through sheer willpower.

Her eyes were fixed on the spot where the pearl had been. As the dust settled, she saw that it had been shattered into countless fragments.

’It worked!’

A look of triumph crossed Lu Sangjiu’s face, but before she could smile, the sinister, ancient voice whispered right in her ear.

"Damn you... You dared to destroy my Demon Soul Pearl! Then you will pay the debt with your body!"

Lu Sangjiu’s pupils shrank. Before she could even turn, she felt a foreign consciousness invade her Sea of Consciousness!

The voice erupted in a wild laugh. "HAHAHAHA! I was planning to nurture my remnant soul back to health before finding a suitable body, but I never imagined an Immortal Demon Dual Cultivator like you would deliver yourself right to my doorstep!"

"The heavens are truly on my side! HAHAHAHA—Ah, how can this be?!"

The ancient voice’s laughter cut off abruptly, replaced by sheer terror.

Lu Sangjiu’s voice echoed faintly. "Go on, laugh. Why did you stop? Are you just not the laughing type?"

The old man: !!!

’Of course he couldn’t laugh! His fist-sized Divine Soul had just run into a Divine Soul in her Sea of Consciousness that was bigger than his own head! How could he possibly laugh???’

Staring at the flickering Divine Soul Fire in the distance, the old man suddenly shrieked, "It’s you!"

Then he turned to flee!

Lu Sangjiu: ?

She froze for a moment. But after carefully extending her senses, she soon recognized him too. "Hm? So it was you..."

There was an odd note in her voice. But since he had delivered himself right to her, there was no way she would let him escape.

Moments later, Lu Sangjiu’s Divine Soul Fire blocked the old soul’s escape route and took a huge CHOMP.

"AHHHH!!!"

The old man let out a blood-curdling scream, struggling in vain.

This was Lu Sangjiu’s domain. If he hadn’t come barging in, he might have had a chance of survival. But now... heh, he could forget about getting out of here alive.

Lu Sangjiu’s voice echoed faintly. "You know, it’s been many years. I thought you were long dead. I never expected a sliver of your soul to have survived."

"Hmm... should I call you Old Monster Long, or Mo Long?"

That’s right, she recognized him. This was none other than the Body Integration Realm Demon Cultivator, Old Monster Long, whom she had killed all those years ago.

She’d even built her Moon Palace on the territory she’d seized from him. Qin Yu had even mistaken her residence for Mo Long’s back in the day.

’If it weren’t for Qin Yu, I might never have known his name was Mo Long...’

’Who would have thought... He died at my hands once while he was alive. Now, after his remnant soul lay dormant for so many years, on the very cusp of rebirth, he’s about to die at my hands again... Is this what they call fate?’

While marveling at this internally, Lu Sangjiu continued to take bite after bite of Mo Long’s remnant soul without the slightest hesitation.

Mo Long shrieked and wailed in pain, growing more and more frantic. "Gu Huang, why won’t you let me go?!"

"I’ll kill you! I’ll haunt you even as a ghost!"

"AHHH, IT HURTS! I’m begging you, please spare me! I don’t want to die!"

He seemed to have gone mad, seamlessly switching between hurling curses and begging for his life.

When he was down to his last breath, Lu Sangjiu let out a satisfied burp and paused.

"Well, you’re no threat to me now. How about you answer a few of my questions, and I might consider giving this last shred of your soul a way out."

Mo Long was now incredibly weak, his mind a complete mess. The moment he heard he might live, he was in no state to question her sincerity. He agreed at once.

"As long as you don’t kill me, I’ll tell you anything!"
