The Sky Was Never Young: Vampire System Apocalypse

"Aaghh...", Alissa made this sound with fear and scrunched her eyes after watching the report inject that syringe into his neck like he was killing himself. Cassian hugged her, covering her view of the television so she could be comfortable.

After a few seconds, Alissa gently pulled away from his hug and said, "Cass, I am fine... thank you so much for being with me", looking directly into his eyes with hope and love.

"I should thank you, and you are saying that to me... name a thing that I did to save you!" replied Cassian, putting his hands on her shoulders as he looked into her eyes.

"You came running to me even after you were about to die... what did you not do for me, Cass? Stop saying those things. I am safe because of y-", Alissa said this to Cassian with a serious, soft voice, but in the end she stopped as Cassian started speaking.

"I owe you! You fought with the vampires to save me, without thinking what could have happened to you, Alissa", said Cassian after stopping her sentence at the end.

"BREAKING NEWS LIVE FROM MY OWN HOUSE!" a voice came in the background (from the earlier news channel that was streaming on the television). Both Alissa and Cassian turned their heads to watch what it was.

"VERY WEIRD PANDEMIC-LIKE SITUATION IS GOING ON ALL OVER THE STATE. It’s weird to say, but it is confirmed from the sources; as you saw earlier, the live reporter, too, caught that disease! They are getting converted into non-human-like beings!" said the other reporter with a panicking voice, who came live from his own house on national television.

"I have to go..." said Alissa in a traumatized, lowered voice, her eyes glancing at the headline continuously. "Alissa! What happened? What are you saying?" With a concerned, frightened look, Cassian replied in a serious tone.

"My grandma- she... it was an open rural area; everyone lives together there," Alissa said this sentence with a straight face and serious tone. She was about to sit on the floor suddenly, as she was traumatized after listening to the news. Cassian held her halfway up in the air and gave her support when she was sitting, so she wouldn’t get hurt. He said, "Nothing will happen, Alissa. Your grandmother will be safe; she is too old and has experienced many difficulties in her life till now. She is smart enough to be safe right now!"

"She can’t even take care of herself... a needle hurts her more than anything! HOW CAN I NOT CARE ABOUT HER?" With a sudden, loud voice, Alissa said this to Cassian. "Alissa, calm down, please! We will do something," Cassian replied with a soft voice to calm her down while holding her hands. Alissa jerked off his hands and replied again with a loud tone, "WHAT WILL WE DO? DIE? STARVE HERE FOREVER? BE QUARANTINED FOREVER?"

Cassian had never seen Alissa behaving like this before, not even in the past. Even though she was the most popular student because she had fluent speaking skills, socializing ability, and was a student who got paid enough to live independently even from a part-time job, he had never seen her being immature and traumatized like this.

"Alissa, listen!" Cassian tried to speak, but he failed as Alissa walked away from there with a tear falling from one of her eyes.

He followed her and found her removing all the heavy materials from the main gate that she had placed there earlier for safety purposes. Cassian ran towards her to stop her and shouted, "Alissa, are you out of your mind? What are you trying to do even?!"

"Leave me!" replied Alissa, jerking his hands, which he had kept on her shoulder to stop her. "I SAID STOP IT!" In a rage, Cassian suddenly screamed this. After this, Alissa slowed herself from moving those heavy materials back, and tears started falling even more from her eyes.

"We both will die... try to understand", said Cassian in a lowered voice after watching Alissa’s reaction. "You will not! I never told you to come along... leave me, please, I beg!" said Alissa to Cassian.

Suddenly, Cassian knelt in front of her and held her feet. After that, with an urge, he said, "I Love You, Alissa. I am not sure about your intentions yet, but even if you were joking earlier... I really love you! I realized this very late. Confessed this very late, but if something happens to you now... I would die the worst death from the pain I will feel as a regretof losing you".

Alissa stopped completely from whatever she was doing and stood straight, unflinching, silent tears falling from her eyes. He added, "I had already lost my world in front of my eyes a few minutes ago, but guess what? It’s a miracle for me that I am still alive; it’s because you became my hope, Alissa. Don’t leave me alone, I beg!"

Alissa closed her eyes and quivered her chin; a large amount of tears dropped from her eyes. She sat right in that place and held Cassian’s hands, from which he had a grasp on her feet. She pulled his hands away gently from that grasp and tucked his face under her chin, in a position to give him a comforting hug. After that, she caressed his hair gently and then gave him a forehead kiss.

She started speaking softly to him in that position and said, "I wasn’t joking, even... I was really anxious when I confessed to you as you were closing your eyes. At first I thought it was just because I wanted you to keep your eyes open, so that you would be conscious and fine!"

She took a pause and added, "But the reality was that my heart shattered into pieces when I thought: What would happen if I were never able to see you again?... I too love you, Cassian. I do!"

Cassian was overwhelmed after he lost the important part of his life at once; he finally had a sense of security now, that there was no one but Alissa with him. "I know you want to save your grandmother. I told you earlier that I owe you a lot; for me, please let me help you. We will go out together, but after doing full preparation to fight this weird world", said Cassian, looking at her after raising his head, being in the earlier position.

With a concerned tear, she said softly with a seriousness in her tone, "How can I risk my own love’s life for my own reason? Cass!"

He made her stand with him and replied, "Babe, that’s our reason! Nothing would happen to Grandma... You were right; we will fight this world if necessary". Alissa looked into his eyes with trust and hope that gave her the motivation to fight together.

Cassian said, "Hurry up!" He ran towards the kitchen, picked up sharp tools, then ran to the storeroom, picked up more weapons for their safety, and brought them to Alissa. Alissa started to help him and got a big trekking rucksack.

Both of them started to pack the rucksack with the necessary items such as: weapons, food, water, a few pairs of clothes, and most importantly, the first aid kit. After they packed everything, one by one, they started to remove the heavy furniture she had kept earlier at the front of the main gate.

The banging on the main gate that those creatures had done stopped earlier and didn’t occur again for an hour. Cassian ordered Alissa to step back as he opened the door. As soon as he opened the door, a loud, cold wind hit their faces. The night sky was darker than before. The moon was a bit dimmer but outlined with a light purplish glow.

Cassian checked everything, then gestured to Alissa to come out. Alissa said, "Cassian, I can’t control it anymore! I can’t"

"What happened, babe? If you don’t want to go out, let’s be in for tonight. We will go tomorr-" Cassian turned around to look at Alissa while standing out of the main gate, and spoke this while looking at her. But he suddenly stopped at the end as Alissa gave him a sudden, tight hug and bit on his neck to drink his blood!

"Ali- Ssa- what- you-" said Cassian, fumbling, slowly closing his eyes from the betrayal and pain that he felt at that time after Alissa attacked him.
