The Smiling Death

Chapter 559: Some Interesting News

While Scarlett and Adelia talking near window.

Amon, Marcus, Eliana, Aisha, Seraphina, and Selena occupied the comfortable sofas arranged around a low wooden table.

The conversation around the table in had barely settled when Eliana suddenly leaned forward, a mischievous smile spreading across her face.

"Amon, do you want to hear some interesting news?"

Amon, who had been peacefully enjoying his meal, immediately looked at her with curiosity.

"What news, Eliana?"

Her smile only widened. That expression alone told him she was about to reveal something entertaining.

Even Aisha and Seraphina turned their attention toward the elf, curious to see what she was planning.

Eliana glanced across the table.

"You know our dear friend Marcus?"

Amon raised an eyebrow.

"Obviously."

"Well..." Eliana deliberately dragged out the word. "I recently found out that Marcus might be getting a fiancée."

Amon froze.

Marcus nearly choked on his wine.

"What the—?!"

He slammed his cup onto the table and glared at Eliana, his face instantly turning red.

"Eliana! I specifically told you not to tell Amon!"

He pointed accusingly at her.

"Anyone but Amon!"

Eliana covered her mouth, trying to suppress her laughter.

Amon slowly turned his head toward Marcus. His expression was one of absolute disbelief.

"Marcus..."

Marcus immediately looked away.

"Is that true?"

"..."

"Marcus?"

"Shut up!"

Amon’s eyes widened.

"IT’S TRUE?!"

Marcus groaned and covered his face with one hand.

Amon quickly looked toward Aisha and Seraphina. Neither seemed particularly surprised. His eyes narrowed suspiciously.

"Wait a damn minute."

He pointed between them.

"You two already knew about this?"

Seraphina nodded calmly.

"He received a call from his family this afternoon while we were having lunch."

She was sitting beside Amon and continued matter-of-factly,

"You weren’t with us because you were here spending time with Sister Scarlett. We asked Marcus about the call, and eventually he told us."

Aisha grinned, her black wolf ears with their distinctive red streaks twitching in amusement.

"He also specifically told us not to tell you."

Amon’s mouth fell open. He slowly turned toward Marcus. His expression changed from surprise to utter betrayal.

"Marcus...Oh, for God’s sake... I thought you were my best friend."

Marcus’s eyebrow twitched.

"Since when?"

Amon ignored him. He placed a hand over his chest.

"How could you hide something this important from me?"

"Why?!"

Marcus finally snapped.

"You damn well know why!"

He pointed at Amon.

"If I’d told you, you would’ve spent the next several days teasing me about getting a lover or wife!"

Amon stared at him. Then his eyes suddenly lit up.

"Dammit!"

Marcus immediately regretted everything.

Amon shot to his feet.

"This is incredible!"

Everyone turned toward him. They knew Amon was going to say something weird and funny.

"A romance story blooming between two young nobles brought together through an arranged marriage decided by their families!"

His excitement continued growing.

"They probably barely know each other! Maybe they’ll hate each other at first! Then they’ll slowly start understanding each other!"

Amon clenched his fist enthusiastically.

"Then comes the awkward romance!"

He slammed his palms onto the table.

"This is peak!"

The writer inside Amon had awakened. He couldn’t believe that his best friend was going to experience a romance of this level in his life.

Marcus’s face darkened.

"This bastard..."

He looked at Eliana furiously.

"This! This is exactly why I didn’t want you to tell him!" He was now very angry. he should have never believe in this elf princess.

"Hehe~"

Eliana seemed quite pleased with the result.

"He’s not entirely wrong. It does sound interesting."

Selena, who had been quietly eating until now, finally joined the conversation. A small smile appeared on the princess’s face.

"I agree. I’m rather curious myself."

"See?!"

Amon immediately pointed toward Selena.

"Senior understands!"

Eliana laughed.

"Hahaha! I think the same."

Marcus looked around the table in disbelief. "Why is everyone treating my future marriage like some romance novel?"

Amon completely ignored his suffering. Instead, he leaned across the table eagerly.

"So, Marcus..."

Marcus’s expression immediately became wary.

"What?"

"Who is the lucky lady?"

"None of your business."

"Come on!"

"No."

"What’s her name?"

"No."

"Is she beautiful?"

"Shut up."

"Have you met her before?"

"Amon!"

Aisha burst into laughter. Even Adelia was smiling at the exchange while Scarlett quietly watched Amon torment his friend, despite they were standing away.

Seraphina eventually decided to rescue Marcus.

"It’s not officially decided yet."

Amon looked toward her.

"His family is still discussing the engagement with the other family," Seraphina explained. "But the girl is a student at our academy."

Amon’s interest immediately doubled.

"She’s at Arcadia?!"

"Yes. She’s a second-year student like us, though she’s in another class."

Seraphina thought for a moment.

"I can show her to you once we’re back at the academy. Although I believe she’s currently away on a mission, so you’ll have to wait until she returns."

Amon slowly nodded.

"I see..."

He finally sat back down. For several seconds, he remained strangely quiet.

Marcus cautiously looked at him.

Then Amon smiled. It was the kind of smile that immediately made Marcus nervous.

"Marcus." He called her with confidence.

"What now?" Marcus got irritated by his voice.

Amon placed a hand proudly against his chest.

"If you ever need advice about women or relationships..."

He gave Marcus a confident thumbs-up.

"...you can always ask me."

Silence.

Marcus stared at him. Then he glanced toward Scarlett standing near the window, then back to Amon.

"Tch."

He turned his face away, but the slight redness creeping across his cheeks betrayed his embarrassment.

"I’d rather die single, bastard. But won’t ask advice from you."

"Pfft—"

Eliana burst out laughing.

Aisha followed immediately, and even Seraphina let out a soft giggle. Selena shook her head with an amused smile.

Amon, meanwhile, looked immensely satisfied for his friend.

"Now it’s time for my wolf and me to dance!!" Amon stood up. "Let me show you how to dance with you girl, Marcus."

"The hell? Why me, you bastard!!" Aisha rebuked immediately.

While Marcus sighed, as his suffering had only just begun.
