Chapter 73: 73. Baron Viero
Baron Viero is a powerful man who earned his noble title through his exploits as a knight of extraordinary strength. He possesses A-rank swordsmanship, A-rank physical strength, and A-rank fire magic.
This man enjoys seducing young women, only to discard them—or even kill them—once they grow older. To him, any woman over the age of 25 is already considered old.
The baron has children from a marriage that took place before he became a baron. Immediately after attaining his title, he killed his wife and began behaving wickedly.
No one has been able to stand up to him, which is why his crimes have gone undetected all this time. Those who intended to report him were terrified, fearing for the safety of their families and even for their own lives.
That is why, tonight, he intends to carry out his depraved act. Of course, his targets are the two noble daughters staying at his residence.
Seeing that there were only a few guards for two noble daughters as beautiful as them made Baron Viero feel arrogant. He was convinced that getting rid of the others was unimportant. Of course, the ones he would eliminate were Kaileon, Jo, and Nathan. Because Jeny, Peoni, and one of Jessica’s maids named Mari were all incredibly beautiful. They were the perfect additions to his collection for a night of pleasure.
It had been a long time since he’d had fun with young girls like them.
"How could Duke Arslan have provided such minimal security... hahaha, if this is the case, I’ll be satisfied tonight. Then afterward, I’ll kill them all so no one finds out," muttered Baron Viero, grinning widely as he imagined the evil thoughts that always lurked in his mind.
The man looked at the small, luxurious house he had deliberately provided for his guests. It was a house he usually used as a trap, since it was located in a secluded spot where no one could hear anything. So, no one would come to their aid. Besides, who could possibly defeat Baron Viero? No one.
That’s what the man thought.
Laughing gleefully, the man kicked open the front door. He found Jo standing there, as if he were waiting to greet him.
The man burst out laughing, then said,
"Step aside if you don’t want your bones crushed—here’s the deal: how about you just hand over those beautiful girls, and I’ll spare you and let you go," said the man.
Jo remained silent, standing there, staring at Baron Viero with his dark, piercing eyes.
"Hey, aren’t you listening to me? I said—"
Suddenly, Jo lifted the man off his feet and hurled him with such force that he slammed into a large pine tree. The tree immediately toppled over upon impact with Baron Viero’s powerful body.
Not only was the man in pain, but he was also utterly shocked, because no one had ever been able to lift or throw him before.
That was when almost everyone arrived, except for Jessica and Mari.
"What happened?" Kai asked, even though he already knew that Baron Viero was the cause of the commotion.
After getting back to his feet, Baron Viero snorted, then walked back toward them.
He thought it was all just a coincidence, because he’d let his guard down.
"What have you done? Jo wouldn’t have attacked if you hadn’t done something—"
"SHUT UP!" Not letting Kai finish his sentence, the man immediately attacked, casting a fire arrow spell that would only strike the people he intended to target. It was a high-level spell that wasn’t easy to block.
However, before the magic could even touch them, it suddenly vanished.
"WHAT IS THIS? WHY—" Baron Viero hadn’t even finished shouting when a dagger was suddenly hurled at him. In fact, even Baron Viero—who was accustomed to the battlefield and always on guard—didn’t see where the dagger was coming from. It shot forward at lightning speed, slipping from between Kaileon’s small fingers and embedding itself in Baron Viero’s upper right arm.
At that moment, Baron Viero fell silent; his tongue tied, his eyes wide with disbelief.
How could such a small, weak, and seemingly harmless young man manage to wound him?
It made no sense.
Kai walked casually toward Baron Viero. Only then did Baron Viero realize that the dagger that had wounded his arm was no ordinary dagger—it was laced with poison. More precisely, it contained a substance that rendered anyone who came into contact with it completely immobile. Like a statue.
"I am Kaileon Arslan, someone you underestimated because I look weak and am not a woman. Why? Does it hurt? I got that poison from this house, you know it yourself... I found it by accident because I had to cook in the kitchen. It’s a poison that works slowly, destroying the inside of your body—it feels like a burning, stinging pain. I’m curious... what were you doing that led to a poison like that being here? What did you do with that poison? Oh—I forgot you can’t speak. It’s okay; let all the servants and residents here speak for you."
Hearing all that, Baron Viero’s eyes bulged so much his eyeballs nearly popped out.
What was he facing right now? A frail young man named Kaileon Arslan?
Oh wait, that cruel gaze was so similar to Duke Arslan’s.
How could his greed have blinded him so?
Because of his stupidity, he’d forgotten who Duke Arslan was. There was no way that man would provide such a meager, seemingly weak escort without a reason.
Kai was already standing in front of Baron Viero, forcibly taking his knife. Blood gushed from the man’s upper right arm.
"Usually, I don’t like roundabout ways of killing people, but I’ll heal you now so you can be tortured in Arslan’s prison alongside the monsters I’ve captured. And don’t forget what a father’s rage is like when he hears his children are about to be harmed," Kaileon said again.
Then Kai cast a few spells to restore the man’s ability to speak.
"You bastard!" the man shouted, realizing that only his mouth could move—not the rest of his body.
Bang!
Kai punched the man in the jaw, sending him crashing to the ground. He lay there pitifully, unable to move his legs to escape.
"Actually, I’d like to torture you even more than this, but I’ll just hand you over to my father. I’ll go get him right now."
After that, something extraordinary happened—something Baron Viero had never imagined.
Kai vanished for a few seconds, then returned with Duke Arslan.
***
Kai looked up at the overcast sky this morning. It looked like it was about to rain.
That meant the journey might have to be postponed until the rain stopped, or Kai would have to find another solution because it could start raining at any moment—even if the sky was clear, with no signs of rain.
While soaking in the hot spring bath typical of the Viero region, Kai reflected once more on the events of the previous night.
Duke Arslan and Keith were currently in the Viero region.
According to both of them, it was clear that the man would be stripped of his title and his territory would be returned to the kingdom. Or perhaps it would be handed over to Arslan.
The decision rested with the King.
Suddenly, in the midst of his deep thoughts, Kai sensed someone approaching and then joining him in the hot spring.
"Kaileon," called Hendry.
Kai startled and turned to look at his father, who was smiling faintly.
"Father, I’m sorry for causing you trouble," said Kai.
The Duke laughed upon hearing this, "Hahaha, what are you talking about? You’ve actually been a huge help, because now we finally have clear evidence and a solid reason to arrest that man. He’s been so cunning all this time. Whenever there was an investigation, he always managed to escape the charges. Plus, he’s incredibly strong—almost on par with me—so the investigation became difficult. Meanwhile, I’ve always been busy... but I’m glad, because I’m finally confident enough to let you and Jessica go with this small group. You two are so strong—even an entire royal military unit is no match for your strength."
Kai wasn’t particularly pleased to hear his father’s praise; he let out a heavy sigh, then said.
"You’re overreacting, father... I don’t think he’s that strong. The proof is that he froze the moment he was poisoned. I thought he’d put up a fight, and there’d be an exciting brawl. I was actually ready to beat him up. But now I’m not in the mood anymore— i’ll let you handle him."
"Even if he’s not that strong for you, you still shouldn’t get cocky... because eventually you’ll find an opponent who’s your equal. Like that demon prince... but I’m not sure he’ll actually be able to fight you head-on," replied Duke.
Kai shrugged, "I don’t know, but he keeps hiding from me. He always fights me through other people or monsters. By the way, what about Leo?"
"Oh, that kid? I think there’s a reason why the demon prince chose him—because he really does have great potential. He might end up being like Keith or even surpassing Keith someday."
