Chapter 75: 75. The protective dome
Angeline was just like any other girl—easily moved and emotional after reading a fictional story, the kind that’s usually written in an exaggerated style.
"It’s okay, Angel. It’s normal to feel emotional after reading a novel."
After that, the atmosphere suddenly fell silent. Kai and Angel just gazed into each other’s eyes, lost in each other’s charm. Until suddenly, Angeline blurted out.
"Kai, kiss me now," whispered Angeline, wrapping her arms around Kai’s neck.
Kai pulled her close by the waist, then kissed her lips, pressing his lips against hers gently and passionately.
Following his instincts and the urges of a teenager whose hormones were raging, Kai moved his kisses down toward her neck, trying not to leave a hickey on her pale skin. The kisses continued down the lower part of Angeline’s neck until they reached her chest.
"Kai... that tickles," the girl moaned, making Kai even more eager to continue kissing her.
But their activity had to stop when they heard a loud knock on the door.
"Kai! I’ve got an idea to keep our trip going even though it’s raining. Hey! Hurry up and open the door!"
Jessica’s shout made them both panic, and they quickly pulled away from each other.
Kai hurriedly opened the bedroom door after making sure his appearance wasn’t disheveled and his expression didn’t look suspicious.
"Jessica—"
Before Kai could even finish speaking, Jessica had already pushed past him and stepped into the room. When she saw Angeline sitting there awkwardly, she grew suspicious.
"The two of you were in the room, and it took you a while to open the door... this is really suspicious. You must have been up to something in here, right?" Jessica said, flashing her mischievous grin.
"Forget about that. Just tell me what idea you were going to share earlier," Kai asked.
Jessica chuckled smugly, because it was clear that the two of them were hiding something embarrassing.
"Alright, I know you’re hiding something, but let’s just forget about it. So, my idea is to make use of your protective circle, Kaileon... you know magic is flexible; you might be able to do that too. Like creating a barrier that can move, then blocking the water from entering the barrier."
Jessica’s suggestion was something Kai had never even considered before, but he could picture it right away.
Kai might be able to create a protective dome using a concept similar to an umbrella.
"I’ll try it now," said Kai.
The three of them stepped outside, stopping just at the front porch so they wouldn’t get wet from the rain.
Kai then tried the protective magic Duke had taught him. He created a sort of large dome around the house, adding a water-repellent layer to the surface of the protective dome.
It worked.
Kai himself couldn’t believe he’d managed to do it so quickly. Usually, it took him some time to master a new spell.
[Aery will answer the question you’re asking in your heart]
[Your spell worked so quickly because your clear image of the protective concept is what made it succeed so fast]
[You imagined a dome that works like an umbrella, and you created a protective dome just as you imagined it]
Kai smiled, feeling proud of his own ability.
It turned out that Keith and Duke were right—it was the imagination or mental image in his head while casting the spell that made it more effective.
Kai walked away from the house until he was a good distance away.
The protective dome he’d created moved with him, and the rain began to pour down on the house once more.
Kai walked back toward the porch, where Jessica and Angeline were cheering at his surprising success.
"Since we’ve found a way to keep going even when it rains, I think we can leave this afternoon," Kai said.
Jessica nodded enthusiastically. "I’ll tell Nathan and Mari," she exclaimed before running back into the house.
"I’ll tell Jeny and Peoni. I also want to see Ana and apologize," said Angeline.
But before she could walk away, Kai grabbed her arm.
"Angel, next time I’ll be more careful around other girls," Kai said.
Angeline smiled, then leaned in to kiss Kai on the cheek.
"Of course, I trust you, Kai."

The journey continued.
Although the heavy rain was still pouring down, the carriage, horses, and their clothes remained dry and safe. The roads, however, had become even muddier than before.
[Are you willing to take on a new mission, master?]
Suddenly, the system screen appeared in front of Kai, who was sitting next to Jo, who was driving the horse-drawn carriage. At that moment, it was Jeny and Nathan’s turn to ride on horseback in front of and behind the carriage.
After Kai nodded to confirm the system’s question, the system screen changed again.
[You can obtain a new ability by defeating the giant red bear located about one kilometer from here.]
[The new ability will be selected at random after you complete your mission.]
[You can ask Jo, the servant who has a contract with you, to defeat it if you don’t want to do it yourself.]
Kai turned to Jo, who still looked relaxed.
"What’s the matter, young master?" asked Jo, who had become much more attuned to Kai since entering into a contract with him.
Kai shook his head. "Nothing. It’s just that there’s a huge red bear up ahead, about one kilometer away. You don’t need to fight that bear—I’ll handle it."
Jo furrowed his brow, "A bear? I don’t sense any bear— Oh! I suddenly sense it, young master."
Then, Kai called out to Jeny, who was riding her horse in front of the carriage.
Once Jeny and her horse were beside the carriage, Kai explained that there was a bear up ahead. However, he told her not to panic, since he would handle it himself.
Kai ordered Jeny to switch places with him.
Jeny dismounted, letting Kai take her place on the horse.
That was when Nathan asked them what was going on, and Jo explained the situation while Kai mounted the horse, preparing to fight the bear.
"But this is very risky, young master. What if you and Jo attack it together?" Nathan pleaded, his panicked expression making Kai chuckle softly.
"Nathan, don’t worry. It’s just one bear. Haven’t I fought a bear before?" Kai said, then spurred his horse into a gallop in search of the bear.
At that moment, they all witnessed the protective dome suddenly split in two.
Kai had cast yet another protective spell after previously creating a water-resistant protective dome.
"Wait a minute, when did the young master fight a bear? Did I miss something?" Nathan asked, confused.
"No, Nathan. The young master is referring to Baron Viero," Jeny replied.
Nathan burst out laughing upon hearing that.
Indeed, the large red bear Kai about to face right now has abilities nearly on par with Baron Viero’s: A-rank strength and A-rank fire magic.
Meanwhile, Kai, who was riding his horse at a moderate speed, was now near the bear.
Kai stopped a hundred meters away from the bear and tied his horse to a large hydrangea tree in full bloom with purple and pink flowers.
Afterward, he ran toward the bear.
It turned out the bear was fighting three adventurers who had been cornered.
As he ran at full speed, Kai cast a water blade spell at the bear, successfully striking its arms, legs, and stomach.
Then Kai cast a small protective dome around the three adventurers, who were already exhausted and severely wounded.
With that protective dome, the bear couldn’t attack the three adventurers. The bear went berserk and unleashed its fire magic, trying to burn through the protective dome. But the fire magic vanished the moment it touched the protective dome.
Kai smiled broadly, proud of his new magical creation that combined protective magic with water magic, making the dome fireproof.
Kai had already thought of all this after learning that the red bear possessed A-level fire magic.
Kai’s small body leaped high into the air, landing on the bear’s back.
The bear went berserk, its sharp claws reaching out to grab Kai on its back. But it failed, and the bear growled in frustration.
Not wanting to let the bear rage for too long, Kai immediately slashed at the bear’s neck with his water blade.
The bear’s body simply collapsed.
Kai examined the bear’s body and discovered that it shared the same pattern as the other monsters: the influence of black magic.
Kai was certain that the demon prince was nearby, but he couldn’t pinpoint the demon prince’s exact location.
[Perhaps you should improve your detection magic, young master.]
Kai had actually already considered Aery’s suggestion. It’s just that he couldn’t do it yet, especially while he was focused on the journey to the empire.
By the time Nathan’s group and the others arrived, Kai was treating the three adventurers.
"How could they have been attacked by a monster that doesn’t even like to leave its den? I’m sure this bear’s den is deep in the forest—that’s usually how it is. Am I right, Jo?" said Jessica, who was watching Nathan and Jeny finish off the monster whose head had already been severed.
"You’re right, young lady, but this red bear seems to have been affected by black magic," said Jo.
Jessica then turned to Kaileon, who was almost finished treating the adventurers.
There was one piece of information about the demon prince that Jessica hadn’t shared with Kai yet, for fear that Kai would tell their father.
It turned out that the Duchess and the demon prince were in a romantic relationship. You could say the prince was the Duchess’s lover.
Jessica didn’t want to be selfish, but she wasn’t ready to tell Kai yet either.
