Chapter 81. Ricky’s uncle

Chapter 81: 81. Ricky’s uncle

"Let’s sit down first, young master."

The man who owned the slave market invited Kai to sit on a large sofa.

Kai then invited Ricky to sit down as well, while Jo stood behind them, keeping watch.

The man didn’t say anything about Ricky sitting there; he remained relaxed as he poured drinks for Kai and Ricky.

The drink was chocolate, with a fairly strong cinnamon aroma, and unexpectedly, it was cold.

"This is a drink called cocoa, made from cocoa beans grown in my own garden. Oh, I haven’t introduced myself yet. My name is Lucas Knightley; I’m a distant relative of the owner of this estate. You could say I’m a cousin of the late Viscount Knightley—the youngest one, in fact—and yes, my family does deal in slaves. We’re also the ones who ensure there’s no fraud in the slave trade around here. After all, there are plenty of people with bad intentions when it comes to buying slaves. Usually, during times of war or when a region is under attack, many slaves are brought here to be cared for. That’s the case with these children as well. They come from a distant region. They were brought by a mysterious figure—a person wearing a black hooded cloak who kept his face completely hidden. At first, the children were very young; some of them were still baby. I once thought that person might be a demon, but I couldn’t prove it. He asked for a few gold coins, and I gave them to him without asking too many questions. Then... after I and several women assigned to care for the children had tended to all of them, we realized something was off. It turned out that all those babies were descendants of fairies and elves, hailing from a remote village deep in the forest. I once brought in an expert to identify the children, but they vehemently refused. It wasn’t until several years later, when they were older, that they revealed something to me—something that made me realize they were a race of fairies whose ancestors had been slaughtered by demons. The fairies had then sealed away their powers, transforming them into weak, ordinary humans. The demon who brought the children here was a benevolent one, helping them avoid capture by the other demons. It was also from these children that I learned you possess the fairy king’s ring. I never expected to find that ring on you, young master Kaileon Arslan... I recognized you because I once watched your first hunt alongside the Duke—it was truly impressive."

Hearing the man’s explanation, Lucas, Kai turned his attention back to the fairy children. Some of them were staring at Kai with curious expressions, while others were still happily playing.

Kai smiled at them, and they seemed pleased by his gesture.

Kai turned back to Lucas, the man who turned out to be a nobleman after all. Judging by his build, Lucas was one of the nobles who had participated in that hunt. It was clear he was strong, with an athletic physique.

"So, what do you want from me right now? Do you want me to buy them all?" Kai asked.

Lucas nodded, "Yes, all of them. I know how valuable fairies are—they’re already extremely rare. I’ve also heard that your mother is one of the remaining fairy descendants, making you the only fairy descendant today. But who would’ve thought that I actually have those fairy children? I’m not strong enough to keep them safe here all the time, because greedy people will surely come and threaten me. It’s not that I want to pass the responsibility onto you, but I’m sure there’s a reason why you’re the one who has the fairy king’s ring—isn’t that right?"

Kai chuckled, then took a sip of the drink called cocoa.

"We have something like this back home too, but we make it into a bar—we call it a chocolate bar. Do you have anything like that, Lucas?" Kai asked.

Lucas furrowed his brow, straightened his back, and with sparkling eyes, he replied.

"You mean you know how to process cacao beans into a bar?"

Kai grinned, pleased to see how enthusiastic Lucas was. So he took out a bar of dark chocolate and showed it to Lucas.

"Like this—go ahead, open it and eat it," said Kai.

Lucas was initially confused about how to open it, so Ricky helped him.

"Wow, thank you, my nephew... this looks so luxurious," said Lucas.

"Wait a minute—" Kai stopped Lucas just as he was about to take a bite of the chocolate.

"Do you know that Ricky is your nephew?"

Lucas smiled broadly and nodded. "Yeah, of course—his father is so proud of him that he often shows me the portrait of his son. You’re Ricky Knightley, right? I thought you were so sick that you never left the castle; I was even worried you might have died. Whenever I asked your older sister—who’s now the Viscountess Knightley—about you, she’d always get angry and threaten me. I think I’m the only one who knows Ricky even exists."

Lucas’s response made Ricky very happy. Finally, Ricky told Lucas who he really was, and Lucas felt sorry for him.

"The plan is for us to go to the castle and reveal who Ricky is there, Lucas," said Kai.

Lucas shook his head, "No, I’m really worried about Ricky... he’s always been locked up in that castle, young Master Kaileon."

"You’re too kind, Lucas... my father has already agreed to my plan, and I hope you’ll support me. After that, we can discuss our partnership. "I know you’re interested in making these chocolate bars, right? You just have to heat them up, and the chocolate melts and can be used for drinks, cakes, and other things. I can trade that information for taking care of those fairy children," said Kai.

Lucas let out a long, heavy sigh, then laughed. He didn’t speak until he had stopped laughing.

"All right, young master, I’ll certainly support my nephew, but is Ricky really willing to do this? I mean... after his older sister was arrested and put on trial, he has to learn to be a leader in this region. Are you ready, Ricky?" Lucas’s words made Ricky realize what would happen if his sister were arrested.

Someone would have to take over that position there.

"I think it can be postponed, because Ricky has a lot to learn... I think you’re better suited to teach him, Lucas."

Lucas was taken aback by this; he began to panic.

"Oh? Me? Hahaha, no, I’m not qualified for that... I’m just—"

"You’re his uncle, and you were closer to his father in the past, too. You know the most about it, don’t you? I’ll teach you a lot about how to process chocolate, Lucas... since you have a cacao farm, you’ll definitely need information from me."

Lucas laughed at this, "Goodness, you’re very good at convincing me, young master... all right, all right, I give in. I’ll support you both. So, what should we do starting now?"
