The Supreme Village Doctor

Chapter 51 - 52: Refusing the Invitation

Chapter 51: Chapter 52: Refusing the Invitation

When Li Yang arrived at the restaurant, he had to laugh. It was Hidden Dragon Manor again.

Upon his arrival, the proprietress was surprised to see Li Yang and gave him a thumbs-up.

’What’s that supposed to mean? I have no intention of hitting on this beautiful woman.’

Li Yang, however, let his gaze drift down to the proprietress’s chest and chuckled.

The proprietress glared at him.

They went into a private room, and Zhao Xuechu began to order.

After ordering, Zhao Xuechu asked with a smile, "Do you know what this restaurant’s specialty is?"

"I do. I’ve eaten here once. It’s their wild onions; they’re pretty unique."

Zhao Xuechu nodded. "That’s right. They’re unique to this place, which is why their business is still so good—they’re irreplaceable. By the way, let’s have a formal introduction. I’m Zhao Xuechu, and I’m also the owner of Xue Chu Medicine Cuisine."

’Medicinal cuisine?’

Li Yang raised an eyebrow.

"I’m preparing to open a medicinal cuisine restaurant!" Zhao Xuechu said, looking at Li Yang. "I’ve done some research on the subject, but after seeing you in action today, I was very impressed. You could tell what that manager had eaten with just one look and even figured out the food combination was bad. Have you studied medicinal cuisine?"

Li Yang understood. ’So she was trying to sound me out.’

"I’ve... done some research, I guess." ’In fact, the Medical Codex actually had quite a few recipes for medicinal cuisine.’

"Really?" Zhao Xuechu grew excited. "You said you’re a doctor?"

"Miss Zhao, are you looking to bring me on as a partner?" Li Yang asked with a grin.

Zhao Xuechu froze for a moment, then shook her head.

’You might be skilled, but you’re not at the level where you could be my partner... not yet.’

Li Yang wasn’t surprised. ’We’ve only just met, of course that’s impossible.’ He was only teasing, after all.

"However, if you really have studied this, I could hire you as our restaurant’s medicinal cuisine specialist... or as a consultant," Zhao Xuechu said, revealing her true intention.

"Sorry, I’m not interested." Li Yang shook his head, refusing.

"Ten thousand a month," Zhao Xuechu offered.

’That’s a very generous offer. Judging by the village doctor’s plain clothes, he’s clearly not a wealthy man.’

’He’ll definitely be tempted by ten thousand.’

To her surprise, Li Yang refused again without even thinking about it. "Miss Zhao, I’m sorry, but I’m just not interested. You should find someone else."

Zhao Xuechu stared at Li Yang in astonishment. "Why not?"

"I don’t want to work for someone else!" Li Yang said with a shrug, as if it were the most natural thing in the world. "It’s that simple."

Zhao Xuechu was rendered speechless. What else could she say when he flat-out told her he didn’t want to work for someone?

"There’s no need to refuse so quickly..." Zhao Xuechu tried to persist.

But Li Yang cut her off without a second thought. "Miss Zhao, I’m really not interested. I have too much going on in my village. I don’t have time to be a consultant."

There was no point in pressing the matter further.

In any case, Li Yang had helped her out of a tight spot, so Zhao Xuechu didn’t press him. She just nodded. "I understand!"

When the food arrived, Li Yang, who was starving, began to wolf it down.

Zhao Xuechu only managed a couple of bites before losing her appetite.

Just then, her phone rang.

She glanced at the screen. "Excuse me, I have something to take care of, so I’ll be leaving first. Please, enjoy your meal. I’ll go pay the bill."

"Oh, I couldn’t let you do that..." Li Yang said.

Zhao Xuechu smiled faintly. "Consider it my way of thanking you for helping me out today."

And with that, she was gone.

’If you’re not eating, I will!’

Not long after Zhao Xuechu left, the proprietress walked in.

"What’s with you?" the proprietress said, clucking her tongue. "You were eating with such a gorgeous lady, and she left first. Are you just not up to the task?"

Li Yang nearly choked. He retorted irritably, "Proprietress, stop spouting nonsense. Have you already forgotten how you couldn’t get out of bed for two hours last night?"

"You little brat!" Even a seasoned flirt like the proprietress couldn’t take that, and her face turned slightly red. "You say that as if we’ve actually slept together."

Having won that exchange, Li Yang just chuckled and fell silent.

"Let me ask you, you followed Lao Xu, right?" the proprietress began. "How’d it go? Did you find his spot?"

"Found it," Li Yang said while still eating.

"Really?" The proprietress grew very excited and slapped the table. "Where? Take me there! That damned Lao Xu, always trying to use this to threaten me into bed. Now let’s see what he does."

"It’s no use," Li Yang said, shaking his head. "Are you going to go fight him for what’s left? From what I saw, he’s already picked the patch nearly clean. He won’t have to threaten anyone; soon, he won’t be able to harvest much himself."

"What?" The proprietress began to panic. "Then what are we going to do? Most of my customers come here specifically for the wild onions. If I run out..."

’Needless to say, business would plummet.’

"That’s not a complicated problem," Li Yang said with a smug smile. "I happen to have a solution."

"What kind of solution?" The proprietress’s spirits lifted, and she asked excitedly.

But Li Yang just kept glancing at her impressive chest.

"You’re no saint, you little brat!" the proprietress huffed, exasperated.

Li Yang chuckled. ’But this proprietress really is a looker, with a seductive, foxy charm.’ "Proprietress, you can’t expect the donkey to turn the grindstone if you don’t let it drink its milk..."
