Chapter 52: Chapter 53: Lao Xu’s Idea
"You brat, stop talking such nonsense!" The owner felt she couldn’t take his cheeky comments anymore. She didn’t know whether to laugh or cry, being teased like this by someone so young. "If you help me solve this problem, I’ll tell you a secret."
A secret?
’What kind of secret could it be!’
Li Yang’s eyes suddenly lit up. "Let’s hear it."
"Didn’t you ask me to keep an eye out for your friend’s stepmom and her other man? Well, I found him. It happened just last night, and I have photos!" the owner said smugly.
"Whoa, you’re amazing!" Li Yang gave her a thumbs-up and said urgently, "So? Tell me about it!"
"First, tell me how you’re going to solve my wild onion problem," the owner asked, blinking her pretty eyes.
"I’ve already collected the bulbils!" Li Yang said patiently. "Right now, I’m ’sowing’ them..."
As he spoke, Li Yang suddenly glanced toward the owner’s lower body.
The owner was about to lose it.
Li Yang chuckled mischievously, then continued, "They should sprout. Once they do, I’ll plant them, and then I’ll be able to give you a stable, long-term supply."
"But from what I know, those wild onions have to be wild. They’re extremely picky about their environment. You can’t just grow them anywhere," the owner said, a little worried.
Li Yang chuckled. "Have you forgotten what kind of person I am?"
The owner froze for a moment, then it suddenly dawned on her.
’That’s right. Li Yang is the person who can grow the kind of top-tier vegetables supplied to the Golden Pavilion Hotel.’
’With someone like him, what the hell do I have to worry about?’
At this thought, she let out a charming giggle. "I almost forgot you had that kind of talent, kiddo. Now I’m relieved."
"So, the photos?" Li Yang asked curiously.
"Here!" The owner took out her phone. "Add me on WeChat. I’ll send them to you."
"Okay!"
In a few moments, they had added each other, and Li Yang saw several pictures come through from her.
The first few were shots from behind. From that angle, it really did look like Qin Susu’s stepmom holding hands with another man.
But he couldn’t be sure just from their backs.
In the last photo, however, both of their faces were visible.
Yep, it was her—Qin Susu’s still-charming stepmother.
’I can’t believe it... She’s really cheating on Qin Gang.’
But when he thought of Qin Susu’s dad, Li Yang recalled he didn’t have a very good impression of him, either.
"Thanks a lot!" Li Yang said with a grin.
"You’re a pretty good friend," the owner said, as if she knew what he was thinking. "Hoping to win some leverage for her?"
Li Yang thought for a moment. ’That girl, Qin Susu, had definitely seemed to have it in for me before. But I could tell she wasn’t a bad person at heart. And after the things we’ve been through together, I get the feeling she doesn’t see me that way anymore.’
’In fact, she seems a lot friendlier now.’
"We’ll see. Right now, I’m just satisfying my curiosity." And he really was just curious. As for whether he would actually use this to help Qin Susu, Li Yang honestly didn’t know yet.
"Alright, but don’t say you got it from me. I just run a restaurant; I can’t afford to get on their bad side!" the owner warned.
"Don’t worry," Li Yang said, shaking his head. "I wouldn’t dream of selling you out."
The owner felt a little pleased. ’This kid seems a bit wild, but he’s actually a good person.’
"Alright, you go on and eat. I feel better hearing you say that..."
Just as she was speaking, the door swung open with a CREAK.
Lao Xu strode in. "I’m telling you, ma’am, what’s the big idea, dodging me every day? Come on, there’s no one else here. Let’s hurry up and... resolve this..."
"Lao Xu, what nonsense are you talking about?" The owner was getting angry now and shot him a glare. "There’s a kid present!"
’A kid...’
Li Yang thought weakly, ’I’m really not a kid.’
"Don’t tell me you’ve fallen for this pretty boy?" Lao Xu’s gaze landed on Li Yang, and his expression soured. "What, you think I’m too old?"
’It’s not just that you’re old. You’re ugly, you have no class, and you can’t even tell a good dirty joke,’ Li Yang silently roasted him.
The owner couldn’t afford to offend Lao Xu, so she kept signaling to Li Yang with her eyes.
Li Yang gave a mischievous chuckle, stood up, and said, "Look, Lao Xu, I’m better-looking than you and younger than you. Would it be so strange for her to fall for me?"
Lao Xu was stunned, realizing he had no comeback.
"I..." His face instantly flushed red. "If you don’t... cooperate with me, I’ll... I’ll sell the wild onions to someone else! We’ll see how you stay in business then!"
This was his ultimate threat.
The owner panicked.
Li Yang’s brows furrowed.
His own back-and-forth with the owner was just playful banter; he was just teasing her. He’d never actually try to force her into anything.
But this Lao Xu was dead serious. He was crossing the line.
"Lao Xu," Li Yang said, a sly idea forming in his mind, "it’s not that she doesn’t want to be with you. It’s that your body just can’t handle it!" He said with a grin, "Think about it. With a frail constitution like yours... and our dear owner isn’t exactly a featherweight. What if something... unexpected were to happen to you in bed? What then?"
