Chapter 63: Chapter 64: Harvesting Wild Onions

By the time he finished paying everyone, it was already evening. Li Yang went to Zhou Liyun’s house.

Zhou Liyun was feeding the chicks.

"Sister-in-law Liyun, I’ll be counting on you to take care of these chickens from now on."

"Don’t worry. I’ll make sure to raise them nice and plump."

Li Yang smiled and nodded.

"By the way, how’s the vegetable plot?"

"It’s ready for planting. The soil has all been tilled and leveled," Zhou Liyun explained. "Don’t worry, I’ll speed things up."

"Remember, the water is the most important part!" Li Yang reminded her. "It’s not your usual water."

"I know, I definitely won’t forget," Zhou Liyun promised.

He ended up having dinner at Zhou Liyun’s before going home.

That night, he went to check on the Shedding Flowers again and found they were growing splendidly. To his surprise, they were even beginning to branch out.

Li Yang breathed a huge sigh of relief.

"Holy crap!" When he went to see the wild scallions, he found they were growing even better, already lush and verdant.

"Oh my god, you guys are growing way too fast!" Li Yang was dumbfounded.

In two days, at most, these wild scallions would be ready for harvesting.

That was just too fast!

...

A few days later, Li Yang finished writing out the medicinal food recipe and prepared to show it to Zhao Xuechu.

Before he left, he glanced at the wild scallions and saw they had become extremely lush.

"They’re ready!" Li Yang happily cut about thirty pounds of them and headed out of town.

At Hidden Dragon Manor, the proprietress was talking with Lao Xu.

"Listen, Lao Xu, your produce has been getting worse and worse," the proprietress said with a worried look.

"Proprietress, I told you to sleep with me. How many times have you rejected me? And you still expect the good stuff?" Lao Xu said angrily. "Don’t even think about it. Not unless you sleep with me."

The proprietress was seething with hatred, but her hands were tied.

It was just that Li Yang hadn’t been able to provide a steady supply yet, so she didn’t dare offend Lao Xu right now.

"I’m telling you, in all of Ruizhou, I’m the only one with wild scallions. If you don’t agree today, I’m cutting off your supply from now on."

"Lao Xu, it’s that time of the month!"

"Cut the crap. Didn’t that time of the month just pass not too long ago?" Lao Xu didn’t believe her for a second.

"Only you have wild scallions in all of Ruizhou?" Li Yang walked in at that moment, bringing out a basket from behind him. "That’s a pretty bold claim."

"You again!" Lao Xu was annoyed the moment he saw Li Yang. "You’re not actually sleeping with the proprietress, are you? I’m telling you, if you two really have something going on, I’m done delivering my vegetables here!"

"Then don’t," Li Yang said, taking the lid off his basket.

Thirty pounds of fresh, green wild scallions appeared before them.

The proprietress’s eyes lit up.

"Where did you get these wild scallions?" Lao Xu asked, panicked.

Not only did Li Yang have a lot of wild scallions, but they also looked incredible. The moment he opened the basket, the fresh fragrance of the plants wafted out. They were worlds better than his own.

He was completely flustered.

"I picked them, of course," Li Yang said casually. "Did you really think you were the only one with wild scallions like these? That’s not the case. I have them at my place, so don’t underestimate things!"

"I..." Lao Xu’s expression turned ugly. "Did you steal these from my patch?"

"Get lost!" Li Yang snapped. "Do you have wild scallions of this quality?"

Lao Xu was instantly speechless.

"Lao Xu..." The proprietress was inwardly delighted, but she immediately put on a stern face and said, "Well, if you don’t want to deliver to me anymore, then don’t. You can deliver to someone else."

"You..." Furious, Lao Xu pointed at Li Yang and the proprietress. "You bitch and bastard! You just wait! Just you wait!"

After saying his piece, he stormed off in a huff, carrying his basket of inferior-looking wild scallions.

"Oh, you’re a lifesaver, dear!" The proprietress came forward, rubbing her hands together excitedly. "You really are a treasure! How on earth did you get your hands on these wild scallions?"

"I already told you, I grew them."

"You grew them? This fast?" The proprietress was dumbfounded.

"Wrong!" Li Yang corrected her with a deadpan expression. "I’m not fast. On the contrary, I’m very long-lasting!"

The proprietress giggled. "You mischievous little devil... As for being fast or not, I’d have to test that to know for sure."

"Proprietress, don’t think you can tempt me with your good looks. Let’s talk price. How much?" Li Yang asked, patting the wild scallions.

"Twenty-five!" the proprietress said seriously. "I pay Lao Xu twenty, as you probably know. But I like the look of you, so I’ll give you twenty-five a pound. How about it?"

Li Yang thought for a moment before speaking. "I think your price is a little low."

The proprietress raised an eyebrow.

"The quality of my stuff is different from his. How about this? Instead of just talking, let’s put it to the test. Have the kitchen fry up a plate of these, and you’ll see what makes them so special," Li Yang suggested.

"Alright!"

...

「Elsewhere.」

Lao Xu stormed out of Hidden Dragon Manor, his basket on his back.

After a moment’s thought, he immediately entered Xi Chi Manor, right next door to Hidden Dragon Manor.

"Well now, isn’t it Lao Xu?" The owner of Xi Chi Manor saw Lao Xu enter his establishment and immediately came out to greet him, his face all smiles. "What a rare honor! I can never get Brother Xu to come visit, but here you are today! Come, come, what would you like to eat? I’ll have the kitchen whip something up, and we can have a few drinks."

"Boss Yu, are you buying wild scallions?" Lao Xu asked directly.

Boss Yu’s eyes lit up. "Of course, of course..."

"On one condition. You help me deal with Hidden Dragon Manor next door," Lao Xu said bitterly. "You business types have the dirtiest minds. You’ll be able to think of a good way to do it."
