Chapter 64: Chapter 65: Tastes Even Better
Li Yang was sitting with the proprietress, waiting for their food.
The proprietress was giving him a grand treat. Li Yang had solved her biggest worry, so she had to thank him with a few extra dishes.
After waiting for about half an hour, they saw Boss Yu walk in with Lao Xu and another man.
"Boss Shang!" Boss Yu laughed heartily at the proprietress. "I never would have guessed you’d stop working with Brother Xu. In that case, I won’t hold back. By the way, this is Mr. Wang, the chief editor of our local Ruizhou Food public account. He made a special trip to my place for a meal, and afterward, I thought he should come try your restaurant. So, I recommended he come over."
"Oh, it’s Chief Editor Wang!" The proprietress immediately shot to her feet.
The Ruizhou Food public account had a large local following, and their reviews were very important.
"Please, please, have a seat!"
Lao Xu walked up to Li Yang and said scornfully, "Pretty boy, those wild onions of yours are definitely fake. I’m the only one in all of Ruizhou who has the real thing. Who do you think you’re fooling?"
Li Yang understood. ’This Lao Xu must still be sore after I put him in his place earlier. He’s not taking it lying down, so he’s brought some people to get back at me.’
’Too bad for you... you’ve picked the wrong guy!’
"Chief Editor Wang, you’ve tried the food at my place. It wasn’t bad, right? This Hidden Dragon Manor is much more famous than my manor is. Their food must be better than ours, shouldn’t it? They charge so much, after all. Otherwise, it just wouldn’t be right, would it?"
Boss Yu was stirring up trouble again.
The proprietress understood his intentions and immediately grew anxious.
’Lao Xu sold his wild onions to Boss Yu. What’s the difference between their food and mine now?’
’Not much at all!’
"That’s a fair point!" Chief Editor Wang nodded. "Just bring out a few dishes for me. Your specialties would be fine."
The proprietress was alarmed. She looked at Li Yang, her face full of anticipation.
Li Yang shook his head, signaling for her not to worry.
Just then, their food began to arrive.
"Chief Editor Wang, if you don’t want to wait, feel free to join us!" Li Yang said, gesturing to the dishes that had just been served.
A faint fragrance seemed to drift through the air.
"Alright!" Chief Editor Wang nodded.
Boss Yu and Lao Xu nearly burst out laughing. ’This guy really has no idea how serious this is.’
’Hidden Dragon Manor’s prices are higher than Xi Chi Manor’s. That used to make sense because their food was better.’
’But if the quality is roughly the same now, all it takes is one post from the public account to expose them, and their high prices will be completely unjustifiable.’
’Even if we can’t completely ruin your manor, we can at least ride your coattails for a bit of hype.’
The lid was lifted from the dish.
An extraordinary fragrance instantly filled their nostrils.
Chief Editor Wang shot up from his seat. "What kind of spice is in this?"
"We didn’t add any spices!" the proprietress explained. "Our manor specializes in natural cuisine. We add as few seasonings as possible. This aroma..."
The proprietress herself was stumped. ’This is incredibly fragrant, but I have no idea what it is.’
"It’s the aroma of the wild onions!" Li Yang explained from the side with a confident smile.
"Impossible!" Lao Xu was the first to object. "I know wild onions like the back of my hand. There’s no way they could have an aroma like this. He’s spouting nonsense."
"Wild onions have different grades," Li Yang said earnestly. "Yours are the lowest grade. It’s perfectly normal that you’ve never had a high-quality product like this."
"You!" Lao Xu was fuming.
Chief Editor Wang, however, couldn’t hold back any longer. He immediately sat down and began to eat.
The moment the food entered his mouth, he froze. Then, as if possessed, he started shoveling food into his mouth while exclaiming, "It is the taste of wild onions, but it’s so unique! To think wild onions of this quality actually exist! This is absolutely delicious!"
Boss Yu’s heart sank. He also reached over for a taste.
After that single bite, he realized what utter crap Lao Xu had sold him.
"This is the best food I’ve ever had! Boss Shang, I’ll have to write a piece to praise you all properly when I get back!" Chief Editor Wang gushed as he continued to eat.
Boss Yu’s heart was bleeding.
’Lao Xu, you motherfucker! You’ve completely screwed me over!’
’Not only did I fail to crush them, I ended up making them famous instead!’
The proprietress was dumbstruck. It took her a moment to process what was happening, and then her heart filled with immense excitement.
’This stuff... it really is the real deal!’
She couldn’t help but look over at Li Yang, only to find him with a smug look on his face, slowly enjoying his meal.
After the whirlwind of a meal, Chief Editor Wang took his leave, saying countless complimentary things as he went.
Meanwhile, Boss Yu and Lao Xu left with sullen faces, utterly dejected.
"Oh my god, how on earth do you grow these?" the proprietress asked, her face a mask of shock after finally tasting some herself. "I’ve never eaten anything so delicious in my life! How did you possibly manage it?"
Li Yang gave a mysterious smile. "You want to know, do you?"
The proprietress nodded eagerly.
"I’m not telling!" Li Yang chuckled mischievously.
The proprietress suddenly moved close to him. "Fine, don’t tell me. But you have to promise you won’t supply this produce to anyone else. It has to be exclusive to me."
"Oh, really..." A delicate, feminine scent wafted over, making Li Yang’s heart pound. He looked at her with a teasing smile. "And why should I do that, Boss Lady?"
"You little devil!" The proprietress bit her lip and threw herself into his arms. "What grounds were you hoping for?"
