Almighty didn't give us time to regroup.
He raised his hand, and three beams of Cleansing Light shot across the beach. The golden beams wrapped around Grace, Brock, and Nelvin, forming glowing cages of light around them. The cages began to rapidly drain their BP, causing all three of them to collapse in exhaustion inside their light prisons.
Almighty then flicked his finger toward our last support classmate standing in the rear. A tiny needle of light struck him, knocking him out cold instantly.
Only two of us were left standing: Koda and me.
"Together!" Koda yelled, his armor clanking as he charged forward.
Wings.
I shot into the air, flying overhead and creating massive wind storms that blasted down at the beach, trying to throw Almighty off balance.
Koda rushed in from the front, slashing with a drawn sword, while I rained down blasts of pressure from above. But Almighty didn't even flinch. He raised his palms, deflecting Koda’s blade and my wind storms with simple pulses of light.
We pulled back onto the sand, gasping for air.
Koda leaned in close to me. "I have a plan, Seasons. Distract him for a few minutes while I find a way to break his forcefield guard."
"Okay," I said.
I launched myself back into the air and unleashed a continuous stream of elemental attacks—wind blasts, Burn, and Freeze—drawing Almighty’s undivided attention.
I kept up the assault for five full minutes, pushing my elemental output to the absolute limit to keep Almighty focused on me.
Suddenly, in the middle of deflecting my wind storm, Almighty stopped fighting.
He started laughing.
I hovered in the air, panting heavily. "What the fuck are you laughing at?"
Almighty pointed a finger over my shoulder toward the ocean. "Look behind you."
I turned around in mid-air.
Out on the open water, Koda was standing on a motorized speedboat, already halfway back to the California mainland!
I stared in complete disbelief.
Koda’s "plan" was never to break Almighty's guard. He had drawn a boat and fled the island while I took the full brunt of Almighty's attacks!
My blood boiled. I wanted to use Wings to fly across the ocean, catch up to him, and blow his drawn boat to pieces with lightning. But I knew the rules. If I left the island boundaries or chased him, Class Four would automatically forfeit the entire evaluation.
I was trapped on the beach.
I clenched my fists hard. I knew I shouldn't have trusted Koda. But over the last month, he had carefully built up everyone’s trust, acting like a competent, caring, and benevolent leader—all just to keep our guard down. He knew he couldn't beat a Rank Nine Hero, so rather than get hurt trying, he chose to run away unscathed and leave us behind.
He was a cowardly, manipulative bastard.
But something inside me changed.
A month ago, I was a Level 60 slacker who just wanted to sleep in a warm cave. But over the last thirty days, I had gained nearly forty levels. I was Level 99 now. I felt stronger than I had ever felt in my life.
I was done running away and taking the easy way out.
I deactivated Wings and dropped lightly onto the sand, facing the Rank Nine Hero alone.
"Are you going to join him?" Almighty asked softly.
I looked Almighty straight in his eyes.
"No," I said. "I am staying right here."

Master of the Elements.
The weather began to shift instantly. Dark rain clouds gathered directly above our heads, blocking out the sun.
Sir Cross looked up from his tree stump, letting out a quiet sigh. He stood up and walked over to a tree, sitting down in its shade.
The clouds opened up, and rain started pouring over the shore in sheets.
I raised my hands, and lightning began to crackle across the sky.
Lightshow!
Without waiting another second, I rushed Almighty.
We engaged in a fist fight right there on the beach as bolts of lightning and sheets of rain struck the sand around us. I used wind currents to boost the force of my fists, increase my speed, and blow water into Almighty’s eyes.
Almighty fought back with equal force. His armor glowed with Cleansing Light, and his hands deflected my wind-boosted punches, pushing me back with every single strike.
I threw everything I had at him.
I used Freeze to freeze the ground beneath his feet. I used Burn to superheat the surrounding trees into a wall of fire. I used my wind control to create a vacuum around his face, trying to starve him of oxygen.
Almighty had a counter for every single move.
His light shattered my ice, extinguished my fire, and broke my vacuum in seconds. His combat instincts were flawless.
But for the first time in my life, I didn't quit or take the easy way out. I pushed myself to one hundred percent effort, fighting with everything I possessed until my body was aching and my BP was almost empty.
I had one final attack left. It was the best chance I had.
I reached out with my mind, targeting the vast ocean surrounding island.
I used my remaining BP to pull the water from all around the coastline, drawing a hundred-foot wall of water over the cliffs.
A colossal flood surged across the entire island.
The attack was so massive and breathtaking that even Sir Cross stopped eating his apple, his jaw dropping in shock as he stared at the mountain of water.
With the absolute final push of my BP, I flooded the entire island.
Then, my BP hit zero. Blessing Exhaustion kicked in, my vision went black, and I passed out.
When I opened my eyes, I was lying on grass. The sky above was bright and sunny.
I sat up slowly, rubbing my head, and looked around. Standing nearby was a wooden park sign that read: Janesten Park.
I pulled my phone out of my pocket. There was a text from Kevin sent three hours ago.
Good work, Seasons. Class Four placed second and you were the highest scorer of your class. Almighty and Cross said they dropped you off somewhere so we couldn’t get to you but everyone is safe, don't worry. No work today but drop by the facility when you have time. Also, make sure to get settled in. Brand guarantees your housing in Drofman but not Janesten. The prices are expensive here so make sure you budget. See you soon!
I put my phone away and let out a sigh.
I lost.
I opened my System interface to check my status—and completely freaked out.
