The System Keeps Making Me Do Indecent Missions [BL, R18]
Chapter 134: The Scent of AutumnChapter 134: Chapter 134: The Scent of Autumn
The distance between Lucien and Damian at this moment would likely not appear unusual to an outside observer. After all, there was still a gap separating the two of them, yet it was excessively intimate for individuals who had not even reached the level of casual acquaintances.
Even a slight stumble would be enough to send his entire body plunging into the other man’s embrace.
While Lucien was silently counting the remaining seconds needed to complete this challenge, Damian suddenly tilted his head. Naturally, Lucien was not so delusional as to think the man was turning to look at him; he merely caught a fleeting sense that Damian was shifting his posture, perhaps feeling uncomfortable due to this overly close proximity.
Come on, please do not get angry. Just ten more seconds.
Unexpectedly, right at that moment, Damian looked directly toward him, the man’s eyes narrowing slightly with a look of apparent curiosity.
"Are you the new guy? Working late?"
Lucien was startled, seemingly surprised that Damian had initiated a conversation with him. However, he quickly regained his composure, lowering his head to reply, "Yes, it is because I stayed behind to finish up some extra work. I did not expect to run into you here, sir; you are also heading home quite late."
"Yeah." Damian replied, then turned away, his eyes returning to his phone.
Lucien let out a very faint breath, trying his best not to let the relief show on his face. But right at that moment, Damian suddenly spoke up again without looking up from his screen: "Do you wear cologne?"
Lucien blinked: "Pardon? I... I do not wear any cologne. It must just be the smell of soap or laundry detergent."
Damian gave a soft hum of acknowledgment and left it at that, acting as if the question had merely slipped out unintentionally.
The elevator let out a crisp ding, and the doors slid open at the basement level. Damian stepped out first, taking long strides toward the sleek black car parked in a secluded corner. Lucien stepped out after him, turning in the opposite direction toward the pedestrian exit.
Only when he had completely exited the basement did he dare to stop, leaning his back against the wall and letting out a long exhale.
[Done!] 000 chimed in happily: [Mission completed excellently. Thirty Charm Points have been credited to your account. Congratulations, host.]
"What on earth are thirty Charm Points?" Lucien asked, his voice still slightly breathless.
[Charm Points are different from Impression Points. They measure the level of... well... physical attraction you generate toward the capture target. To put it simply, Damian Thorne is starting to find you somewhat appealing. Not a whole lot, but at the very least, he has taken notice of the scent on your body.]
Lucien clicked his tongue: "No wonder he asked if I was wearing cologne. What, did he find the scent fragrant and wanted to ask about it so he could buy the same one to share?"
[Could you try to be a little romantic? Have you not seen in those romance novels how the male lead is always captivated by his other half’s scent? This proves that you yourself are radiating an alluring fragrance.]
To be completely honest, from the first world up until now, Lucien had never stopped despising the illogical, cheesy tropes of these novel worlds. What natural fragrance? He worked exhaustively for eight hours straight, and even though he sat in an air-conditioned room, he still reeked of coffee and his lunchtime instant noodles. It was already a blessing that he did not smell unpleasant, let alone exude a natural fragrance.
[By the way, did you notice his gaze just now? He looked at you for longer than usual.]
"I saw it, I am not blind." Lucien pushed himself off the wall and started walking toward the bus stop: "But thirty Charm Points, according to your description, are still not quite enough. Added to the twenty-five Impression Points from earlier, that only makes fifty-five points. You even mentioned that maxing out a full hundred points does not guarantee getting into his bed, so how many more of these side missions am I going to have to complete?"
[Just take it easy, you have to take things step by step. Or perhaps, like in the previous world, you want to walk right up to him and seduce the man directly? If you manage to get into his bed, would the mission progress not skyrocket?]
"Then tell me, what is the probability of me being thrown out of Damian’s bed if I try the exact same trick I used on Dominic Vance?"
[Probably ninety-nine percent, with the added bonus of being kicked out of the company.]
"Well, aren’t you smart. But I am wondering, could he be just like Dominic Vance? I mean, incapable of getting it up?"
[If he did not suffer from that, why would I have brought you to this world in the first place?]
"Ah, it is just because he seems so measured and slow-paced. With Dominic Vance back then, I witnessed a steamy scene right upon entering the world."
[Well, every male lead has a different character setting. If he were that easy to approach, there would be no need for you to do anything; anyone could just waltz in and succeed.]
"Then why did it have to be me?"
The vigorous flapping of 000’s wings paused for a brief moment, and it took a long while before it finally answered: [It is just destiny.]
At this moment, the bus also pulled up to the stop near Lucien’s apartment. He stepped off the bus, slowly making his way home through the cool night air. Right then, the phone in his pocket vibrated a few times; it was a message from Mark.
[I just sent you some new tutorial files I recently discovered. There are a few color blending techniques that I think will be quite useful for your poster. Take a look.]
Lucien smiled and typed a reply: [Thank you. I will look over them tonight.]
The next morning, the moment Lucien set his bag down on his desk, even before he had the chance to turn on his computer, he saw Ethan approaching him. The man was wearing a dark blue shirt, carrying a thick stack of documents in his hand, and sporting a friendly smile so familiar that Lucien could have drawn it with his eyes closed.
"Lucien, I have a favor to ask of you." Ethan placed the stack of documents down on his desk, his voice maintaining its usual tone of feigned concern: "This is our department’s new project. I need someone to take charge of the concept for this year’s Autumn-Winter fashion collection. I think you are the most suitable person for the job."
