Chapter 55: Chapter 55: The Echoes of a Past (2)

"We are in a very good mood today, so we were not planning on beating you. But it is such a pity, your little brother just transferred some money and told us we have to be extremely heavy-handed today."

Hearing that familiar title, Lucien Sinclair raised his head, his gaze no longer holding a shred of warmth, and his pupils strained with red streaks like a wild wolf driven to an absolute dead end.

"Oh, look at his eyes. I wonder if they look just like his mother’s eyes right before she died?"

That sentence was like a spark thrown directly into the leaking gasoline within the heart of Lucien Sinclair. The hot blood inside his body surged violently, and the pain in his spine vanished without him even noticing when. Lucien Sinclair sprang up from the freezing floor, lunging at the punk who had just mentioned his mother with the blinding speed of a ferocious beast struck right in the heart. With no technique and no formal training, he used the entire deadweight of his humiliation to tackle the guy onto the floor. The pair of hands that had originally only ever glided across pristine white piano keys were now tightly clenched into fists, hammering down upon the guy’s face with earth-shattering blows.

"How dare your filthy mouth even mention my mother!"

Every scream was accompanied by a fist crashing down onto the side of the bully’s face. Lucien Sinclair could no longer feel the stinging pain in his knuckles; all that remained was a profound satisfaction from seeing the sheer panic in the eyes of the wretch who had insulted his mother.

Only then did the rest of them snap out of their daze, rushing forward in an attempt to drag him away, but Lucien Sinclair was like a rabid dog backed into a corner, twisting his body and pulling out a razor-sharp box cutter.

"Stay the fuck away from me!"

Everyone took a step back after catching sight of the gleaming object in his hand. Inside the cramped and wet restroom, Lucien Sinclair pinned down one person, his hand gripping the blade as he viciously threatened the others.

"Calm down, Lucien Sinclair. Everyone was just joking." The blond-haired punk spoke up to placate him, raising both hands to the sky in a gesture of surrender.

"I do not find it fucking funny!"

"Then how about we all apologize to you together, does that sound alright?"

The blond-haired punk waved his hand, and the rest of the gang followed his lead, dropping to their knees right in front of him. Lucien Sinclair was stunned, unable to believe that they would actually do such a thing. While he was momentarily disoriented and trying to comprehend what was happening, that same guy shouted at the top of his lungs once again: "Pin him down!"

The punk who had been pinned to the floor by Lucien Sinclair all this time suddenly surged upward, shoving him backwards onto the ground. Waiting precisely for that moment, the bullies pounced on him like a pack of starved wolves. Everyone tangled together into an utterly chaotic mess. Lucien Sinclair screamed, thrashing around like a feral beast. Amidst the frenzied struggle, his hand was viciously twisted behind his back by one of the thugs.

And then, amidst the violent writhing, a sudden, piercingly cold spike of pain radiated from the right side of his head.

In a single second, the entire world abruptly fell utterly silent. The cursing, the mocking laughter, the sound of shoe soles stomping against the floor... Everything vanished, replaced entirely by a prolonged, deafening ringing. The blade that had originally been meant for his enemies had plunged straight into the ear canal of Lucien Sinclair during the chaotic frenzy.

Scalding hot red blood rapidly poured out from the puncture wound, completely drenching the collar of his pristine white uniform and dyeing an entire side of his face crimson.

The bullies froze in their tracks. Their gazes gradually shifted from aggression to sheer terror as they watched the dark red liquid spilling out from the ear of Lucien Sinclair. They let go of him, slowly retreating backward, before turning around and fleeing for their lives like sewer rats witnessing the daylight for the first time.

"You are still standing there recording a video, hurry up and run. Someone is dead!"

After a few fleeting seconds, the previously roaring room instantly plunged into an eerie, chilling silence. In the quiet space, Lucien Sinclair lay there entirely alone. Half of the world on the side of his right ear was now nothing but absolute, terrifying silence. He did not feel any pain, only an extreme, bottomless emptiness.

Why had everything turned out like this?

Clearly, just a split second before, he had still been a beloved little young master, had he not?

...

The old story came to a halt amidst soft, quiet sobs. Dominic Vance hugged the person in his arms, only able to feel the trembling shoulders along with a patch on the shoulder of his shirt that had been completely soaked through with tears.

Supposedly, Lucien was not truly crying, he was only pretending to be pitiful as he murmured the story for Dominic Vance to hear. It was just that the more he spoke, the more the corners of his eyes stung with bitterness, until it finally culminated in streams of uncontrollable tears.

Perhaps it was due to the lingering fragments of memory left in this body, or perhaps it was because Lucien felt genuinely heartbroken for this child. Living this lifetime had truly not been easy at all.

"000." Lucien called out softly: "So what happened to that child?"

[Are you asking about Lucien Sinclair in this novel?]

"Mhm."

[He is dead.] 000 was rarely this serious: [To be honest, you do not need to feel guilty, because his character setting dictated that he would die sooner or later. Even the developmental arc of this world had long since forgotten a supporting character like him,]

[That is simply how things are within worlds, there will always be those who are inadvertently forsaken by the heavens. You transmigrating here is actually perfect timing, as you can help him exact his revenge.]

"Oh."

Lucien gave a bland reply, for the first time truly not knowing how to respond. It was not exactly that he was out of words, but rather that his mood was exceedingly uncomfortable, and his entire little head drooped in dejection.

Even though Lucien had been paralyzed in both legs since childhood, he had always been deeply loved by his relatives, cherished as the ultimate treasure of his parents and older brother. Hailing from a wealthy family, Lucien had nonetheless never fallen into situations involving power struggles or disputes over inheritance.

He had lived incredibly comfortably, and while it was true that he had witnessed the infighting of other families, for it to reach this level of brutality...

Lucien let out a faint sigh, he was only a child, after all, yet he had been so terribly pitiful.

Meanwhile, Dominic Vance still thought that Lucien was feeling sad, and so he gently patted his back: "It is alright, everything is alright now, it is all in the past."
