Chapter 59: Chapter 59: Lingering Warmth

Seeing the person in his arms nearly fainting, Dominic Vance finally relented and let him off the hook. The man carefully scooped the youth up and carried him into the bathroom. Dominic was exceedingly gentle today, meticulously washing Lucien clean from head to toe.

The warm water was at the perfect temperature, accompanied by the faintly scented shower gel. A soft cotton towel tenderly wiped away every lingering drop of water on the youth’s shoulders and back. He dried Lucien’s hair, strand by delicate strand, as gently as if he were tending to a priceless treasure. Afterward, the man even dressed him in a fresh set of pajamas, roomy, warm, and carrying the soothing fragrance of fabric softener.

Lucien slept incredibly soundly, not waking up in the slightest.

He laid snugly within the man’s embrace, his head resting in the crook of Dominic’s neck, his even breaths fanning rhythmically across the warm skin. The youth’s eyes were shut tight, his long, curled eyelashes trembling faintly whenever an unseen shadow drifted through his dreams.

Dominic Vance gently placed him onto the bed, pulling the duvet all the way up to his chin.

Then, the man stood up and quietly stepped out onto the balcony.

The night wind was bone-chillingly cold, scattering the smoke from the cigarette he had just lit.

Dominic Vance pulled out his phone and dialed his assistant’s number. The other end rang for quite a while before someone finally picked up. The voice was still thick with sleep but instantly sobered up upon hearing the sound from this side of the line.

"Investigate the bullying incident from years ago at the high school in the eastern part of the city for me."

"I am not sure exactly who it was, but it involves Lucien; you should be able to find it. The ringleader was a notorious school bully at the time. Just look for old security footage, videos, photos, or anyone who participated back then. Dig up everything thoroughly."

The assistant on the other end paused for a beat before hurriedly taking notes.

"Understood, Mr. Vance."

After hanging up the phone, Dominic Vance returned to the room, climbed into bed, and wrapped Lucien in his arms to sleep.

The early morning sunlight slipped through the gap in the curtains, casting fragile golden streaks across the still-warm blankets and pillows. Lucien woke up to a peculiar sensation, feeling simultaneously heavy and light-headed, as if this body did not entirely belong to him anymore.

He shifted slightly, instantly realizing that he was softly imprisoned within a pair of strong arms. Dominic Vance was hugging him from behind, the man’s sturdy chest pressed snugly against Lucien’s slender back, while warm, damp breaths puffed steadily against the nape of his neck. The man’s arm was draped across his waist, tightening in a gentle squeeze.

The system’s side effects had not yet fully dissipated. The very moment he realized he was being held so tightly, a faint electric current zipped down his spine. Lucien’s body instantly turned as mushy as if all his bones had been completely extracted. He gritted his teeth internally.

This damn dog of a system, when will these side effects finally end?

And then there was the guy behind him. He couldn’t even sleep without holding onto someone. This bastard was going to die from sex addiction at this rate!

Outwardly, however, Lucien merely shifted a little, rubbing the tip of his nose against the man’s firm chest like a kitten that had just woken up. His voice was husky and as soft as cotton, "Dominic..."

A tiny, languid, sleep-laden call, yet bearing an undeniable, nameless reliance.

Dominic Vance opened his eyes.

He gazed down at the person in his arms. The youth’s hair was slightly messy, his cheeks carrying a faint flush from the warmth of the duvet, and his eyelashes fluttered like resting butterfly wings.

Dominic’s mood this morning was exceptionally good.

He said nothing, simply reaching out to lift Lucien’s chin before dipping his head to capture those lips.

The kiss lingered, slow and unending, as if time itself had stood still. The man’s tongue gently pried open the youth’s lips, tangling within, savoring every warm corner of his mouth. Lucien was kissed until his mind spun, his hands unconsciously gripping the lapels of Dominic’s sleepwear.

Dominic Vance chuckled softly into the kiss. He rolled over, pinning Lucien beneath him. The man’s hand slipped under the pajama shirt, slowly gliding along the waist, every knuckle brushing lightly against the smooth skin as if admiring a luxurious treasure.

He trailed his lips down to the youth’s neck. A feather-light kiss, followed by a gentle bite.

Lucien shivered faintly, a tiny moan escaping his throat.

"Dominic..."

Dominic Vance lifted Lucien up, settling the youth onto his lap. The oversized pajama shirt slipped down one shoulder, revealing delicate collarbones and the faded marks left behind from last night. Dominic leaned in, pressing his lips against an old hickey, sucking lightly as if wishing to brand a new mark over it. The man’s hands rested on Lucien’s waist, squeezing and caressing simultaneously, without any sense of urgency, simply teasing and playing around.

Naturally, Dominic Vance wasn’t in such a rut that he would pin the youth down for another round right at the crack of dawn.

He just loved this feeling, holding the person in his arms, watching Lucien turn all soft and pliant, his face flushed and eyes brimming with tears from being teased past the point of endurance.

It was only a good while later that Dominic Vance finally let Lucien go. He carried Lucien to the bathroom, waited for him to wash up, and then led him by the hand down to the dining room. Breakfast was already set out on the table: warm porridge, poached eggs, and steaming soy milk.

Truth be told, looking at the way they interacted, an unknowing bystander might think they were a passionately in-love couple who had just gotten married and were deeply in their honeymoon phase. Unfortunately, Lucien was well aware that all of this was nothing but an illusion.

Dominic Vance was in a good mood because he was satisfied, while Lucien was simply acting out for the sake of his damned mission. He kept his head down as he ate, appearing the picture of docility, though his eyes would occasionally steal glances at the man sitting opposite him.

Dominic Vance was scrolling through his phone, likely checking work messages or something of the sort, as Lucien could sense the man’s expression growing increasingly grim. However, Lucien feigned ignorance, lowering his head to sip a spoonful of porridge. It was merely an act, of course; from the corner of his eye, he continued tracking every microscopic shift in Dominic’s expression.
