The System Keeps Making Me Do Indecent Missions [BL, R18]
Chapter 70: Signs of RejectionChapter 70: Chapter 70: Signs of Rejection
Lucien put on an act for a while, acting until he was exhausted, and then drifted off to sleep without even realizing it. Exhaustion descended like a lead blanket, covering his still-wet eyelashes, pulling him into a deep, dreamless slumber.
In truth, Lucien had nothing to worry about to the point of having nightmares, he only felt that he had been rather sleepy lately, so he subconsciously wanted to ask 000: "What is going on with my condition recently?"
[You are pregnant, those are the symptoms of someone carrying a child.]
Lucien felt his temples throbbing: "Am I going to give birth through my armpit or what, how can I be pregnant?"
The voice still belonged to 000, but Lucien guessed it was the second personality. Only this personality would make a joke like this, yet for some reason, it sounded remarkably sluggish this time, not prolonging the prank as it usually did: [Just messing with you for a bit. Because you are a soul from elsewhere appearing in this world, the longer you stay, the more rejection reactions will emerge. Physical exhaustion is also a manifestation of being rejected from the body.]
"Rejection is happening this early?" Lucien calculated in his mind; it had not been that long since he transmigrated to this world, had it? If it was rejection, there should have been symptoms right from the start, or otherwise, it should have taken quite a while longer.
[Because our system bureau has had some issues recently, we cannot maintain the integration for you. It should probably be fine again in a few days.]
No wonder 000’s voice sounded so weary. And after answering that question, the system did not appear again, it had probably returned to the main bureau.
Lucien did not care too much, he began to let his thoughts wander for a bit. This sign of rejection would undoubtedly become increasingly obvious after some time, and the symptoms would grow far more severe. Coincidentally, it would turn into a harbinger of death for this body, perfectly rationalizing his passing and his subsequent transmigration to another world. That way, Lucien would no longer have to worry about how to make his death look as natural as possible, while simultaneously making Dominic Vance go mad with maximum regret. It was just that at that time, he would probably need to ask the system to make a slight adjustment, so that the examining doctor would diagnose that his body was too severely depleted, leading to a weakened state...
Lucien let his mind wander, and gradually, he completely fell into a true sleep. Dominic Vance sat on the edge of the bed for a long time, his large hand still gently stroking down the young man’s spine until Lucien’s breathing became even and profound. Then he bent down, pressing a soft kiss against a forehead still stained with faint traces of tears, before carefully pulling the blanket up to cover him securely.
At this moment, Dominic Vance stood up and walked outside. It was clear that just a few seconds ago, his eyes had still been as gentle as autumn waters, yet now, for some unknown reason, they had turned entirely stern. He held his phone, stepping out onto the balcony connected to the corridor, watching the stream of traffic moving through the night.
The call was connected very quickly, the voice that rang out belonged to an older woman. Her tone was soothing and pleasant to the ear, filled with a deep sense of intimacy as she spoke: "What is it, son? Why are you calling me at this hour?"
She paused for a moment, likely checking the time before asking further: "You must have just gotten off work, right? Did the servants cook something that did not suit your taste again? Should we replace them? But you just cleared out everyone at the villa the other day."
"The other day" mentioned by Mrs. Vance was exactly the day that Dominic Vance completely replaced the entire villa staff because they dared to listen to Miles Sinclair instead of obeying him.
"It is not about the staff." Dominic Vance leaned back against the wall, letting out a heavy sigh: "Did you not dislike Miles before? Could we cancel the engagement with him?"
"Son, you cannot just say things like that." Mrs. Vance’s voice traveled from the other end, her exact mood indistinguishable: "How can I be the one to decide this? In any case, it is a commercial engagement. Although the Sinclair family is clinging to ours, we do receive a bit of benefit more or less. We cannot simply cancel it just because we want to."
Dominic Vance felt frustrated, but he still had to force himself to maintain his composure: "You know that is not what I meant."
At this moment, Mrs. Vance’s laughter echoed from the other end: "Tell me, why are you suddenly getting so involved with that child lately? You did not like him before."
That child mentioned by Mrs. Vance was none other than Lucien. From beginning to end, Mrs. Vance only ever wanted to accept one son-in-law, and that was Lucien. After all, he was her friend’s son. It was just that since it was another family’s affair, it was not convenient for her to intervene. Furthermore, if her own son did not like him, could she possibly force the boy?
Recently, a sudden rumor had circulated within their social circles that her son was seeing Lucien Sinclair and had abandoned Miles Sinclair. To be honest, Mrs. Vance did not believe it. She even assumed that it was a trick Miles Sinclair deliberately used to bring Lucien down. Who could have expected that people would even post photos online, could she not see it clearly for herself?
To say that her son loved someone, truthfully, Mrs. Vance did not believe it. In this world, there was absolutely no one who understood a child better than their mother, Mrs. Vance was more than capable of knowing the exact temperament of her precious son. She firmly guessed that Dominic Vance had simply grown sick and tired of Miles’s pretentious facade, and had merely switched over to Lucien instead. Even though she desperately wanted to tell her son that if he was already bored with Miles, then he should just change this marriage arrangement. However, when it came to her son’s affairs, she did not want to impose too much, so she let Dominic Vance do as he pleased.
Naturally, Mrs. Vance had also seen the online posts attacking Lucien. But so what? There was not much to be done, at most, she could only instruct her subordinates to pay attention and control the news a little, preventing things from spreading too far. The people being gossiped about in those posts were her friend and her friend’s son; she could not just turn a blind eye.
She never expected to receive a call from Dominic Vance so soon, much less that he would want to change the person he was going to marry. This was exactly what Mrs. Vance could only wish for, so how could she possibly have any objections?
Yet Dominic Vance did not answer Mrs. Vance’s question, only stating that he wanted to change his betrothed to Lucien; in his own words: "It was originally his position, so we should just return it to him."
"Dominic Vance, let me remind you of this." Mrs. Vance’s tone suddenly grew significantly more serious: "I do not care how you want to play around, but if you choose to marry Lucien Sinclair, you must act properly; do not treat someone else’s child like a servant in the house, do you understand? That child has lived far too bitterly, not to mention that he is also my friend’s son."
Dominic Vance gave a hum of acknowledgment, suddenly asking in return: "Did you know that Lucien’s right ear has gone completely deaf?"
"What?" Mrs. Vance’s voice pitched higher; Dominic Vance rarely heard his mother lose her composure like this: "What do you mean deaf? What happened?"
Dominic Vance suddenly felt his hands itching, he wanted to smoke a cigarette, but unfortunately, he had not brought any with him: "It happened a few years ago; his right ear was stabbed with a knife, damaging the nerves, completely impossible to recover."
The other end went quiet for a moment, followed by a cold sneer: "I told you a long time ago that Miles Sinclair and his mother were no good people."
Naturally, without needing it spelled out, Mrs. Vance was fully aware that this matter was undoubtedly caused by Miles Sinclair and his mother. Her voice was clearly suppressing a fiery anger.
Dominic Vance spoke up once again: "Do not interfere in this."
"What is it, you choose to marry Lucien but you still want to cover up for that illegitimate child?"
"Do not be angry with me, I have not even finished speaking, have I?" The man looked at the stream of vehicles moving below, his voice lowering a fraction: "I will deal with him with my own hands, rest assured."
