Chapter 78: Chapter 78: The Rightful Fiance

Lucien was carried back to the bedroom in a state of half-consciousness. His entire body felt as limp as if he had no bones, his mind hazy, sinking into the lingering afterglow of the pleasure he had just experienced. Dominic Vance laid him down on the large bed covered with ash-gray silk sheets. His movements were so gentle that Lucien could barely feel anything but the soothing softness of the mattress enveloping his body.

[Host, the current task completion rate is at 47%.]

The cold, mechanical voice of System 000 echoed in his mind. Lucien kept his eyes closed, yet his mind was fully awake.

It seemed this was the first time 000 had announced the main quest system’s progress. Initially, it was the one who told him that the main system only had completed and in-progress statuses, without evaluating the progress.

Could it be that its host server encountered an issue recently, and they conveniently reset it? But... 47%... this number...

Lucien began to calculate. Did this 47% mean Dominic Vance was gradually developing feelings for him, or was he starting to become more dependent on his body?

Lucien was not entirely sure, but whatever was uncertain could be tested.

"I am so tired..." he whispered, his voice faint as if he were about to fall asleep, but in reality, he was waiting.

As expected, a warm hand suddenly parted his legs.

Lucien feigned a startled flinch, instinctively wanting to close his legs, but he was already held firmly by Dominic Vance. Dominic sat at the edge of the bed, pressing one hand on Lucien’s knee, while the other held a soft white towel, slowly wiping away the dried bodily fluids on his inner thighs and between his legs.

"Don’t... I can do it myself..." Lucien tried to prop himself up, his face flushed red with embarrassment. His waist and legs were entirely numb, completely devoid of strength. Naturally, a part of this was genuine, but the majority of it was simply because he deliberately refused to exert any effort.

"Lie still." Dominic Vance’s voice was deep, but it did not sound like a command; rather, it was like a lazy coaxing.

His hand wiped carefully, bit by bit. Lucien observed through half-closed eyelashes; Dominic’s movements were so patient they bordered on tenderness. If it were an ordinary person, they would have likely melted from this feeling of being cherished long ago.

It was a pity that Lucien was not an ordinary person.

No matter how much of a cherishing and loving facade Dominic Vance put on, it could not make his heart flutter, because he already understood the true nature of this man too well.

He was a crazy pervert; occasionally giving you a little honey, only to ruthlessly take it back many times over later.

The towel glided across his thighs, followed the curve of his buttocks, and gently pressed against the entrance that was still slightly swollen and red. Lucien shuddered, a soft moan escaping his throat. This body was uncomfortably sensitive. No matter how cold his rationality was, he could not entirely control his physiological reactions.

"Does it hurt?" Dominic Vance asked, his fingers gently rubbing the slightly swollen rim through the towel.

Lucien shook his head, then nodded, ultimately just burying his face in the pillow. He did not answer, letting Dominic make his own assumptions. In situations like this, silence was always more effective than any words.

Dominic Vance chuckled softly. He reached for a small porcelain container on the nightstand. Opening the lid, a faint, cool minty scent spread through the air.

"Ointment. Applying a little will make it better."

His fingers dabbed a bit of the clear ointment, gently applying it to the still-trembling entrance. A mild, cooling sensation spread, soothing the burning feeling inside. Lucien let out a sigh of relief, his entire body gradually relaxing, his eyelids growing heavy.

He let himself fall asleep, but in fact, he closed his eyes, listening to every movement around him. Dominic Vance sat there for a long while, his hand still gently stroking Lucien’s hair, the steady motion like comforting a small cat.

[Data updated: The task completion rate has increased to 48%.]

Oh, so putting on an obedient act could also increase the completion rate.

When Lucien truly opened his eyes, it was almost noon.

Sunlight pierced through the thick curtains, casting dappled streaks on the floor. He lay alone on the large bed. He had been changed into a soft, cream-colored silk nightshirt, and while he was bare underneath, a blanket had been carefully draped over him.

Lucien lazily laid on the bed. Right at that moment, the phone rang from the nightstand.

Lucien glanced at the screen; it was an unknown number. He frowned, deliberately waiting a few more seconds to let his voice sound hoarse from just waking up, before answering.

"Hello?"

The other end was silent for a second, then Miles Sinclair’s shrill voice rang out: "Lucien Sinclair! You are unbelievable! Did you think doing that would let you climb up to be the daughter-in-law of the Vance family? Keep dreaming!"

Lucien blinked, smiling inwardly. Still the same useless temper. He slowly sat up, leaning against the headboard, his voice tinged with a pitiful frailty: "What are you talking about? I don’t understand."

"You are still pretending! Go online and see! Mrs. Vance just posted a public statement! You... what did you do to her? How could she..."

Lucien pulled the phone away, avoiding the screaming that could affect his eardrums. Joking aside, he only had one hearing ear; what if he was yelled at until he went completely deaf?

Lucien let the other side yell for a long time before leisurely hanging up. He narrowed his eyes, rolling over to lie on his stomach on the bed, and started thinking randomly. Miles Sinclair just said Dominic’s mother posted something... what could it be...

His fingertips tapped rhythmically on the bedsheet. He suddenly remembered the bizarre transaction Dominic Vance mentioned about him this morning.

So Lucien rolled over, quickly opening his social media. He feels so lazy, but this action is forced.

...

"To those who are paying attention to the marriage of my son, the young master of the Vance family, Dominic Vance. I speak as the wife of the former chairman, and the current head of the Vance family."

"The engagement between the Vance and Sinclair families was originally established for Dominic Vance and Lucien Sinclair, set when the first madam of the Sinclair family, Lucien Sinclair’s biological mother, was still alive. That late Madam Sinclair was my close friend, and the two children, Lucien and Dominic, were very close when they were young."

"It was just unexpected that my friend had a short life and passed away early, allowing Mr. Sinclair to bring someone else into the madam’s position. People are not wrong; with a stepmother, a biological father will eventually become a stepfather. The engagement was blatantly changed to another person by Mr. Sinclair."

"Before this, my husband had repeatedly brought up this issue, but Mr. Sinclair insisted that Lucien’s temperament was not good, and Miles Sinclair was more suitable for the Vance family. My husband hated trouble, so he went along with it. Who would have expected that human nature, no matter how well hidden, will always be exposed."

"The true nature of an illegitimate child climbing onto the table... ah..." The woman in the video covered her mouth and chuckled softly. "Look at me talking nonsense. In short, whoever the original engagement belonged to, it now returns to that person. As for the rights and wrongs in this, the Vance and Sinclair families will negotiate and clarify it themselves. The public does not need to worry."

"Today, I posted this video mainly to emphasize that Lucien Sinclair is the only future daughter-in-law I accept. I hope I will not hear any more nonsense rumors about the boy. This child has a hard life; his mother died early, his father does not love him, and he has suffered enough."

Lucien gazed at the post displayed directly on Mrs. Vance’s personal social media page, taking in the sight of the video that was currently playing on the screen, and a subtle, knowing smile naturally graced his lips. This woman was, without a shadow of a doubt, an incredibly crucial chess piece on his playing board. From the very beginning of his meticulous planning, Lucien had perfectly calculated that this woman would serve as the ultimate key, the exact instrument he needed to rightfully and justifiably step back into the treacherous vortex of power.

It was just entirely unexpected that she genuinely seemed to cherish her son to such a profound extent, completely lacking the overbearing, tyrannical demeanor of a typical aristocratic matriarch who would forcefully compel her children to bend to her every whim. Judging by the distinct tone of Dominic Vance’s voice earlier this morning, Lucien could safely wager that this entire situation had undoubtedly been propelled forward by that man’s underlying influence.
