The System Keeps Making Me Do Indecent Missions [BL, R18]
Chapter 80: The Reclaimed EngagementChapter 80: Chapter 80: The Reclaimed Engagement
Seeing Mrs. Vance’s overly resolute attitude, Mr. Sinclair felt slightly flustered and turned to look at his son. Miles stood nearby, his hands tightly gripping the hem of his shirt, his eye sockets rimmed with welling tears: "Mom... I have not done anything wrong, why would you say that?"
"Now..." Mrs. Vance signaled for him to stop: "Do not call me mom, I am not your mother."
Seeing him open his mouth to say something, Mrs. Vance quickly cut him off: "In the past when you called me mom, did I ever respond? At best, it was only because of the engagement that I did not want to make things difficult and cause everyone to lose face."
"You should remember clearly, from beginning to end, I have always opposed the idea of you stepping foot into this house. If it had not been for you and your father using every possible scheme to replace him, the person at that engagement party would have been Lucien."
"Do you still remember what I said when I told Lucien to move into the villa? I told Dominic to just live together and see, as a person’s true nature only reveals itself over time. When that time comes, he could look back and see who he definitely wanted to choose. Now that my son has chosen Lucien over you, is it not because there is a problem with you?"
"Mom..." Miles managed to call out once, but seeing Mrs. Vance glare at him, he gritted his teeth: "Mrs. Vance, you cannot say that! It is obvious that Dominic was seduced by that vixen."
"Watch your filthy mouth." Mrs. Vance was just about to speak when she heard Dominic open his mouth to defend Lucien. It was rare for her to see her son shield someone to such an extent. Consequently, Mrs. Vance kept silent, simply sitting still to see what Dominic was planning to do.
Dominic’s voice was perfectly normal as he gently squeezed Lucien’s shoulder in a comforting manner, then he shifted his gaze to the boy feigning pitifulness: "Do not act as if Lucien intentionally stole something from you. Do you really think I am completely unaware of what your true nature is?"
Miles desperately wanted to argue back, but the look Dominic gave him rendered him completely immobilized. Truly, that gaze felt as though it could turn into iron nails piercing right into his body.
Miles looked at Dominic, then shifted his gaze toward Lucien, his eyes brimming with deep-seated hatred. Yet he could not utter another word. The demeanor of Dominic and his mother had made things excessively clear, they did not care, and his father and he had not been called here today to negotiate.
They had simply summoned Miles and his father to deliver a notification.
If Mr. Sinclair accepted this, he could perhaps leverage Lucien to scrape together some minor benefits in the future. If he did not accept it, then it would simply become a marriage agreement between the Vance family and Lucien, leaving the Sinclair family completely out of the picture.
But Miles was unwilling to resign himself to this outcome, so he kept glaring fixedly at Lucien. From beginning to end, Lucien merely sat in silence with his head bowed, his hands intertwined resting on his knees, his soft hair falling forward to obscure half of his face, making him look pitifully fragile. In Miles’s eyes, that entire posture was nothing but a facade, yet he had no way to expose it. A surge of sheer resentment choked his throat, turning into tears that streamed down his cheeks.
Only then did Lucien slowly look up, his eyes having welled with tears at some unknown point. He raised a hand to gently wipe the corner of his eye, his voice trembling but attempting to sound strong. "Miles, I... I never wanted to fight over anything with you. If you truly love Dominic, I can..."
Before Lucien could finish his sentence, the hand resting on his shoulder suddenly tightened. Lucien abruptly fell silent, sensing the chilling aura radiating from the man standing behind him. Dominic did not utter a single word, but that firm grip was more than enough for Lucien to understand the underlying message: "Shut up, do not speak nonsense."
Mrs. Vance let out a sigh and stood up.
"Enough, the matter is settled. Mr. Sinclair, I believe we have nothing left to discuss. The previous engagement belonged to Lucien, and now it is being returned to Lucien. As for how the Sinclair family has treated the son of my late friend, I will not pursue the matter any further out of respect for my friend resting in the afterlife. However, from this day forward, if Lucien suffers any further harm from your family, do not blame the Vance family for showing no mercy."
Mr. Sinclair’s face looked as though he were attending a funeral, but he was in no position to escalate the tension, nor was he willing to simply nod in agreement. Ultimately, he offered no reply and merely grabbed Miles’s arm, retreating toward the door. Dragged away by his father, Miles stumbled in his steps, but just before completely disappearing behind the door, he threw one last glance backward. Those bloodshot eyes locked onto no one else but Lucien, glinting with a spine-chilling hatred.
Lucien naturally saw this, staring directly back at Miles. Clearly, Lucien maintained a remarkably plain expression, yet it somehow managed to drive Miles absolutely insane with fury. After provoking the other boy to the boiling point, Lucien feigned burying his face downwards as if he were genuinely terrified.
The moment the Sinclair family’s car vanished behind the main gates, the atmosphere in the living room immediately softened. Mrs. Vance turned toward Lucien, the icy demeanor from earlier completely dissipating, replaced by a rare expression of tender care. She took his hand and gave it a gentle pat: "Do not be afraid. With me and Dominic here, they will not dare to do anything to you."
