Chapter 82: Chapter 82: Lingering Echoes

On the surface, this post by Miles Sinclair appeared to be a tearful lament about his own status, but a closer look revealed that he was subtly bringing up the matter of his mother.

Mrs. Vance’s post had implied that Miles Sinclair and his mother entered the Sinclair household as third parties climbing the social ladder. However, Miles’s phrasing clearly insinuated that his mother and Mr. Sinclair were in love first, and that Mr. Sinclair was only forced to marry Lucien’s mother due to an arranged marriage.

This post quickly sparked a fierce controversy online. Lucien glanced at the reactions of the netizens, some were criticizing the fact that Mr. Sinclair continued to see Miles’s mother even after getting married. It was obvious that Lucien’s mother had only passed away a few years ago, yet Miles Sinclair was only a year or two younger than Lucien Sinclair, so even a fool could figure out that Mr. Sinclair had committed adultery.

Many people argued that, regardless of the reason, since Mr. Sinclair was already married, his infidelity was entirely his own fault.

However, there were also those who disregarded everything else, claiming that Lucien Sinclair’s mother was clearly using her power to bully others. They speculated that it might be just like in the movies, where she relied on her family background to force the lovers to break up, shamelessly wedging herself into their relationship.

In short, the internet devolved into a chaotic shouting match filled with all sorts of comments.

Some even remarked that the current love triangle between Dominic Vance and the Sinclair brothers was like an extended version of the previous generation’s drama involving Mr. Sinclair and his two wives.

Truthfully, Lucien had somewhat anticipated that Miles Sinclair would not take this lying down. If someone with his temperament could sit still, Lucien Sinclair’s life would not have been so miserable. The young man also vaguely guessed that Miles would inevitably target Lucien Sinclair’s late mother.

After all, Miles was living such a miserable life now, and apart from targeting this deceased mother, there was truly nothing else that could provoke Lucien Sinclair.

Lucien did not deny this fact, his body was currently experiencing an uncomfortable reaction upon seeing that post. But Lucien did not care much, knowing that this was merely a lingering reflex from the original owner of the body. That child must have been furious, considering his mother had been such a wonderful woman to him.

Now that she was being used by others as a weapon of attack, getting angry was a completely normal reaction.

Lucien leaned back on the sofa, letting his thoughts wander as he stared at the post, when he heard footsteps. In this house, walking with that specific gait could only mean it was Dominic Vance. Thus, Lucien rolled his eyes, began to curl himself up, and put on a facade of hugging himself for comfort, letting his soft hair droop down to conceal his face.

The footsteps drew closer and closer, and then Lucien heard a voice ringing out from above: "What is wrong? Was taking a trip home with me that exhausting?"

Lucien did not look up, simply shaking his head slightly. His hair fluttered with every small movement, revealing his reddened earlobes. He deliberately let his trembling fingers glide across the phone screen, acting as if he were trying to hide something but was too clumsy to conceal it.

Sure enough, Dominic Vance leaned down. The man reached out and snatched the phone from Lucien’s hand with ease, as if taking a toy from a child. Lucien feigned a startle, reaching out to grab it back before retracting his hand, his eyes widening as he looked at the man.

"No... I was just..."

Dominic Vance did not even bother to let him finish his sentence. His gaze swept over the screen, his pupils darkening when he saw the post made by Miles Sinclair. His thumb swiped down, scrolling past the clamorous arguments in the comment section, past the remarks comparing their situation to the drama of Mr. Sinclair and his two wives.

Then, he turned off the screen and shoved the phone straight into his pocket.

"Do not read these things." His voice dropped noticeably lower: "The more you read, the angrier you will get."

Lucien lowered his head, twisting his hands together. He said nothing, just sat there in silence, his shoulders occasionally trembling. His posture made it seem as though he was trying his hardest to suppress his emotions, looking as if he were on the verge of tears.

Dominic Vance stared at him for a moment before letting out a very soft breath through his nose. He sat down beside Lucien, offering no hugs or coaxing kisses, merely placing a gentle hand on the young man’s shoulder.

"Rest assured, I will handle this matter for you. Stop overthinking."

Lucien nodded slightly, though he still did not look up. In his mind, he was secretly calculating how this man would deal with the situation. Would Dominic call a lawyer? How could a lawyer possibly resolve a matter like this?

Then he clicked his tongue inwardly. What need was there for a lawyer? These wealthy elites were best at using their family power to oppress others. Miles Sinclair had repeatedly trampled on Dominic Vance’s limits; the fool was probably about to get brutally dealt with by him.

Seeing that Lucien was still not in high spirits, Dominic Vance did not linger on the sofa but stepped out onto the balcony. The sliding glass door opened and then closed behind him, separating the outside noise from the quiet atmosphere inside the room. Lucien peeked at him through the transparent glass. The man was making a phone call to someone, his conversational posture looking quite decisive, likely giving instructions to his subordinates.

Lucien retracted his gaze and looked down at his fingertips. His fingers were still trembling slightly, but this time, it was not an act. Perhaps the original owner was truly heartbroken to see his mother smeared in such a way.
