The System Keeps Making Me Do Indecent Missions [BL, R18]
Chapter 99: A Calculated EncounterChapter 99: Chapter 99: A Calculated Encounter
When Lucien opened his eyes again, the clock on the nightstand had already jumped to nine in the morning.
He lounged around for a little while longer, still feeling rather sluggish; after all, there was nothing for him to do lately. He could even sleep for another stretch until the afternoon.
[Host, you should go out today.]
The voice of 000 suddenly rang out in his mind, startling Lucien. He smacked his lips, "Could you not wait until I finish a sip of water before speaking?"
[I have a premonition that something interesting is going to happen. Besides, you should accelerate the progress. If you keep hiding away in this villa forever, when will the plot ever reach its climax?]
"You sound exactly like those friends inviting someone out to watch a play." Lucien sat up and stretched, his disheveled hair falling over his forehead: "But fine, I also want to go out and catch some fresh air. Staying in here and smelling Dominic’s cedarwood scent all the time is making me sick of it. Why do your novels always love describing the male leads with a cedarwood scent? I deliberately changed the body wash, yet Dominic still gives off that exact smell."
Obviously, 000 did not bother to answer this question from Lucien, and he did not care much about it either. It was just a casual remark anyway, the cedarwood scent was actually fine to smell. Compared to a male lead with body odor, Lucien thought Dominic naturally exuding a cedarwood fragrance was perfectly acceptable.
He entered the bathroom, letting the warm water wash over his face for a moment to wake himself up, and then looked into the mirror. Reflected in the glass was a twenty-year-old boy with pale skin, clear eyes, and lips as naturally pink as if they had never been touched by cosmetics. It was a face that could easily make people want to protect him. It was also very easy to make people want to bully him.
"If you want to go hunting, you must have good bait." Lucien whispered to himself, then proceeded to pick out his clothes. A sheer cream-colored cashmere sweater, beige wide-leg fabric trousers, layered with a cardigan that fell past his knees. His hair was blow-dried but left uncombed, deliberately allowing a few strands to remain naturally fluffy. Looking in the mirror once more, he nodded in satisfaction. He looked both fragile and obedient, the perfect standard of an ideal daughter-in-law. Well, technically a failed candidate for a daughter-in-law, but whatever, that was not important.
Before stepping out the door, Lucien even made sure to send Dominic Vance a very long message: [Drive safely to work today, I just learned how to cook a rather delicious dish. Let me show off my skills this afternoon so you can have a taste!]
At the end of the line was an icon of a little kitten wagging its tail.
The phone vibrated almost instantly: [Okay.]
It seemed aloof on the surface, but this immediate reply made Lucien burst into laughter. These types of men were truly amusing; they were cold and rigid on the outside, yet their phones were probably sitting right on their desks, ready to be opened and read the moment a message arrived. He would even bet that Dominic had read through every single word of that entire block of text rather than just skimming over it.
Alright then, time to hit the road.
The shopping mall in the middle of the week was relatively empty.
The sunlight from the glass dome poured down onto the polished stone walkways, and the air carried a faint scent of coffee and perfume. Lucien leisurely pushed his cart through the organic supermarket, selecting rainbow trout, asparagus, lemons, wild honey, and a bag of roasted salted almonds. All of them were things Dominic Vance liked. He even deliberately chose the lemons with the thinnest peels and the most expensive pure honey, acting exactly as if he were picking out gifts for his lover. Well, technically Dominic was a lover, just a lover strictly within the confines of his plan.
"Oh, Young Master Lucien?"
A clear female voice, as sweet as sugar melting in water, rang out from behind. Lucien did not even need to turn around to know who it was. A supporting character like Lucien Sinclair did not have too many women involved in his life, let alone young women. For someone to suddenly block his path with such a provocative tone, he could figure out using his knees that it was definitely Hannah, the idol who had just been caught in a scandal with his fiancé.
Today she was wearing an elegant white knit dress, layered beneath a pastel longline wool coat, with her shoulder-length hair let down in loose, incredibly natural waves. On her face was a layer of transparent makeup, the flawless no-makeup makeup look that those idols often used to appear as though they had woken up inherently beautiful. She stood there, the smile on her lips as radiant as it would be on an advertising poster, her sparkling eyes looking as if they contained an entire galaxy. Standing beside her was an assistant wearing a face mask, carrying several luxury brand shopping bags in her hands.
No one could have ever suspected that behind such an angelic smile hid a belly full of daggers.
"It has been so long since I last saw you." Hannah took a few steps forward, her gait as graceful as if she were walking down a runway, her voice so gentle that it was sickeningly sweet: "Are you out by yourself? Is Dominic not accompanying you?"
"Is that so." Hannah tilted her head, her expression full of sympathy: "I thought Dominic had the day off today. Last time we went on a business trip, he told me that he was often worried about you, afraid that you would be lonely staying at home all by yourself. Dominic truly is a thoughtful person."
Her words sounded as soft as cotton, but every single letter was wrapped in a layer of broken glass. Lucien heard through it all. He told me, afraid that you would be lonely staying at home, Hannah was painting a picture in which Dominic Vance shared his innermost thoughts with her, while he himself was merely a child in need of supervision.
"Dominic has always been thoughtful." Lucien replied softly, maintaining a thin smile on his lips.
"Oh, are you buying groceries to cook?" Hannah glanced into the shopping cart, her eyes lighting up as if she had just discovered something incredibly fascinating: "Salmon, asparagus... Are you planning to make Western food? You are so talented. I am quite clumsy; I only know how to cook a few simple dishes. But Dominic said that the most important thing about cooking is the heart, so there is no need to be too elaborate."
It was Dominic said once again. Lucien secretly sneered. This girl being an idol was certainly not in vain, her technique of speaking with veiled barbs while still flawlessly maintaining a perfectly standard, radiant smile was something else.
Lucien simply offered a faint smile, having absolutely no intention of refuting her.
Right at that moment, Hannah pulled a paper bag printed with the logo of some famous coffee shop from the pile of shopping bags her assistant was carrying. Then, she lifted a takeaway cup of coffee out from inside it and removed the lid, thick steam immediately rising into the air.
"It is cold out, so I just bought some hot coffee intending to drink it to warm up. Would you like to have a sip?" Hannah smiled brightly, offering the cup of coffee toward Lucien.
"Thank you, I do not..."
Before he could even finish his sentence, Hannah had accidentally slipped her hand. The entire cup of scalding hot coffee spilled directly onto Lucien. The thick brown liquid seeped through his white cashmere sweater, spreading into large, patchy stains, and his skin instantly tingled with a burning sensation.
"Oh my gosh! Lucien! I am so sorry! I apologize!" Hannah cried out in panic, her voice pitching high with anxiety, her eyes wide as if she were on the verge of tears. She hurriedly pulled some tissues from her purse and frantically wiped at Lucien’s sweater, her mouth incessantly repeating, "I am so clumsy, did you get burned? I am truly sorry, it is because I was careless..."
The people around them began to take notice. They saw a beautiful, elegantly dressed girl frantically apologizing to a young man.
"I think that is Hannah, that idol girl, isn’t it?"
Someone recognized her and hastily took out their phone to record. Through the camera lens, Hannah was the absolute picture of a cute, clumsy, yet sincere girl, apologizing with all her heart for a minor mistake.
Lucien lowered his head, his hands clutching his soaked sweater hem, a few stray strands of his disheveled hair clinging to his temples.
"It is fine, please do not worry."
But Hannah was not done yet. While bending down to pretend to wipe Lucien’s sweater, she leaned in close to his ear, her voice dropping to a whisper so faint that only the two of them could hear it, all while the smile on her lips remained completely intact:
"You see, you do not belong in this world. You have no family backing you up, no one to protect you... You cannot even stand firm in front of others, so how could you possibly be worthy of Dominic? Why do you not just let him go and allow someone more suitable to take care of him."
Having said her piece, she straightened up and took a step back, her smile blossoming as brightly as a flower once again. Her clear voice returned, loud enough for all the bystanders to hear, "I am truly so sorry. I will buy you a new sweater as compensation. Please get home safely."
Then, she linked arms with her assistant and slowly walked away, her slender figure gradually disappearing behind the aisles of shelves.
