Chapter 62: Chapter 62: The Kobolds Strike Again

"My lord."

The moment the baying of Kobolds echoed from deep within the forest, Gu Su’s Undead Team was already aware of the threat. They swiftly assembled, and Bone Ash moved to Gu Su’s side.

"Don’t worry. I’ve already sent a White Crow to scout the enemy."

Gu Su’s tone was calm, his gaze fixed on the forest where the sounds originated. His fingertips traced the hilt of his Plague Cutter, his expression betraying no hint of panic.

Just as he spoke, Bone Forest emerged from a nearby Combat Outpost, leading Snake Fang and Suburban Wolf.

Behind the three of them, eighty-three newly converted, fully-armed Skeleton Warriors stood in neat formation. They marched in perfect unison, no longer showing the daze of their recent conversion. They were now a force ready to be deployed at a moment’s notice.

Gu Su swept his gaze over them, letting it rest on Bone Forest for a moment before speaking calmly. "You’ve come just in time. The enemy’s reinforcements are almost here."

The words had barely left his mouth when a White Crow came soaring over the battlefield, landing steadily on his shoulder. It quickly relayed everything it had discovered.

The enemy’s numbers, unit types, marching speed, and more.

A faint, barely perceptible smile touched Gu Su’s lips as he spoke slowly, "Around two hundred and fifty of them. Besides the cannon fodder that escaped earlier, they’ve clearly mixed in some Magic System Warlocks and quite a few designated Enhanced Warriors."

"Bone Forest, the next battle is up to you."

"Rest assured, my lord."

Bone Forest lowered his head slightly, his tone respectful and firm.

He paused, then looked up at Gu Su. "My lord, I’d like to ask, can we use the Flash Bomb again?"

At these words, Gu Su slowly turned his head toward Tooth Bone, who stood quietly nearby. "Tooth Bone," he asked in a level voice, "is the Flash Bomb off cooldown?"

Tooth Bone stepped forward and nodded slightly. "My lord, an hour has passed. The Flash Bomb is off cooldown and ready to be used again," he responded quickly.

"Good." Upon hearing this, Bone Forest immediately turned to Gu Su, his expression serious.

"I’ll lead my squad out now. My lord, please assign a White Crow to accompany me. When I give the signal, have Tooth Bone use the Flash Bomb immediately to blind the enemy. We’ll use that opening to launch a surprise attack."

"You’re planning to flank them? Cut off their retreat and then launch a surprise attack coordinated with the Flash Bomb?"

Gu Su grasped Bone Forest’s battle plan after a moment’s thought, a note of approval in his voice.

"Yes, my lord," Bone Forest replied directly, his tone resolute.

Bone Forest was keenly aware of his own advantages.

His Assassination Talent depended on attacking from the flank or the rear.

Moreover, they were currently outnumbered; a frontal assault was hopeless. The most reliable tactic was to flank the enemy, launch a surprise attack, and cut off their line of retreat.

It would allow him to leverage his strengths while compensating for their numerical inferiority.

"Alright. Go."

Gu Su said nothing more. With a raised hand and a soft call, he summoned a White Crow, which flew over and landed on Bone Forest’s shoulder.

He clapped a hand on Bone Forest’s pauldron, giving him some final, earnest instructions, then ordered the White Crow to stay close to Bone Forest to relay signals and scout the way.

Bone Forest nodded slightly. Without further delay, he turned and gestured to Snake Fang, Suburban Wolf, and the Skeleton Warriors. Then he led his squad out the gate.

They moved along the edge of the graveyard wall, silently circling toward the rear of the forest, and quickly vanished into the shadows at the battlefield’s edge.

After Bone Forest’s unit departed, Bone Ash and Tooth Bone immediately had their own squads cease clearing the battlefield. They quickly armed themselves with prepared Wooden Spears and formed up in an orderly line behind the Walking Dead Warriors, creating a solid defensive front.

Their deployment was already planned. Before the enemy arrived, they were to quickly fill the space before the main gate, guarding the graveyard’s entrance. This would prevent the Kobolds from breaking through the line and attacking the Graveyard Demon or Gu Su.

As for Gu Su, he remained at the very rear of the formation, still gripping the Plague Cutter that radiated a cold light. His eagle-sharp gaze was fixed on the forest’s edge.

He didn’t advance rashly. Instead, he constantly monitored the battlefield, ready to join the fight and support his Undead Team at a moment’s notice.

Time ticked by. The air grew thick, heavy with the intermingled stench of blood and Yin Qi. The atmosphere over the battlefield became increasingly oppressive, like the calm before a storm.

Sure enough, not long after Bone Forest’s unit had left, a chaotic and hurried pounding of footsteps echoed from deep within the woods. Accompanied by the increasingly frantic baying of Kobolds, a massive horde of them charged out of the forest. They were a dense, numberless mass, shrouded in an oppressive air of malevolence and bloodlust.

Leading the charge were the very same Kobolds who had been lucky enough to escape before. Their expressions were a mixture of panic and fanatical vengeance as they shrieked at their comrades, pointing the way forward.

They had brought reinforcements to exact revenge on the Undead Team that had slain their kin.

Gu Su’s eyes narrowed. He carefully scrutinized the charging Kobold horde and quickly saw that this force was completely different from the cannon fodder that had attacked before. It clearly contained several new unit types, their combat strength far surpassing that of the common Kobolds.

One type was noticeably smaller and scrawnier than the average Kobold. Black or green paint was smeared around their eyes, giving them a bizarre appearance, and they clutched crude Wooden Magic Staffs.

These were the Magic System Warlocks of the Kobold tribe. They specialized in simple Fire Magic and formed the core of the horde’s Ranged Attack force.

Another type of Kobold, in stark contrast to the skinny Warlocks, was tall and burly. Standing about five feet tall, they were a head and shoulders above the common Kobolds. Their bodies were masses of knotted muscle covered in coarse, tough fur. Blood-red paint was smeared around their mouths, making them look especially ferocious and terrifying.

They wielded massive Wolf-toothed Sticks, still caked with dried blood and chunks of flesh. The weight of the weapons made their movements somewhat sluggish; the very ground seemed to tremble beneath their tread.

Their bodies were too heavy to be carried by the balloons used for transport, so they could only charge forward on foot, their heavy strides pounding the earth.

These were the specially Enhanced Warriors among the Kobolds. Tough and incredibly strong, they excelled at frontal charges and crushing enemies in close combat. They were the core fighting force of the Kobold army and one of the most difficult unit types to deal with.

As soon as the Kobold horde burst from the trees, their eyes locked onto the graveyard gate. The sight of the Undead Team stationed there ignited a furious fire of vengeance within them.

They let out a furious roar and, without a moment’s hesitation, charged madly toward the Graveyard Demon’s gate. Their steps were chaotic, yet driven by a fanatical fearlessness.

Before they even reached the Graveyard Demon’s walls, the Kobold Warlocks in the middle of the formation halted. Raising their Wooden Magic Staffs high, they began to chant.

A moment later, a dozen or so fist-sized Fireballs, radiating intense heat, came whistling toward Gu Su and his Undead Team. They traced fiery red arcs through the air before slamming heavily into the Graveyard Demon’s walls.
