The Unveiling of Secret Queen
Chapter 2220: If You Can’t Empathize, at Least Don’t Forgive on Others’ BehalfHe walked over to Denny Harrison and asked in surprise, "Little junior sister didn’t come today? I haven’t seen her."
Not only was Nathalie Quinlan absent from the laboratory, Leony Davidson also hadn’t come.
"Oh, Nathalie took leave." Denny responded, then suddenly realized something and looked up at him. "You’re looking for her for something?"
"Yeah, kind of." Harvey Cadorette wasn’t someone who could hide what was on his mind. He had a good relationship with Denny, so he told him the whole story about the phone call from Zevaney Kingsley asking him to help relay her apology.
At first, Denny still had a smile on his face and listened patiently.
All the way until Harvey finished.
The smile on his face completely disappeared, and he looked at Harvey quite seriously. "You’re planning to help Zevaney apologize to Nathalie?"
Harvey still hadn’t realized how serious this was. "I’m just helping pass on a message."
Denny cut him off and asked him sternly, "Have you ever thought about why Zevaney doesn’t go to Nathalie to apologize herself?"
"?" Harvey really hadn’t thought that far.
Denny put the test tube in his hand back on the rack, turned on the faucet and washed his hands, then turned it off again, before speaking in a calm, forceful tone. "Because she knows very well that with Nathalie’s personality, Nathalie won’t bother with her!"
"I’ve long noticed that Nathalie is cold on the outside and warm on the inside."
"She rarely puts people in her heart, but look at the people she does keep there—like the members of Group 10, Wincent Sullivan, Agnes Baker and the others. Look at how she treats them."
Harvey suddenly remembered how Leony had made a fuss about competing with Nathalie before, and how Nathalie had risked losing her qualification for the Semiconductor research project just to give Agnes, Williansen Barness and the others a chance to prove themselves. His heart instantly understood.
"The reason Zevaney won’t go apologize herself, first, is that she can’t swallow her pride, and second, she knows very well in her heart that going to Nathalie won’t work."
"Her intention is obvious. She just wants you to go talk to Nathalie. If you go and talk to Nathalie, Nathalie might, for your face, let it go." Denny didn’t say the second half of that sentence out loud—’Of course, your face might not be worth that much either.’
Denny glanced at him, swallowed that discouraging half sentence, and continued, "Nathalie treats us as friends. Even if we can’t help her, at the very least we shouldn’t be standing on the sidelines making sarcastic comments."
"It’s easy for her to say the word ’forgive.’"
Denny knew a lot of inside information, had wide connections, and knew more than Harvey did. "What I heard is that the one from the Davidson Family almost didn’t make it during the rescue in the hospital the day before yesterday. It was Nathalie who went to Mr. Dax from the Pharmaceutical Association to pull that person back. It was extremely dangerous in the middle—basically a brush with death."
"I heard from Wincent that Nathalie has a very good relationship with that person from the Davidson Family, like family. With something like this happening, you go to Nathalie on Zevaney’s behalf to apologize, to ask her to just let it go." Denny asked him, "If it were you, could you just let it go?"
Harvey said nothing.
Denny reached out and patted his shoulder, his tone softening. "We can’t truly feel what she feels, but at the very least we shouldn’t be forgiving others on her behalf."
Harvey fell silent for a moment, took a deep breath, and beneath the shame, he had already made up his mind.
"I’m going to turn Zevaney down."
"Mm."
Denny let go of him and watched him go out to make the phone call.
He thought for a bit, then sent Nathalie a message, briefly telling the girl about Zevaney going to Harvey to plead with him for help.
As for how Nathalie planned to handle it, he didn’t ask.
He just let Nathalie know that Zevaney had already started to panic.
