The Unveiling of Secret Queen

Chapter 2290: In Their Eyes, Just an Insignificant Nobody

"What?!"

Zevaney Kingsley was taken aback, and instinctively stood up, knocking the chair aside with a grating sound.

Nathan Garland glanced at her, truly not in the mood to respond to her.

Zevaney barely managed to control her facial expression, wanting to smile but finding it difficult, and finally pulled at the corners of her mouth after a while, asking, "Teacher, didn’t we have an appointment with Mr. Martin? Why did he suddenly decide not to come? He ought to give us a reason. Didn’t Mr. Martin say why he wasn’t coming?"

Nathan Garland poured himself a glass of water, tilted his head back, and drank it all in one go, finally extinguishing the fury and unwillingness in his belly.

He heard Zevaney’s urgent questioning, as if he had heard something funny, he pulled up the corners of his mouth, revealing a sneer and self-mocking smile: "Do you know what the Hidden Family represents? I’ve told you, the Hidden Family is even stronger than you think. If they decide not to come, they’re simply not coming, should they explain? If you insist on an explanation, it’s that we are not worthy in their eyes. Do you want to hear that explanation?"

"Ultimately, if the Dean was the one who set up the appointment today, he perhaps wouldn’t have skipped it. He missed it simply because we don’t hold enough weight."

Nathan Garland took a deep breath, remaining relatively calm, aware of the difference between himself and Nicholas Fuller, he candidly faced this missed appointment, and said to Zevaney: "Don’t think too much about this, even though Mr. Martin didn’t come this time, he did say he’ll make some time to meet you. Let’s just calmly wait for his arrangements!"

"I understand, Teacher."

Zevaney tightly clasped her hands together, her expression very troubled.

Earlier she was full of confidence thinking that once she met Mr. Martin from the Hidden Family, she would be able to seize this opportunity, leaving The First Research Institute and Nathalie Quinlan far behind!

But now it was like she was struck with a thunderous blow, reality hit her hard, leaving her dazed for a considerable time.

"Teacher." Luckily, Zevaney, having gone through ups and downs lately, became steadier than before, she slightly composed herself, then gently asked Nathan Garland: "Do you know why Mr. Martin didn’t come? Did he say anything about the specific reason?"

Nathan Garland frowned, initially thinking Zevaney hadn’t understood what he said.

Looking up, he saw the strikingly beautiful woman’s clear eyes, not appearing confused, he contemplated for a moment and then calmly replied: "Well... Mr. Martin didn’t elaborate, he just mentioned an important guest unexpectedly asked to meet him. That person will be leaving here soon, so he had to go for that appointment first, and he’ll arrange to have a meal with us another day."

In fact, Martin didn’t give much explanation for missing the appointment, his words to Nathan Garland were purely out of noble politeness.

Nathan Garland well understood that in the other’s eyes, he was merely a small fry, he didn’t insist on a further explanation.

Zevaney listened to him finish, lowered her dense eyelashes, appearing to be deep in thought.

She vaguely had an idea.

But as the thought surfaced, she immediately dismissed it.

...That shouldn’t be possible.

Nathalie Quinlan was also dining at Fauna Kitchen tonight, they had even bumped into each other. If Nathalie was the one meeting Martin, it wouldn’t make sense for Martin to wait until she finished her meal to meet.

With this thought, Zevaney’s Apricot Eyes flickered, she exhaled a breath, slightly calming down.

She could accept anything now, as long as it wasn’t Nathalie Quinlan!
