The World Is Mine For The Taking

Chapter 1652 - 230 - Training the Heroes (6)

Beelzebub slowly looked over all of them, taking a moment to study their expressions and the way they were reacting to what had just happened.

Even though they had all witnessed how ridiculously fast she could move, and even though they had just seen her wound Kashiwagi without giving him much of an opportunity to properly defend himself, none of them seemed capable of immediately responding to what they had witnessed. They were still standing there almost completely frozen, as if their minds were desperately trying to catch up with what their eyes had just seen.

Then, before anyone could properly recover from the shock, Beelzebub suddenly dashed toward another one of them with terrifying speed.

"W-Woah!"

Morofuji immediately tried to prepare herself for an attack, realizing that Beelzebub wasn't giving them enough time to simply stand around and figure out what they were supposed to do next.

She quickly created flames around both of her hands and immediately threw them toward Beelzebub, who was already running straight toward them without showing even the slightest intention of slowing down.

At first, Beelzebub was still moving at a speed where they could actually follow her with their eyes, but after another brief moment, her figure began to blur before eventually disappearing from their sight altogether.

Before anyone could even figure out where she had gone, Beelzebub suddenly appeared directly behind Morofuji.

A diabolical smile had spread across her face, and unlike before, she looked like she was enjoying herself even more now. There was something genuinely disturbing about the expression she wore, especially because of the sheer amount of malice and bloodlust she was directing toward them.

The knife in her hand was already moving.

Her swing was already halfway completed by the time anyone realized where she had gone, and she had appeared directly behind Morofuji with the obvious intention of killing her before following through by beheading her with the same knife.

"Morofuji-san!"

Kaori immediately shouted as she tried to rush toward them, because she had been the first person to realize that Beelzebub wasn't simply playing around anymore.

She genuinely intended to kill Morofuji.

"H-Huh?"

Morofuji couldn't even react properly.

Everything had happened far too quickly for her to understand what was happening, let alone find enough time to defend herself against the incoming attack.

Fortunately, someone immediately moved between them and blocked the attack before the knife could reach Morofuji.

It was Morishita.

The moment Morishita realized that Beelzebub was completely serious about killing Morofuji right then and there, she immediately moved into position and blocked the attack before it could connect.

"Oh?"

Beelzebub's expression changed into one of genuine amusement when she realized that her attack had been stopped.

She looked at Morishita for a moment before glancing back toward Morofuji, almost as though she had discovered something unexpectedly interesting.

Morofuji really did seem like the wild card among them, especially considering how different she was compared to everyone else and how unpredictable her reactions could be.

"I'm surprised you managed to block that," Beelzebub said, sounding genuinely impressed despite the playful smile still sitting on her face.

"You were really trying to kill her... weren't you?" Kaori asked while staring directly at Beelzebub.

Her voice carried a strange mixture of disbelief and realization, as though she had finally understood that the situation had become much more serious than she had originally assumed.

It seemed like Kaori had sensed something wrong about Beelzebub from the beginning, and fortunately for Morofuji, Morishita had reacted quickly enough to prevent that suspicion from becoming a corpse lying on the ground.

Kashiwagi, meanwhile, could only stare at the scene with a completely perplexed expression.

"H-How could someone..."

"If you think that person is just an ordinary child, then you're wrong," I told them. "If you can't make up your mind when you're standing in front of an enemy, do you seriously think that enemy is going to stop and care about your hesitation?"

"You...!"

Kashiwagi immediately glared at me.

The hatred in his eyes was almost ridiculous in its intensity, and the way he looked at me was practically the same as someone staring at the person who had personally killed his entire family.

"Why are you doing this to us?!" he demanded, his voice filled with anger and frustration. He shouted so loud that his voice echoed throughout the training facility.

"You told me to train you," I reminded him without backing down from his glare. "If you can't handle something like this, then go back to your previous instructors and don't set foot on the battlefield when the war begins."

"Grr..."

He actually growled at me through clenched teeth.

I could practically see the anger building inside him, and for a moment, I wondered whether he was going to turn that anger toward me instead of the person who had actually attacked him.

"If you're angry, then make sure your anger is justified," I said. "Take that anger and use it properly, because standing there and complaining isn't going to accomplish anything. Fight her, and if you have to, kill her."

Kashiwagi seemed unwilling to back down from either Beelzebub or me.

Instead, he tightened his grip around his sword until his knuckles became visibly tense, then shifted his attention back toward Beelzebub with a look that showed he had finally decided to take the situation seriously.

"I swear I'm going to make you pay for this someday."

It seemed like he was trying to channel his anger into his sword rather than directing it toward me, even though that anger had been caused by what I had told him to do in the first place.

He poured the emotion into his body and then pushed it through his sword, attempting to assimilate his mana into the blade.

He still wasn't nearly as proficient at doing it as Kaori was, but he was getting close enough that I could see genuine progress in his technique.

At least he was finally learning.
