There Must Be Something Wrong With This Game!

Chapter 126 - 59: Why Did You Make Me See This Thing

The Fire Controller was by no means weak.

Most Superpower Users operated in groups of three or four. The fact that he worked alone was a testament to his strength, indicating he could complete most missions by himself.

The Fire Controller could manipulate flames hot enough to melt most metals—up to five thousand degrees. When concentrated and fired, they could be used like bullets to attack enemies within five kilometers. In critical moments, he could even devour surrounding flames to sustain himself, making him a character with incredible endurance.

Unfortunately for him, he had run into Shadow God.

As the 31st-ranked player on the entire server, Shadow God was heavily combat-oriented. He had even specialized his Demon Swordsman Profession for melee, making him nearly unbeatable in close combat.

His control over Magic Power was second to none among the players, and his combat Talent was outstanding. He could grasp an opponent’s intentions and react after just a few exchanges.

Hoisting the unconscious Fire Controller onto his shoulder, Shadow God said, "Alright, let’s go. Back to the ship, and then we’re crossing the Void."

"Wait. We still have one last step to complete!"

Little Drilling Wind pulled the Director to his feet and they both ran over to the instrument to await the final results.

They had placed the liquid into the particle analyzer before they were kidnapped, and the analysis was just about to finish.

Sensing their purpose, Shadow God set down the Fire Controller, drew his twin blades, and stood guard at the door.

’Guarding my companions so they can finish their work... This is so heroic!’

He lifted his head, feeling as if he were radiating a brilliant light. ’My character arc is finally complete.’

Watching Shadow God, who looked like he was just missing his own theme music, the Director whispered, "Are all your companions this weird?"

"Just... don’t say anything. There isn’t a single normal person on our ship," Little Drilling Wind sighed. "Director, you keep an eye on the data. I’ll send this intel to the others... Huh? It’s not sending? What’s going on?"

Little Drilling Wind had been about to send the message, but she was surprised to find her wristband had no signal.

It wasn’t just her. The signal across the entire Land of Exile had vanished, plunging it into silence.

High in the sky, a Superpower Corps vessel was docked by the Star Gate. Its high-power transmitter broadcast a communications wave to every corner of the planet, completely jamming all local signals.

Miss Computer, now freed from her restraints, entered the communications network under the watchful muzzles of seven guards and began searching for the whereabouts of Duan Fei and the others.

The moment the signal cut out, Little Fatty, who was playing on his phone, noticed it too.

After checking the error report from the outage, Little Fatty leaned back in his chair and said to Hancock, "Hancock, let me borrow your wristband."

"This is my wristband. I don’t like lending it to people," Hancock said, frowning.

"He told you to lend it to him, so just do it! Cut the crap!" the wristband, Alpha, grumbled.

Hancock scowled at his wristband, vowing to buy a better one as soon as he had the money.

’Then I’ll put this one in the most conspicuous place and let it watch me use my new wristband every single day!’

Resigned, Hancock handed the wristband to Little Fatty. He watched as Little Fatty linked the device to his phone.

In the next second, Little Fatty’s entire demeanor changed.

The playful look on his face vanished, replaced by streams of green data flowing through his eyes. He forcibly established a local network around himself and hacked into Miss Computer’s system.

Miss Computer, who had already merged with the communications network, immediately sensed the uninvited guest. A smile formed on her digitized body. "You’re a data-based Superpower User, too?"

"It’s a Professional Skill, but I suppose that’s one way of looking at it."

In a few of the previous instances, Little Fatty had unlocked his own Profession: Hacker.

This Profession’s Skills allowed him to forcibly establish a network and access nearby LANs, making it quite similar to a Superpower in some respects.

Even as they spoke, Little Fatty realized she had already bypassed the firewall he’d set up and was beginning to break through his defenses to pinpoint his location.

"How are you breaking through so fast? No, wait... you’re not breaking them at all, you’re just bypassing them!"

Realizing something was off about his opponent’s methods, Little Fatty immediately switched tactics.

He unleashed a flood of useless, redundant data from his phone, which began to pollute Miss Computer’s network.

A torrent of junk data poured out. Like a virus, the information replicated itself endlessly, completely polluting the Land of Exile’s entire database and preventing Miss Computer from easily locking onto his companions’ locations.

Seeing Little Fatty’s countermeasure, Miss Computer’s smile grew even wider.

"That’s right, I’m bypassing them. How long have you been a Superpower User? Care to chat while we fight?"

"I’m not really a fan of 3D girls..."

"Is that so? What if I’m a being made of pure data?"

"...Well now, that’s a bit more interesting!"

An invisible battle of offense and defense unfolded. Countless streams of data crisscrossed within the communications network, attacking, deceiving, and countering one another.

A war with no gunpowder, yet all the more dangerous.

Meanwhile, Duan Fei was in a dead sprint.

With the signal jammed, the enemy’s pursuit had finally caught up. Duan Fei was forced to sprint toward his ship, trying to get back and regroup with the others as soon as possible.

A dense barrage of Energy Beams rained down on him from behind, causing a stream of "-1"s to pop up over his head. It was getting dangerous, even with him using his Healing Technique to restore his health.

Spirit Detective Sai Wen, running alongside him, was also getting riddled with holes. The attacks weren’t enough to kill her, but she would occasionally dissolve into a liquid form, looking like something out of *Terminator*.

"It feels so good, running for our lives with Mom!" Sai Wen said cheerfully. "Is this what a fun outing is like?"

"Thanks for that definition of ’outing.’ Really puts things in a new perspective!"

As they spoke, a hulking Superpower User landed in front of them and said with a vicious grin, "I am—"

"Shut up!"

Duan Fei tore the bandages from his eyes. After a single glance, the Superpower User screamed and fell to his knees. His Superpower materialized as a Void Spirit, which detached from his body and walked toward Duan Fei.

Duan Fei unceremoniously swallowed the Void Spirit and heard the game system’s delightful notification: "Agility +2."

"Nice!"

The boost to his agility made Duan Fei even faster.

Pseudo-human Extract had to be diluted before consumption to prevent it from being fatal, but that also slowed its effects.

Here, however, all damage was forcibly reduced to 1—and the side effects of absorption were no exception. This allowed Duan Fei to absorb these Attributes much more efficiently.

Feeling his body grow more nimble, Duan Fei continued to surge forward.

Just as he was about to reach the ship’s docking location, a massive laser beam shot down from the sky, splitting the ground before him and leaving an unfathomably deep chasm.

Across the chasm, a handsome military officer with a cold, smile-less face stared at him. "Hello, Astarte, captain of the Long Range," the officer said coolly. "It’s a pleasure to meet you. I am Thun, Corps Commander of the Law Enforcement Corps. You are under arrest."

A massive searchlight flared to life behind Duan Fei, stretching his shadow long across the chasm.

A Superpower User suddenly stepped out and stomped on Duan Fei’s shadow.

Even though it was only his shadow, Duan Fei felt his entire body freeze, unable to move a muscle.

This technique wasn’t a form of attack, so Duan Fei’s Talent was completely useless against it.

Just as Duan Fei was about to activate his [Spiritual Armor] to break free, he glimpsed someone appear on the other side of the chasm, striding purposefully toward Thun.

In that instant, killing intent flared within Duan Fei.

’Missionary of Love... why are you making me watch this?!’
