There Must Be Something Wrong With This Game!
Chapter 133 - 66: Get Out, I’ll Take This SeatAt this moment, time seemed to stand still. The surroundings were so quiet that Hancock could even hear his own heartbeat.
He felt as if his head had been struck with a club. His ears were ringing, and all sorts of thoughts raced through his mind, making it nearly impossible to think.
Looking at the Deity sitting on the Flame Throne in the air, he asked, "If I choose to be burned, what will happen to me?"
"Your Superpower is extremely potent," the Deity said calmly. "If you choose to be burned, I will gain four hours of free time. During this period, I will construct a relatively ideal channel through the Void, significantly reducing the corruption the ship suffers while traversing it. This will greatly extend humanity’s survival time. If you’re lucky, you might last until the birth of the next ’you’ or ’me.’"
"And what will happen to me?"
"You are not like a Regenerator. A Regenerator could survive this, but you cannot. I am sorry, but there is nothing I can do to keep you alive."
"I understand."
Just as Hancock was about to give his answer, he felt a pat on his shoulder.
Turning his head, he saw Duan Fei looking at him impatiently. "Get the hell out of the way!" Duan Fei said, clearly annoyed.
"Huh?"
"I’m your captain. I’m ordering you to get the hell out of the way!"
"No, Astarte, this is my destiny. I’m already prepared to accept it. You can’t—"
Duan Fei sneered dismissively and pointed at the Chairwoman on the ground. "Is it your destiny, or a destiny that’s been forced upon you? Don’t let someone rile you up and get all hot-headed, ready to sacrifice yourself. Stop being a tool, can you?"
"I’m not."
"Yes, you are," the Shadow God stepped forward and said earnestly. "A hero’s sacrifice should come from the heart. Someone forced to sacrifice themselves isn’t a hero, they’re a scapegoat. Think about it. If you were really this important, that shameless old hag should have discussed it with you properly from the start, instead of using all sorts of disgusting, underhanded tricks to force you into this position."
"That’s right," the Missionary of Love added firmly. "That woman doesn’t believe anyone would sacrifice themselves willingly, which is why she used such despicable methods on you. She’s got your personality pegged and has had countless plans in mind from the beginning. Pushing you to be burned now is just one of them. She has no love in her heart!"
The Deity on the Flame Throne chuckled softly, then said, "I must correct you on that point. The Chairwoman does, in fact, love humanity very much. However, she doesn’t believe that individual humans can be noble and great, so she always assumes the worst of them. She is this way, and so were her ancestors."
"That’s not important." Duan Fei shook his head. "We’re just trying to say that your every thought, your every action right now, is part of that Chairwoman’s plan. If I’m not mistaken, even if we weren’t here, she would have used a pile of lofty principles to make you submit after you arrived. Because if you don’t submit willingly, your Superpower won’t even allow you to be sacrificed. Isn’t that right, Chairwoman?"
Seeing the Chairwoman about to speak, Duan Fei immediately quipped, "You’d better be honest in front of a god."
The Chairwoman’s face instantly turned ashen, and she fell silent.
At a time like this, however, silence was an admission.
Not waiting for the Chairwoman’s reply, Hancock re-examined his own heart, then said, "Even so, I still choose to burn. Tell my wife and daughter that I love—"
"Get lost!" Duan Fei said coldly.
"Astarte, I’ve had enough of you! Why do you keep telling me to get lost?!"
"Because I have a plan."
The Deity on the throne looked at Duan Fei and asked curiously, "What plan do you have? I sense that you don’t seem to be beings from this world. What are you?"
"Less yapping, you can get lost too! I’ll take this seat."
The Deity was about to say more, but Duan Fei had already impatiently had the Missionary of Love throw him into the air, where he landed in the Deity’s flames.
The flames began to burn. Fire from the Deity surged into his Eye of the Void, beginning to scorch his soul from within. Every ten seconds, Duan Fei would suffer the flames’ terrifying damage, causing him to lose one point of health!
That was a whole point of health!
Although he wasn’t a Superpower User, his Eye of the Void came from the Void.
Using this Power as a conduit, Duan Fei could also burn his own soul, becoming a beacon in the Void—the one and only light—to suppress the Void’s expansion.
Witnessing this, even the near-omniscient and omnipotent Deity couldn’t help but gasp in amazement, crying out, "Heavens, what in the world are you?"
"Captain of the Long Range, Astarte."
"Are all captains this formidable nowadays? Do you think I’m worthy of serving on your ship?"
"So you do have a sense of humor. It’s not good to be so stone-faced all the time."
Duan Fei yawned and checked the time. "You have 22 hours left. Get to work. Shadow God, I’ll sit here for a while. You take the others and follow this Deity to go scavenge around. If you find anything good, remember to bring it back."
"Got it." The Shadow God gave him a thumbs-up.
"Alright, go on. I’ll hold the fort here."
The Deity glanced at Duan Fei, its white eyes filled with gratitude.
It bowed deeply, spread its six light wings, and left with the others, eventually leaving only the Priest by Duan Fei’s side.
Duan Fei, now wreathed in silver-white flames, looked at the Priest and asked curiously, "Aren’t you going out?"
"There’s no need. I wish to stay here and quietly watch over you. Just as I once said, you were destined to sit upon the Flame Throne and let the Six-winged Angels solve this world’s problems."
Thinking back, Duan Fei recalled the Priest had indeed said something like that.
Realizing he had unwittingly fulfilled the prophecy, Duan Fei couldn’t help but chuckle. ’This game is getting more and more interesting,’ he thought.
Sitting sideways on the chair, Duan Fei looked out at the infinite Void and said to the Priest, "This is so boring. Can you find something interesting for me to do?"
"I could read our Holy Scripture to you."
"That’s even more boring."
"Then you could say a few words, and I can embellish them and write them into the Holy Scripture. With the descent of the Deity, the Mechanical Sect’s influence will increase exponentially, its gospel spreading across 4.2 million star systems. And you, the great Astarte, will achieve even greater renown, for you are the only one who dared to tell a Deity to get lost."
"Now that you put it that way, it does sound pretty cool. Alright, you have my permission."
"Thank you. Then allow me to ask a few questions. What is your opinion on our sect’s holy water cola? And do you think one should eat a hamburger or a sandwich during prayer?"
Glancing at the time, Duan Fei suddenly felt a pang of regret for agreeing to the Priest’s request.
The remaining twenty-two hours were going to be incredibly long.
