In the royal palace of the Roland Kingdom, the King sat on his throne, sighing as he looked at a map.

On the map, the southern half of the Kingdom was stained red. An unknown plague was spreading like wildfire, adding insult to injury for this already impoverished nation.

The plague had come on ferociously. Even though guards had blockaded the main roads, some people still managed to bypass the lockdown, reach the towns, and show signs of spreading the disease.

As he was wrestling with this headache, an attendant entered and said to the grim-faced King, "Your Majesty, the Pope has arrived."

"Lord Kael? Please, show him in at once."

The door opened, and the elderly Kael walked in.

He was over seventy years old. Time had hunched his back, but it had also softened his expression into one of even greater benevolence.

He was dressed in a white Vestment Robe and held a Magic Staff as tall as a man, a symbol of the Pope’s authority.

As he entered, the gloom in the room seemed to dissipate. A faint Holy Light made the King feel as if he were back in his mother’s arms, and much of the pressure on his shoulders lifted.

The King bowed sincerely to Pope Kael and said, "Lord Kael, if you needed anything, you could have just summoned me. There was no need for you to come see me in person."

There were many kingdoms on this continent, and Roland was just one of them. But there was only one Church.

The Pope, the supreme leader of the Church, controlled the interpretation and use of Divine Grace. Every Priest or Nun who wished to acquire Divine Grace had to undergo three years of Cultivation at the Church’s headquarters to master it.

Ordinary Divine Grace could heal others through touch, while powerful Divine Grace could even restore an entire city’s population to health in an instant.

Because of this special ability, every kingdom had to revere the Church, granting it an extremely high religious status.

In response to the King’s concern, Kael smiled and said kindly, "Summoning you would waste too much time. I heard the plague in southern Roland has become uncontrollable, so I came at once. What is the situation now?"

"It’s terrible," the King sighed. "Our Scouts have completely lost contact with Radiant City, the largest city in the south. Most of the southern region has become a blind spot; we have no idea what’s happening inside."

The King wanted to ask Kael to use his Divine Grace, but the words died on his lips, and he gave up the thought.

Using Divine Grace required a price. The kind of Divine Grace that could heal a city would be enough to kill a hundred Priests from exhaustion. If they took their time, those same Priests could heal many more people.

Besides, the entire south had already fallen into ruin. Healing just one city wouldn’t be much help.

Seeing the King’s dilemma, Kael patted his shoulder. The warmth of his palm set the King’s mind at ease.

"Do not worry, my child. The gods have given me a revelation, telling me what problem you face. This is no ordinary plague. The Demon King from fifty years ago has been resurrected, and this plague is its doing. Only by defeating the Demon King can the plague be stopped."

"The Demon King... But wasn’t it destroyed by you and Beist?!"

"She is the Queen of the Dead. To her, death is like sleep, and destroying her completely is extremely difficult. Now she has woken up, and with her comes the plague."

"Then what should we do? The plague in the south is too severe. My soldiers can’t even enter, and we don’t have another Hero."

"It’s alright. The gods have given me another revelation. A number of Angels will appear in human form. They will descend here, travel to the south, and destroy the resurrected Demon King. For that, I will need your help, King."

"Anything! Tomes, weapons, training grounds—whatever Roland has, I can provide it."

"Good. Then let us thank the gods for their gift, for their protection over us."

As if in response to Kael’s prayer, Holy Light flared, filling the room with a sacred aura.

The King hastily knelt, closing his eyes in pious prayer. He therefore missed the mischievous smile that flashed across Kael’s face.

Kael moved quickly.

After getting the King’s approval, a large number of Angels arrived at the palace that very afternoon and stood before him.

The King knew nothing of Martial Arts, but looking at the Angels before him, he could still feel a powerful aura washing over him.

The five Angels at the forefront were especially different from the others. One glance was enough to tell that they held high and powerful positions in the Celestial Kingdom; they were no ordinary Angels.

All five of them were handsome, but one, in particular, was so stunningly good-looking it was jaw-dropping. One could only imagine that his status among the Angels must be quite high, perhaps at the level of a Cherubim.

Averting his gaze, the King didn’t dare to look at him directly any longer. He turned to another and said, "Thank you, all five of you, for descending. Uh, what are you doing?"

An Angel with long bangs covering one eye, leaving only his right eye visible, was repeatedly pressing the empty air in front of him.

Stared at by the King, this Angel said, "Long-press space to skip the cutscene dialogue. I have to go memorize a text. I’ve got a literature exam tomorrow, and I haven’t finished studying."

"Literature? Is that a subject in the Celestial Kingdom?" the King asked with great interest. "What do you learn in the Celestial Kingdom?"

"Literature, math, foreign languages, biology, chemistry, and advanced physics. The max score is 750. If I don’t get at least a 550 on my finals this time, my mom’s gonna kill me."

The King felt he couldn’t understand a single word of it. He could only marvel at how profound the Celestial Kingdom’s scholarship was.

Although he didn’t understand, the King could still sense that the Angels were getting a bit impatient.

’Is it because they’re eager to go vanquish evil?’

Wiping a tear of emotion from the corner of his eye, the King quickly explained the current situation and then asked, "Alright, that is the state of things. Do you have any other questions?"

"Nope," said a more normal-looking Angel. "Kael already told us the relevant details. Your Majesty, may I make contact with you?"

"Um... you may."

The person walked forward, placed a hand on the King’s chest, and stared at his own left hand for a moment. Then he nodded and said, "No problem. Thank you for your cooperation. We’re heading out now. Just trouble you to prepare some food and fresh water for us."

Watching the group depart in such a hurry, the King once again shed tears of emotion.

’These Angels,’ he thought, ’are truly wonderful.’

In addition to the nearly one hundred Angels, the Church also dispatched a large contingent of Exorcist Priests to accompany the five lead Angels into the plague-ridden south.

As soon as he sat down in the spacious carriage, a bald Angel immediately shrugged off his long robe and complained, "I’m a Daoist, so why am I forced to dress up as a... Daoist?"

"You’re a Daoist? I thought you were a Monk!"

"Keep it down, don’t distract me from my textbook," the Shadow God said, annoyed.

"You keep it down, too," the Darts Guest said, looking at the player next to him. "Lone Ranger, let me ask you something. Back in Love City, did you kill me once?"

"Yeah, it was me. So what?"

"I knew it! No one else would attack someone for no reason except a murder-happy freak like you!"

"So what are you gonna do about it?"

"Get out of the carriage. Let’s duel!"

"Stop arguing."

At this single command from Jinghong, who was looking out the window, the carriage immediately fell silent.

For some reason, everyone felt that this was not a woman to be trifled with. Even the Lone Ranger just snorted coldly and stared outside, trying to maintain his cool image.

Gazing out the window, Jinghong was a little frustrated.

Things had been busy lately, so she hadn’t had time to retrieve her listening devices, which meant she couldn’t accurately track Duan Fei’s movements.

However, Jinghong believed there was a red string of fate connecting them. Even without making any arrangements, they would still end up in the same instance dungeon.

When it came to certain things, Jinghong was just that confident.

And her confidence was well-founded.
