There Must Be Something Wrong With This Game!
Chapter 204 - 70: Making the Enemy Deliver the PillowThe object Nemo took out looked just like a heart.
The golden heart was exquisitely crafted. Its interior, however, was made of wood and iron sheets, mixed with some technology they couldn’t comprehend, all integrated into its current form.
When they saw the object, every executive found it somewhat unbelievable.
It felt as if some primitive tribe had figured out controlled nuclear fusion using stones and straw. The feeling was as bizarre as it could possibly be.
"What... is this?"
"I don’t know either," Nemo said candidly. "I only know that I’m tasked with filling this thing with Energy. Don’t be fooled by its size; it requires an exceptional amount of Energy. Now, gentlemen, I believe we should get started as soon as possible."
After putting the heart away, Nemo declined the others’ invitation for lunch and watched them leave.
Nemo’s previous plan had already convinced everyone. Coupled with the endorsement from "that gentleman," his status here had become quite high.
He let out a breath and loosened his tie. ’Wearing beach shorts is so much more relaxing,’ he thought.
The pollutant indicator strip on the back of his left hand was still rising. For some reason, however, seeing it increase actually put him at ease, which made him feel that something was wrong.
Moreover, he couldn’t even remember how he had obtained this golden heart. He only recalled going somewhere and meeting someone, but his memory of what happened afterward was a blank.
Beyond that, he felt unusually comfortable, and his mind was operating with exceptional smoothness. It was a euphoric, almost transcendent feeling.
This feeling had begun to dominate his thoughts, making the pursuit of it the sole motivation for all his actions. Other feelings no longer mattered.
During this period, he spent very little time offline each day. The moment he logged on, he would follow his instincts, completing one task after another. Virtual reality was taking up more and more of his life.
The pursuit of this ultimate sense of bliss had become his sole reason for existence. Nothing else could replace it.
Even though he sensed something was wrong with him, he had already sunk too deep to pull himself out.
Besides making him feel happy, this sensation had another use: it sharpened his mind.
His consciousness was clearer than ever, his memory had become exceptionally sharp, and he could now see the connections between things at a glance. He could even perceive anomalies on the screen.
Staring at a corner of the screen, he spotted a face that had appeared for only a brief moment, but he had already captured it.
’Duan Someone... so you’re here too?’
With a faint smile, Nemo whispered, "This time, I’ll be the one who wins."
In the bar, Duan Fei was reading the agreement sent by Luminous Heavy Industry.
After surviving the first wave of the drone attack, the mercenary squad Duan Fei had hastily assembled, the Salted Fish Squad, had passed the initial screening and could now proceed with the next steps.
According to this supplementary agreement, Duan Fei discovered that the Salted Fish Squad would have to take on numerous obligations, including but not limited to: maintaining confidentiality, promptly providing good ideas, fighting with their full effort, and participating in activities organized by Luminous Heavy Industry.
As for their rights, there were very few. They would only be able to receive some of the profits after the show was broadcast, provided it met certain moral standards.
Duan Fei could guess what the higher-ups were trying to do. It was nothing more than using this opportunity to prove that Luminous Heavy Industry was top-tier, while also cashing in on a reality show.
"Capitalists really are the same everywhere... Wait, it says here we can propose suggestions for future activities, right?"
"That’s right," the Bartender said, polishing a glass. "We need to be careful with this part. If our suggestion is deemed worthless, they can hold us liable."
"...Isn’t Luminous Heavy Industry taking things a bit too far?"
"That’s why I want to overthrow them," the Bartender sighed.
Leaning back in his chair, Duan Fei began to construct the mission in his mind, searching for the solution with the highest probability of success.
This Talent of being able to see success rates was truly overpowered. It was so broken that Duan Fei was tempted to write to the developers and ask them to disable it for him.
All it took was a few mental ’swipes’ to see the success rate. He could then make targeted adjustments and plans, easily arriving at a suitable solution.
In his proposal, Duan Fei first hyped up Luminous Heavy Industry’s security measures to an absurd degree before presenting his suggestion: for the next event, how about having the mercenaries attempt to infiltrate the Glazed Tower?
After all, the Glazed Tower was Luminous Heavy Industry’s most secret and important location. Its security was said to be perfect, supposedly capable of withstanding even an attack from satellite weaponry.
Moreover, this move would also be a display of confidence to other corporations.
’If I’m willing to use my own headquarters as a gimmick, what do you have to be afraid of!’
He passed his proposal to the others for review. After reading it, the Lone Ranger asked uncertainly, "I know you want to sneak into the Glazed Tower to help Hyena recover their memories, but isn’t this a bit too far-fetched? There’s no way Luminous Heavy Industry will agree to it."
"I think so too," Yan Yuan nodded. "What’s the difference between this and setting off firecrackers in someone’s pants?"
"If you can’t come up with a good analogy, then don’t make one," Duan Fei said irritably.
’My pet really is an oddball. How did they end up with a mouth like that?’
However, Lear and the Bartender had different opinions.
Sipping a drink mixed by the Bartender, Lear rubbed his ruddy nose and said, "You guys think too highly of those suits. If you told them that killing their own father would double their stock price, they’d definitely ask if killing their mother too would triple it. This proposal could boost their stock, so they’ll almost certainly accept it."
"Exactly," the Bartender nodded. "Besides, Luminous Heavy Industry is absolutely confident in the Glazed Tower’s defenses. After all, that tower couldn’t be breached even during the corporate wars. So I think there’s a good chance this proposal will be accepted."
Hyena and Anna had no other objections. After refining the plan, Duan Fei sent it along with the signed agreement to Luminous Heavy Industry.
Before long, a reply email came back.
In the message, they politely thanked Duan Fei for his submission, stating that his idea was rather mediocre but had some reference value. They awarded him 100 morality points as a reward and told him not to mention it to anyone.
Shortly after, the schedule for the next event arrived. It was exactly what Duan Fei had proposed: infiltrating the Glazed Tower.
For this event, every mercenary squad would have to carry various weapons and attempt to infiltrate the Glazed Tower, with the goal of reaching the 300th floor.
To showcase Luminous Heavy Industry’s immense power, the mercenary squads were permitted to use all sorts of weapons and could even team up. In return, Luminous Heavy Industry would reduce some of the Glazed Tower’s defensive armaments, allowing the mercenaries to die just a little bit more slowly.
Looking at the event details, which were almost identical to his proposal, Duan Fei clicked his tongue.
’Capitalists...’
’But with this, my plan to get Hyena into the Glazed Tower is basically a success.’
A large number of mercenary squads had passed the first round. Having them all act at the same time was like multiplying his own side’s strength a thousand times over, which drastically increased their chances of success.
It was a golden opportunity handed to them on a silver platter.
Checking the event’s start date, Duan Fei began to look forward to tomorrow.
