There Must Be Something Wrong With This Game!
Chapter 223 - 89: Always Failing at Stealth9:12 PM.
Despite the raging battle outside, the metropolis remained a scene of peace and prosperity.
As one of the four corporate giants, Sinful Corporation’s security system was second to none. The external assault couldn’t possibly reach this deep inside.
Moreover, to mitigate the reputational damage from being attacked, Sinful Corporation even offered free airship tours, inviting everyone into the sky to watch the assault unfold and thereby bolster their confidence in the metropolis.
However, no one could have predicted that Duan Fei and his team had already infiltrated the city and were searching for the president of Sinful Corporation, who resided within the metropolis.
There were four conditions to end a Corporate War, and fulfilling any single one of them was enough.
One: The president of either side is defeated.
Two: Either side is completely wiped out.
Three: Either side surrenders.
Four: A Level 9 Citizen adjudicates the outcome of the war.
The objective Duan Fei had chosen to pursue was the first one.
They were now in the city center. The artillery shell had landed slightly off target, missing the city hall and instead hitting a casino nearby.
The metropolis’s casino was built in a rather retro style. A fiery red carpet covered the floor, and on the dance floor, radiant women twirled gracefully as patrons shouted their approval and generously tossed out chips.
A few of the chips even flew up to the third floor, landing at the feet of Duan Fei and his team.
The Bartender picked up a chip, glanced at the number on it, and said, "Face value of one hundred. This thing costs one hundred Morality to redeem."
Hyena frowned as he looked down below, then pointed and asked, "These people can just casually toss around one hundred Morality as a tip?"
Duan Fei coughed. "Let me correct you. One hundred is the smallest chip they have on hand. They tip at least ten thousand Morality at a time. Also, I should probably tell you that Anna’s current musculature is worth about two hundred million."
Anna was a bit slimmer than before, but the sense of Power emanating from her body was even stronger.
Unlike the mecha-muscles inside Hyena’s body, Anna’s muscles specialized in raw Power. Her new musculature allowed her to exert hundreds of tons of force in a short burst, and she could attack again after a brief cooldown.
The Bartender had also received an epic-level enhancement. His body, already bristling with weapons, was now even more dangerous. It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to call him the Gun Demon.
Hyena winced as he looked at the two beside him. ’They really are money sinks,’ he thought.
Shifting his gaze back to the floor below, he looked at the people and asked, "How in the world are they so rich?"
"Crime," Duan Fei replied. "In this place, the more immoral you are, the more ’Morality’ you have."
"That sounds so ironic. This whole moral code thing is a joke here," Hyena said bitterly.
"You’re the one who came up with this joke."
Hyena was at a loss for words, but he quickly retorted, "When I see him, I’m going to tell him this thing doesn’t work."
"Then you’d better come up with something that does work first."
Hyena was about to retort but suddenly realized Duan Fei had a point.
Although the moral code was flawed in so many ways, when he thought about it, there was currently nothing that could replace it.
People were tenuously held together by the moral code, and the major corporations were prevented from going too far because of it.
The system must have been incredibly advanced when it was created, but as its boundaries were probed, the corporations found more and more loopholes to exploit.
Just as Hyena was pondering how to solve this problem, a voice suddenly rang out. "What are you all doing?"
Duan Fei looked over in confusion and saw a burly man with a supervisor’s badge on his chest.
The man’s attire was similar to theirs—a white shirt paired with a black vest, indicating that they were all meant to be staff here.
After they exchanged a look, Duan Fei said, "We’re on guard, protecting the safety of the guests."
"We don’t need your protection here. Stop slacking off."
After yelling, the supervisor looked each of them over for a moment, then pointed at Duan Fei. "You’re not bad-looking. Come here. A few guests need you to attend to them. The rest of you, follow me. You’re needed in some of the private rooms."
Duan Fei gestured to the others, signaling them to maintain their cover and act discreetly for now. He then followed the supervisor into a private room.
The moment he entered, the door to the private room was shut. Several female prisoners, as exquisite as dolls, were watching him with playful, provocative gazes.
They were dressed in white nurse uniforms, their shapely figures on full display. It made Duan Fei feel like he could stay in this "hospital" for a year.
After devouring Duan Fei with their eyes, one of the female prisoners spoke. "The goods today are pretty good."
"The best we’ve had in a while," another female prisoner agreed with a nod.
"Come closer. Are you afraid we’re going to eat you?"
"What games can you play? Know how to play dice?"
Looking at these kind, approachable "big sisters," Duan Fei felt that this game, Abyss, was truly fantastic. Even the easter eggs were so... flavorful.
He happily sat down, shaking the dice. "I can play anything. After all, back when I couldn’t play video games, all I could play was dice. So, how should we play? Liar’s Dice or high-low?"
Seeing how excited Duan Fei was, one of the female prisoners licked her lips. "Nope, I can’t hold back anymore. Such a cute boy... I really want to perform a proper surgery on him!"
The woman’s face suddenly split open, and a dozen chainsaws began to whir. Mechanical tentacles wrapped around Duan Fei, preparing to give him a craniotomy.
The faces of the other nurses also split open, and bloody scalpels flew out from within, hurtling toward Duan Fei.
Looking at the nurses who had transformed into surgical maniacs in the blink of an eye, Duan Fei sighed. He knew this wasn’t going to end peacefully.
"Here, wait a second. Look into my eyes."
"Don’t worry, they’re so beautiful. I’ll preserve them in formalin... AHHHHHH!"
Accompanied by piercing screams, Duan Fei straightened his bow tie and walked out of the private room.
Contacting the Lone Ranger via his comms, Duan Fei asked, "How’s it going on your end?"
"Don’t bother me. I feel like this game is about to go beyond an 18+ rating."
"I knew you had a wild side. I’ll wait for you."
"Don’t wait for me. Come find me in half an hour... no, an hour. I’ve got a bellyful of rage to vent right now! FUCK..."
Accompanied by a string of creative profanity, the Lone Ranger walked out of another private room, his face a mask of utter disgust.
Duan Fei leaned against the door while Yan Yuan, perched on his shoulder, whistled. Man and bird watched the Lone Ranger with mischievous expressions.
"Well, well, Mr. Quick-Draw. You really are fast."
The Lone Ranger hung his head and mumbled, "Don’t make fun of me. And it’s not what you think."
"Whatever you say. Did you find any useful clues?"
"What kind of clues could I possibly find in a place like that?"
"You never know. What if someone else..."
Suddenly, a scream rang out.
It was followed by a loud THUD. Something that had been crushed into a ball was thrown out of a private room, landing at the feet of Duan Fei and the Lone Ranger.
Judging by its shape, the thing had once been a person.
Looking in the direction it had flown from, Duan Fei saw Anna standing there, her face flushed with anger.
"That guy actually made an indecent proposal to me!"
Seeing that a crowd was starting to gather, Duan Fei had no choice but to draw his Crowbar.
’Do my stealth attempts ever actually succeed?’ he wondered.
