There Must Be Something Wrong With This Game!
Chapter 224 - 90: Getting Hyped Up"Master, it seems your stealth attempts never seem to work," Yan Yuan said, preening its fur.
"Shut up. It’s not my fault," Duan Fei said helplessly.
’It’s definitely a problem with my Talent!’
’After all, my Talent "increases the probability of random events occurring," so I end up triggering them wherever I go, causing my stealth attempts to fail.’
’So, it’s definitely not my fault!’
The Lone Ranger watched Duan Fei with a knowing expression, feeling like he’d just learned one of his secrets.
’So he’s not good at stealth...’
’I’ll need to remember that. He has a ton of dirt on me, and I have no leverage against him.’
Anna had made a huge commotion. Just as others were about to notice, music flared up. A machine somewhere in the casino suddenly hit a jackpot and began spewing out coins. The joyous clatter of gold hitting the floor drew everyone’s attention, diverting it from their location.
In that brief one or two-second window, the mangled mess on the floor was carried away. A cleaning drone swiftly wiped the bloodstains from the ground. Even the damaged door was quickly removed and replaced, restoring everything to how it was before.
A nearly inaudible gunshot rang out. A bullet struck Anna right in the forehead, snapping her head to the side.
Her head snapped back into place. Anna faced the direction the shot had come from, a savage grin spreading across her face.
A long, narrow sniper round was clenched between her teeth. Her new titanium-alloy replacements showed almost no signs of damage, allowing her to withstand an attack from a sniper rifle.
Spitting the bullet into her hand, she charged the railing, vaulted clean over the corridor, and began gathering power in mid-air. Then, she smashed a fist through the opposite wall, revealing the sniper hidden behind it.
The sniper wore standard-issue body armor and a combat suit. A massive gas mask obscured his face, leaving only a pair of crimson eyes visible.
This was a member of the Sinful Corporation’s personal Legion: the Werewolves.
Through bio-modification and cybernetics, they had fused with their combat suits. The suits were now part of their skin, assisting with respiration and body temperature regulation.
All of their emotions had been stripped away. The sections of their brains and memories responsible for feelings were gone, leaving only superior combat skills.
Faced with Anna’s sudden charge, the soldier didn’t hesitate for a second. He drew the dagger from his waist and slashed at her neck, but her only response was a merciless chop.
The chop, as sharp as a Mantis Blade, sliced down from his head to his legs. The soldier was still frozen in his attacking stance as his body split in two, revealing a tangle of complex mechanical organs within.
Then, she kicked the corpse away. A Werewolf team member at the door, just about to investigate, had his line of sight blocked by his comrade’s body.
By the time the obstruction hit the floor, the formidable Anna was already standing before him.
After dealing with the two of them cleanly, Anna flexed her arms, stretching her muscles. She sighed contentedly, "Two hundred million worth of muscle. I’ve never been treated this well in my entire life."
A thin line shot out and stuck to the wall near her, and Duan Fei used it to land at her side.
Looking at the gory messes on the floor, Duan Fei said, "They noticed us this quickly? We split up and create chaos. Lone Ranger, the task of kidnapping the CEO is up to you."
"Don’t worry."
With a slight nod, the Lone Ranger’s body dissolved into mist and vanished, off to find the CEO’s location.
Anna just smiled. She charged forward, scooped up the two Werewolves at the entrance, and leaped directly from the third floor. In mid-air, she crushed their spines.
The three of them smashed a card table in two upon landing. A gambler at the table stared, dumbfounded, at Anna who had just fallen from the sky. He couldn’t help but ask, "Is this part of the show?"
"How about we make it your epitaph?"
After knocking the gambler aside, Anna hopped off the broken table. Cracking her wrists, she started walking toward the security guards who were rushing to the scene.
Seeing that Anna was fine, Duan Fei summoned his drone. He piloted it into the air and began acting as the operation’s overall commander.
Realizing they had been exposed, Hyena and the others dropped their cover and began their rampage.
This was part of the agreed-upon plan: if they were exposed, they would create chaos to help the Lone Ranger get to the Sinful Corporation’s CEO, thereby winning the corporate war.
The drone’s anti-electromagnetic pulse activated. This cutting-edge technology from Brother Rong’s Company temporarily disabled all electronic signals in the area, plunging the entire city into a brief state of chaos.
The entire city became an information dead zone. The piercing sounds of explosions jangled the nerves of the metropolis’s criminals, leaving them clueless as to the target of the attack.
Chaos erupted. People began to scatter in a mindless panic, and the disorderly crowd provided perfect cover for Lear and Hyena.
Just then, someone leaped high into the air and landed squarely on Duan Fei’s drone.
He looked like an ordinary Werewolf, but Duan Fei sensed something different about him.
A strong Spirit meant excellent intuition, and his intuition was telling him this man was extremely dangerous.
The drone began to accelerate and spin, trying to throw the Werewolf off.
Duan Fei, suspended beneath the drone by his Spider Suit, was secure. But the Werewolf, sensing Duan Fei’s intent, quickly drew a dagger and plunged it into the drone’s chassis, using it to hang on with one hand.
While securing his grip, the Werewolf drew his pistol and emptied clip after clip at Duan Fei from point-blank range.
But Duan Fei had already activated his Spiritual Armor. The bullets struck it, creating a series of ripples, but failed to harm him.
In response, Duan Fei grabbed Yan Yuan. The fiery-red pet instantly transformed into a Magic Pistol, and he began firing wildly at the Werewolf.
Although he didn’t have a shooting Skill, the two were so close that one of his shots managed to blast open the man’s mask, revealing a fiercely resolute face.
Tossing the empty pistol aside, the Werewolf pulled a grenade, held it right in front of Duan Fei, and crushed it in his hand.
The violent explosion blasted them both away, making Duan Fei realize just what a ruthless opponent he was facing.
This was no ordinary Werewolf. He had to be a rank above Werewolf Captain.
The drone slammed hard into a wall. Duan Fei’s Spiritual Armor, having taken the grenade blast and the impact, completely shattered. The Werewolf who had crushed the grenade was also blown to pieces, but his red-glowing eyes were still fixed on Duan Fei.
With only the upper half of his body remaining, the Werewolf decisively let go. His mangled torso fell to the ground and shattered on impact.
"What’s he doing?" Yan Yuan asked, confused.
"His body was useless, so he killed himself to resurrect. This Werewolf is definitely captain-level at least. His will to fight is just too strong."
Recalling the drone into his backpack, Duan Fei used his Spider Suit to sprint along the walls, activating two of his Skills at the same time.
[Random Summoning] and [Substitute].
’Come on, Werewolf Captain. Bring it on.’
’Let me show you what a prepared Summoner can really do!’
’I’m on a total high right now!’
The artillery fire on the twisting force field was like fireworks, the surrounding chaos like a symphony, sending Duan Fei into a state of pure euphoria.
