Chapter 101

The Plan

“Hooom!!” The roar of the massive Wild Boar Beast echoed. Just its roar alone was enough to intimidate its opponents completely. The faces of the 7 hunters, who once were experts in the Fragrant Held Forest, now turned pale.

They weren’t skilled in fighting large, strong-bodied beasts. It was nothing like chasing small creatures such as List Bees in the Fragrant Held Forest.

The difference between the beasts in the Fragrant Held Forest and the Green Forest was that most of the beasts in the Fragrant Held Forest were small but highly venomous, like the List Bees. Since their hunting area was in the Green Zone, where List Bees resided, they had never experienced fighting large beasts that used their bodies to fight, like the wild boar in front of them. Fortunately, their survival skills had been honed by the institution; otherwise, they wouldn’t have been able to dodge the initial attack.

“Its strength is incredible! You, with strength-enhancing power, must be the one to confront it.”

“No! How can I confront it as you say? While I do have strength-enhancing power, it’s not meant for clashing with the force of a Wild Boar Beast. If I go in, it’s certain death.”

“Damn it! If you won’t go in, then who will? Aagh!”

They argued back and forth, but the wild boar wasn’t patiently waiting for them to reach a consensus. Its massive body fiercely charged at them again once it regained its footing. They were lucky the boars didn’t attack all at once; otherwise, the 7 of them might not have been able to evade the attacks.

Boom!!

“You don’t need to quarrel. The first thing we need to do is fight the boar in front of us. We can’t keep dodging like this.”

“You have so many ideas; why don’t you fight it then!”

Boom!!!

“Aah!! It nearly charged at my leg just now. It’s not just its immense strength; it’s pretty fast too!”

“Then attack it back! Why are you luring it towards me!?”

“I’m not luring it to you; I’m just trying to escape.”

“Aah!! Don’t let it come near me. I’m scared! I don’t have any magic power to support the attack.” The woman’s clear voice rang out amidst the chaos. Now, it wasn’t just one boar attacking. Seeing that their comrade couldn’t take down these 7 foolish humans, the other boars slowly began to move as well, hoping to help finish off the enemies more quickly.

"Help. Help me!" The woman screamed as a wild boar chased after her. Meanwhile, the other boars charged at their enemies as well. Fortunately, 2 boars remained lying motionless in the mud, seemingly confident that even without their effort, these 7 foolish humans were destined to die!

As 4 of them were being closely pursued, the remaining 3 had yet to be targeted. Part of them wanted to flee as far as possible, perhaps even returning to the city. However, seeing the beautiful woman they admired in such a dire situation, they couldn’t bring themselves to abandon her.

"There are 3 of us. Let’s team up and attack one of the wild boars first!"

"That’s right! It’s better than doing nothing. Besides, going back now...traveling alone is dangerous!"

"Mmm! I’ll launch the first attack. You two support me. Got it?" The 3 quickly agreed on a plan before taking action.

The first was an earth magic user. He cast an earthen wall spell. However, his training was not very good, and his spellcasting duration was slow. By the time the spell took shape, the wild boar had already run past that point.

Seeing that his friend’s efforts were futile, another young man cast a water spell. His power was relatively strong, and the water magic formed into a sharp arrow. However, when he threw it, it hit a nearby bush instead, causing the wild boar to change its focus and charge at him instead!

From the earth magic that used to create walls surrounding oneself for safety and the water magic typically employed to disturb List Bees into flying into nets, their habitual usage proved ineffective in real combat. One man drew his giant sword. Normally, he didn’t have any specific duties; he only possessed strength-enhancing magic power. Thus, he chose to wield a giant sword to appear more formidable, even though his actual role was to enhance his own body. On some days, he’d use his power to shake down rare forest fruits or chop firewood and carry luggage.

Facing the enemy, he felt both fear and a desire to use his giant sword for the first time!

His legs trembled, and he braced himself to attack, but his stance was unstable. When the beast charged, it easily knocked him back along with the giant sword in his hands.

After taking down 1 arrogant human, how could the remaining 2 possibly escape? Their bodies were thrown back, along with the beautiful woman who rolled and collided with the tree, sustaining serious injuries from a single hit each.

The others were in similarly bad shape, as the wild boar’s immense strength meant that a single charge left everyone unable to stand a second time. The wild boar’s power instilled a near-deadly fear in everyone!

"Ugh! H-Help!" Even though they knew shouting for help was futile, they had no other choice. It was a human instinct for survival. After fighting and trying to survive but failing to escape imminent danger, the next natural step was to call for help.

“Hooom!!” It was as if the wild boar wanted to mock the 7 foolish humans who dared to enter its territory. One of them let out a loud sound, just like the first time it roared to intimidate its enemies. But this time, it expressed the pride of its small herd!

As the wild boar’s fist-sized hooves prepared to finish the fight and secure a permanent victory, suddenly...there was a "woosh!" sound. In the blink of an eye, the massive wild boar fell abruptly, so quickly that even its fellow boars couldn’t comprehend what had just happened.

“Kee!”

The excited and delighted sound of the little rabbit echoed. Ellie didn’t pay much attention to it. She was already drawing her bow again, aiming at another wild boar not far away.

But the wild boars weren’t foolish. Seeing their comrade struck down with an arrow through the head, they wouldn’t just stand still as easy targets. The first thing they did was charge their enemy. However, Ellie was hidden in a tall tree. Unlike the Fire-eyed Yellow Cats, these boars couldn’t climb trees to attack. Instead, they tried to knock the large tree down with their sheer strength.

The tree Ellie had chosen wasn’t fragile enough to topple down after just a few hits, but the wild boars were powerful. The intense shaking of the tree made it impossible for Ellie to aim her arrows as accurately as she had the first time.

“Tch!”

She couldn’t help but curse. The disadvantage of using long-range weapons was showing itself again. She was frustrated that she had to put away her bow and draw another weapon worth 200 gold coins. Yes...it was her trusty chain knife!

“Let’s give this a try,” the deep voice from the voice-changing mushroom came with the sound of “clanging” and sound of chains hitting, then there was a sound of swinging the chain in a circular motion to build momentum for the attack.

Unlike the Fire-eyed Yellow Cats, these boars had tough skin. Ellie knew that simply slashing left and right wouldn’t cause much damage. Even a direct hit might be absorbed since their massive, strong bodies might be able to withstand a deadly attack.

And she was right!

When she threw the small knife directly downward, the large wild boar used its hard head to deflect it, sending the knife flying. Although blood trickled from a wound on its head, such a minor injury didn’t stop its attack!

“Hooom!!” The sight of blood only drove it into a frenzy. The wild boar down there roared loudly, and the other wild boars, seeing their comrade attack again, showed their own displeasure.

Looking at the corpse of their comrade, if it weren’t for Ellie exploiting the moment when their comrade lifted its front leg to stomp the enemy to death, her arrow might not have been able to kill it.

Of course, Ellie felt the same way. It wasn’t surprising that she took the opportunity to strike when they exposed their weak points. For her, this wasn’t cowardly at all. Those who fought without seeking out their enemy’s weaknesses to increase their own chances of winning were the ones who were abnormal!

Swish!!

No matter how much they showed their displeasure, Ellie never stopped attacking. She used her chain knife again, but this time she aimed for the wild boar’s eye, another weak spot. Unfortunately, a slight movement made the boar easily evade the attack.

Ellie felt somewhat dissatisfied with her own performance. However, the chain knife attack had made the wild boars realize that approaching the tree she was in would only result in more injuries. They began to retreat slightly from her attack range, but they realized their mistake only after losing another comrade!

Woosh!!

“Roar!!” The nearby wild boar roared loudly. It had already retreated, but Ellie suddenly drew her weapon and quickly attacked its rear.

And yes! Ellie had taken out her bow again just now. When the wild boars opened up an opportunity for an attack, she had only a brief moment to aim. Even though she aimed for its belly, the arrow ended up hitting its rear.

The wild boar jumped in pain. Ellie wasted no time and fired 5 arrows in rapid succession, successfully killing it. One arrow stuck its hind leg, immobilizing it, and another pierced its belly, causing it to collapse after it couldn’t endure the agony. The final arrow to the belly proved fatal.

Now, only 4 wild boars remained. This prompted the 2 wild boars that had previously been indifferent to the fight to join their comrades, bringing Ellie back to facing 4 wild boars, just like at the start.

This time, the wild boars were no longer foolish. They ran around, with some finding a chance to charge in, causing her to have little time to aim. With the force of their attacks against the large tree, it wouldn’t be long before the tree fell, just as they hoped.

Ellie felt at a significant disadvantage being attacked like this. However, she had her own plan all along. Otherwise, she wouldn’t have deliberately come to hunt wild boars.

After observing the wild boars’ simple movements for about 1 minute, Ellie easily understood their strategy. Their plan was quite good, but unfortunately, they were merely level 0 beasts without intelligence, making their strategy easy to discern. Ellie then took out some equipment she had prepared.

"For fighting multiple beasts, the first thing to do is to restrict their movement."

When facing beasts with predictable movement patterns, and not as fast as the Fire-eyed Yellow Cats, the most helpful tactic in combat was to stop the enemy first.

And this was the equipment she had prepared for the wild boars from the start...

"A net weighted with stones!"
